Ever try to perform Metallica with just a harmonica and vocalist, all by yourself? I did today. I did this freely at the Hyannis Town Green for about 1/2 hour or so, intermittenly adding in some of my own music, "Regardless", "What Do You Know" and a new one I'm working on, lets call it "Nobody Calls My Phone". I'll probably never finish it. Some youngin's around 20'ish or so knew Queen's "Sleeping On The Sidewalk", I subbed horn for harmonica. It's a great great blues rock tune from "News Of The World". "Join Together" from The Who is always fun, words entirely known or yet to be. Amazing, ever heard a song a kazillion times, sing some of it once in awhile but yet to know all the words? Yet, hear a song once in a blue moon and sing it note for note, word for word almost perfectly? Yep, been there done that! LOL.
Knowing that Metallica is notorious for bringing down Napster, if you didn't know, you know now, they were very much a part of that whole scenario such a long time ago now. "Hero Of The Day", "King Nothing", "Whiplash", "Sad But True", "Nothing Else Matters", "Enter Sandman", "Battery", "Kill 'Em All" and "Ride The Lightning", I never sang the actual lyrics, just used the titles in verse, it's fun, try it sometime. The previous is not in order at all.
"Lonesome Day" by Bruce Springsteen is always fun to sing but please, if you do, try to remember, it's the opening song from "The Rising' and that entire CD, is mostly about September 11, 2001.
I did change some of the words Brucenites!
As for set two, that lasted probably 20 minutes or less with a new friend, Scott over at the Black Spot Cafe. Total improv it was. "Goodby Lover, Hello Friend" is a spinoff of my first new venture in awhile. "Nobody Calls My Phone", tried earlier today, again, improv. We improved through "Regardless", "What Do You Know" and there is no recording of this all anywhere. Scott totally tuned into "What Do You Know" and had a great feel for how any guitar would go for that song, we'll hopefully work together on that one and a new version, sooner or later will come forth.
Hey I want to give a round of applause to my Canadian friend of whom owns link Cendrine regarding her poetry about loss of a loved one(s) and the ability to regain a sense of self from the aftermath, about acceptance, the letting go. I rarely come across such hard worked, learning from life into poetry creativity such as hers, She in my MySpace friends list and well worth the weekend poetry recitals she hosts via Yahoo Messenger. If you know anything about rhyme and poetry, you are most welcome to join, to partake and or be upon the sidelines. It's free!
