I don't know, but i think it has to be said Mike was such a talented musician, more so than Freddie...but Freddie is better because while Mike is a fantastic pianist and arranger, he's one of many. On the oter hand how many great singers are there? A few, and the best is dead.
I allway thought that the music was all interpreted by an orchestra!
Unfortunately not. That fact alone almost wrecks the album for me. It certainly makes it extremely dated. One of my dreams is that someone would orchestrate the Barcelona albums for a real orchestra (it wouldn't be that difficult, there's nothing wrong with Moran's arrangements), and record it, keeping Montserrat's and Freddie's vocals.
Some of those strings do indeed sound extremely dated and "corny"-even. It would really be very interesting to have the whole album re-released with an actual orchestra backing, but then again I'm sure we don't have to express our desire for more re-releases of old material, QP must have a research team solely dedicated for that cause alone...

I too, have had the thought about getting a full orchestra to go over all the synthetic/sampled parts. I'd love to hear a real orchestra along with Mike's original piano and Freddie/Montserrat's vocals.
I wonder if this is really possible. I hope it is. Hmm...may have to ask a certain hairy man about this one. Also, a special 20th edition with a 5.1 mixed dvda would go down very well with me, too!
Adam.
That would be really great : they should also synchronise the duet's performances with the audio of the DVD-A : it wouldn't be a problem since it was lip-sync anyway...

The hairy man has very little to do with Freddie's estate. So no luck there.

Let's get two things straight here!
1. I was referring to Brian May
and 2. I was going to ask him because I wanted to see what he thought of the idea. And also how it could come about. How it can happen.

i seem to remember Brian mentioning on his soapbow how it'd be great to hear an orchestra-version of the "Barcelona" album.
am i the only one remembering this?
Here it is Zak :
(...) the fabulous Barcelona for instance .... so wonderfully sung. I just have a terrible hankering to hear it with REAL orchestra one day ... who knows ! link

This is just a thought (probably a stupid one), but I think it would be great if the Trans-Siberian Orchestra recorded some backing tracks for Barcelona. I know it's unlikely to happen, but it's just a thought...
