Mika plays Killer Queen in French TV show. He speaks French well. link
Will anybody let me know what he's saying about Queen and Freddie?
Thank you :))
Jeeze....my French is really getting bad! :-(
But it sounds to me something like this:
Interviewer: Were Queen and Freddie Mercury and influence on your music?
Mika: Yes, they were a big influence on me. As a child, I was 16 years old when I heard them for the first time.
Interviewer: (too fast for me to understand, but I'm pretty sure it was something like) Playing some Queen, some Queen of course!
Mika: But that is difficult, I'm afraid
Interviewer: Yes, I know.
(Mika makes a shot at it...obviously he doesn't know the words)
Mika: It's too difficult.....
Interviewer: A ha!
(Can't really hear it over the applause)
Mika: When people make the comparison with Freddie Mercury, the pressure at that moment, it's incredible. Whenever someone says "You are just like Freddie Mercury" in my head I think "Oh No!...." but then Mika starts to kind of mumble and it's hard to understand...but I think again it's something like he's worried about not being taken seriously as himself.
Anyone who can understand spoken French better than myself, feel free to add to this...if nothing else that exercise has shown me that my French is VERY rusty and needs quite a bit of work again....but it has been 3 years since I've used it *looks ashamed*
Yeah, the shorter sentences are easier to get. I'm honestly better at reading French and understanding it than I am hearing it....especially when it's that fast. The beauty of the French Language is that it is made to flow together, so everything sounds smooth and seemless. The problem for non-native speakers is that because it does that, the French have a tendency to speak very fast, which makes it a nightmare to try and understand.
I'm pretty sure I've got the gist of what was said though....Mika saying it was too difficult for him to do that because Queen were so celebrated, and the Interviewer saying "Je sais" or "I know" when Mika protests.
Again, anyone who can better understand spoken French, feel free to correct my VERY loose translation...I would appreciate it, as I'm sure some others here would too :-)
That was a cute interview (thanks HistoryGirl for the translation). I wish we had shows like that here - almost like hanging out with an entertainer - casual, fun, not in a hurry.
Later with Jools Holland is sort of like that, isn't it? Or did I make that show up to support my theory?*
*no, I didn't.
I've been told by friends that I talk to fast. That's a lie. They just listen to slow.
