Does Brian really need to self promote the Montreal DVD in his birthday message for Freddie? link |
Sebastian 05.09.2007 00:53 |
Lest Roger or John die before he does, I can imagine Bri inscribing "don't forget to buy our next release" on the epitaph. |
Serry... 05.09.2007 01:23 |
At least he didn't put the WWRY musical logo on Freddie's jeans on the pic... |
Mr. Scully 05.09.2007 03:22 |
It's like his letters to press in which he never forgets to mention "our great We Will Rock You musical". Brian is nowadays a better manager than a musician. Sadly. |

PieterMC wrote: Does Brian really need to self promote the Montreal DVD in his birthday message for Freddie?... AND in his birthday message for John...? Well, feels a bit in bad taste to me. But then I'm not British, so I can't know if it's "acceptable" in Britain. Seems it is not... |

I think he's just very very enthusiastic about this release. |

Or, you know, that '39, Prophet's song and Long Away should have beeen hit singles, because they were really as good as Bohemian Rhapsody or Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy or Somebody to love. Doh! There is a fine line between healthy competition and bitterness and envy. Oh well, he's an old bast*** all right, but we love him, don't we ? |

Sure, OK. But there is no denying that Brian has been trying to "push" his legacy for a few years. It shows in what he has to say about his own songs, it shows in the setlists of QPR, it shows in what they played at the Hall of Fame induction etc. IMHO Freddie was by far the best songwriter and the most impressive creative force in the band, if only in the 70's. That doesn't mean I don't think Brian has an amazing talent, I think he has, I just feel uncomfortable with the mild history rewriting vibe, which involves ego but also royalties ! But then again, it's human, he's taking advantage of the fact that he's alive and that he's got a blog to express his views, fair enough. However, when he goes on and on about WWRY the musical and can't remember on which album My Fairy King was, i find it disturbing. Changing subjects : the sound clips of Face it Alone and Sandbox posted on youtube by a nice man named David Fuller, are they legit ? If so, Face it alone sounds nice. |

what they played at the hall of fame inductions and other award ceremonies...? Rock You and Champions, baiscally. i don't see why that would be history rewriting? and do you find it THAT surprising that he should play less Freddie-penned songs now that Freddie's no longer here to sing them? :/ |

Brian talks about his songs more because he knows them best. I'm sure Paul Rodgers had as much input into the songs he would sing as Brian - if not more. Remember the comment about not wanting to perform IGSM because he didn't think the song would come accross well without Freddie. One final thought: Brian and Roger have moved on, why can't everyone else? |

Paul : Hey Brian, I had this great idea for the setlist. Why don’t you play this great 12 minute long version of Hammer to Fall? Brian: Well, I wouldn’t have thought of it, but now that you mention it, perhaps it would be a good idea! Paul: Yeah, and after a show or two, we could drop two of my songs so Roger can play Say It’s Not True and you can have a longer solo. And play Lost horizon, I mean, Queen fans can get over not hearing Killer Queen or Somebody To Love, but Lost Horizon ?! Brian: Paul, I can’t say no to you, given Freddie was such a good fan, you know. Paul : And for the American tour, I had this great idea for an addition, this wonderful Queen song you haven’t played since the early eighties. Guess which: it starts with the letter D. Brian (disappointed): … Death On Two Legs? Paul: Dragon Attack! PS: Don’t get aggressive, I’m very happy with QPR, I never posted anything that said “Queen 1973-1991 RIP”, but this is an Internet forum, isn’t being unfair about trivial things the whole point? PS2: At the Hall Of Fame induction in New York, they didn’t play Champions, they played Tie Your Mother Down. |

"However, when he goes on and on about WWRY the musical and can't remember on which album My Fairy King was, i find it disturbing." I'm sure Brian doesn't listen to his music as often as we do.. For him it's just a bit of work he did 35 years ago... Do you remember a small piece of work you did 35 years ago? no? So why would Brian? |
Phill the Thrill 05.09.2007 13:51 |
I think it was less of a "shameless plug" as a description of where the picture came from, cause its somthing alot of people would ask about. Ie: Hey bri, that picture you posted on freddies birthday, where is that from, who took it? |

Fone Bone wrote: PS2: At the Hall Of Fame induction in New York, they didn’t play Champions, they played Tie Your Mother Down.my mistake. but you can't deny that since 2001, Brian and Roger have played WATC on almost every possible occasion. (were they playing more Freddie songs, people would probably complain that they'd be appropriating Freddie's legacy...) |

Sure ... if they had moved on, they could use another name, and write something new to live off, instead of depending on songs that were (for the most part) written three decades ago. > I'm sure Brian doesn't listen to his music as often as we do.. Not an excuse IMO ... he could spend a minute reading the back-cover of the album, or simply omit the MFK comment. For such an intelligent person, getting wrong something that simple is embarrassing. > For him it's just a bit of work he did 35 years ago... If so, he shouldn't be commenting on it. > Do you remember a small piece of work you did 35 years ago? no? So why would Brian? If MFK was really *that* important (as he's implied), it's much more than "a small piece of work". Still he's entitled to forget about the actual album it's in. While it's not a capital vice to ignore a detail like that, it's a nice source for the "Brian's a senile old chap" running gag. > were they playing more Freddie songs, people would probably complain that they'd be appropriating Freddie's legacy... Actually, I prefer their (B+R+J+S+D+P) 'Champions' to the original (the one by Queen). |
