Queen on SNL

Watching a special on SNL in the eighties, and, they showed a clip of Queen. I remember the show, because SNL really sucked, during that time, and, I seldom watched it, and, just happened to tune in(in a teenaged drunken stupor) and see Queen performing, "Under Pressure,"...Freddie sounded pretty badly...very hoarse, and, I can recall just having an overall feeling of sadness, over the demise of my favorite show, and, my favorite band sounding poorly. Anyone else recall the show? It was right before the time, I think, when Eddie Murphy joined the cast. |

You could be right...my memory is a bit fuzzy! And, I was remembering the Crazy Little Thing Called Love performance like it was a whole different show, when, in fact, you are correct in that they only appeared once! |

I reckon its an amazing performance. Freddie is great and Brian and John are really getting into it. It's one of the best performances of under pressure ive heard. link |

Hi, If you have the possibility to read the Peter Freestone's book, the first:"An intimate memoire by the man who knew him best", on the page 58-59 you can find the reason why Freddie lost his voice in the day of SNL. Kind regards. |

If I remember correctly, Freddie had discussed for hours during the night with a former lover of his. They yelled at each other pretty badly and that ruined Freddie's voice. Wiley |

Oh, and while I'm here... Brian cracks me up during CLTCL. He looks like a clumsy, uncoordinated scarecrow. (Although I've never seen a coordinated scarecrow, so I suppose I don't have a true basis for comparison). XD |

Yeah, I ordered a new one, about three months ago. And, I feel compelled to add that, truly, I feel very fortunate to have seen Queen on SNL...and, though Freddie appeared to be having a rough go with his voice, they still rocked the house. When you watch many of the bands who appear today on SNL, or, even back then, they seem to be lacking that honest musicianship that Queen had. |

I agree. I guess some current bands feel that they're just playing for the audience that's there, not the audience across world. When you see the boys do CLTCL, you can see Fred all over the place rocking out. No one does that now. They kinda just stand there. There are a few exceptions, but most of the time they're just there because they have to be. |
