i bought this album a month ago i now know it inside out, i LOVE it!
what do you think of it? im not a huge fan of Montserrat's voice doesnt fit the 'pop' side but i like the tune :-D
re:
ahead of its time creatively.it was released in the mid 80s remember, when all us kids at the time were forced to listen to bros on radio1.you wouldnt have il divo or whomever now if it wasnt for barcelona.freddie trod over that invisible line between music genres and lead the way,as usual.
am i sounding like a queen fan or nuno bettincourt?
I really couldn't get into it when I first heard it in 1992. I think it was when The Video Collection came out and I saw what an amazing spectacle they put on (even mimed, didn't matter) that I started to love the title track. Then getting the Freddie solo collection I fell in love with the 7 real tracks on the album. The one about the piccante sauce just doesn't do it for me though. I love the one about Japanese mayonnaise though.
to sparrow.
if you do get a chance to listen to all versions of the album from the original garden lodge demo you must do.i agree about the sauce though.

so far i just have the one from the FM box set but i would love to hear all versions!
i LOVE the golden boy, how can i go on, (i sing aloud to that one!) and ensueno cuz its beautiful! freddie was made for opera if he was trained properly i think he wouldve been the best!
how can i go on? is a great tune.perhaps theres a zoner in the states that may be able to point you in the right direction for the garden lodge and onwards recordings?
I didn't like it at first, but today I am convinced that songs like Barcelona, Le Japonaise, Ensueno and The Golden Boy are great tunes! Very interesting piece of work, very ambitious record.
Freddie wud never have matched Pavoritti (speeling!!) - partly cos freddie wasn't 100stone!!!
YA the versions with freddie doing all the vocals are better songs.
It wud have made a brilliant queen album - i dont really pay too much attention to the album though cos mike moran played all the music on it and thats the highlight u know
Brian may cud have had some fun on that album
