What do you guys think?? What show or shows was or is the best sitcom that has been made? My opinion is Married With Children. The funniest and I guess most controversial sitcom that has been on non-cable t.v. |
I♥The80's 24.07.2006 14:04 |
Hell yeah it's Married With Children! That's like the GREATEST show ever! I can't even stand watching crap nowadays because none of the shows are even funny! |

I loveeeeeeeeee most comedy sitcoms. But to narrow them down... Only fools and horses Bottom The Young Ones Goodnight Sweetheart Father Ted Blackadder The Vicar of Dibley The Office Pheonix Nights Friends Fawlty Towers The New Statesman ...etc, etc, can't remember any more. But yeah, far too many to pick an all-time favourite! |

Frasier is a favourite. Series 4 of Blackadder is brilliant. I have recenly gotten into Seinfeld. Seen up to series 6 thanks to DVDs. Just starting 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' which I think I might like even more than Seinfeld. Bottom is great, but series 3 wasn't as funny as the first two. The Simpsons is fantastic. So is Family guy. Only fools and horses is well worth a watch too. Can't forget Fawlty Towers - as well as being brilliant, John Cleese was clever enough to stop making them while they were still great. Rab C Nesbit was another favourite years ago - recently returned to my screens via DVD. Although from what I can recall it went on for a few series too much. But the first few series were good. Still Game, another scottish sitcom from the same people that did chewin the fat, is also a current favourite. Its not very well known, but I think its great. Cheers, how could I forget cheers. Again, seen the first few series via DVD. I have to say though, Frasier is better. But thats not to say cheers isn't good. Used to like Red Dwarf; stopped watching around series 7 when they ran out of funny jokes. Don't watch it nowadays...maybe I will pick up the DVD's sometime. And to think I was just about to post this without mentioning Father Ted!! Again, an absolute classic, because they didn't flog a dead horse and stopped while it was still great. Must get that on DVD soon - have it on tape but would rather have the DVD's. Saw that new comedy from the guy who wrote father ted - 'the it crowd', and liked it, but I don't think it was all that much of a success, so we may never hear of it again unfortunately! I had also forgotten how brilliant the office is... but since seeing a few episodes recently I can confirm that it is...um...brilliant. The only thing I would hold against it is that some scenes are so well done they are embarassing to watch!! I feel sorry for David Brent! And finally, probably the best new sitcom of recent years; Peep Show. The writing was at its best in series one, but series two and three are still worth seeing; I think you can get all 3 series on DVD quite cheap; I would reccomend everyone gets series one - it is brilliant. And to round off....some shit Sitcoms: Keeping Up Appearences The Brittas Empire Last of the Summer Wine Gimme Gimme Gimme The Vicar of Dibley My Family Men Behaving Badly - got a lend of the DVDs off a mate, with memories of it being brilliant...but I didn't enjoy it at all! I'm sure there are others, but I don't watch them, due to them being shit. |

I hate those stupid cliche sitcoms like 'The King Of Queens' and 'Everybody Loves Raymond' with a blue collar dad, the neurotic mother in law, the clueless father in law, and the hot MILF wife. Pure and boring crap. Too bad they have to cancel the great sitcoms like 'Arrested Development' that for once dared to do something different. |

Very surprised nobody has mentioned Black Books yet. I wouldn't say it's the best, but it's got to be up there. Sooooooo much great stuff to choose from such as Father Ted, Fawlty Towers, OFAH, Seinfeld, Blackadder, IT Crowd, Dad's Army, Cheers, Frasier, Friends etc etc etc. In the end I would probably have to say Blackadder, including the vastly underrated (IMHO) first series. Undoubtably the weakest series, but still a classic. |
Munchsack 25.07.2006 07:33 |
I would also like to mention the hilarious and completely underappreciated Spin City. For the first four years it was one of the most brilliant comedies of all time. After Michael J. Fox left due to Parkinson's disease, however, and was replaced by Charlie Sheen, the quality dropped, but was still better than most stuff around at the time. Still waiting for DVD releases, though. |

There are quite a few I'vloved over the years, but my favourites are probably Blackadder, M*A*S*H (not as good as the film, but still funny!), the young ones and the first couple of series of Bottom. Another one I discovered recently which is quite good fun is Two and a half Men. |
Munchsack 25.07.2006 08:40 |
I never got M*A*S*H. I dunno why, it just never seemed funny to me. And I've never seen the Young Ones, but I keep meaning to get around to it. And Two and a Half Men is very good. |
MDNA 25.07.2006 13:14 |
I can't believe nobody mentioned one of the BEST british sitcoms of all time: Allo Allo This is abolutely brilliant. Also Blackadder gets s vote from me as well as All In The Familly and Family Ties (I love the classics) |
@ndy38 25.07.2006 14:20 |
Seinfeld is the best in my opinion, no doubt about that. And it has to be said, Friends copied some of the storylines/jokes from Seinfeld in such an obvious way, that's why i don't rate it as highly as other people do. |
Drummer imense! 25.07.2006 15:04 |
I have to say i'm one of those british sitcom people, i just don't like american sitcoms (not sure why), with the exeption of Frasier, now thats a good one. I like fawlty towers blackadder only fools and horses Dads Army Red Dwarf Hancocks half hour To name a few at least :) |
