i just bought Sheer Heart Attack and was having a conversation with a friend that lead to Queen's vaudeville songs. i'm aware that Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon, Seaside Rendezvous, and Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy are of the vaudeville genre, but Bring Back That Leroy Brown doesn't seem quite like the aforementioned songs. then again, i'm no vaudeville expert. i'm just curious...
Leroy does have some music hall influences regarding the chromatic notes and the use of some instruments. It's got a piano duet between two Freddie's (though hardly ever simultaneously).
Anyway, it's a very nice way to demonstrate how Mercury could imitate styles but always putting his unique fingerprints.
I think you're absolutely right! I was just thinking of that today...Hmm...It does have that "old school" sound to it *giggles*...But I'm not entirely sure...I <3~<3~ Freddie's composing skills *sigh* and it is that type of genre...and his ability to perform it so well that makes me even more crazy about *~<3~QUEEN~<3~* ! (see the "What's Your Opinion" thread for more details). :-P

As far as I'm concerned "Bring Back That Leroy Brown" isn't vaudiville at all. If my memory serves me correct it is in the genre of ragtime. I'll get back to you guys later when I know for sure...
Steve
Yep.
Definitely ragtime.
Definitely.
I think Fred was actually trying to recreate a Scott Joplin tune he could only half-remember, like Brian did with See What A Fool I've Been.
Definitely.
