Syd Barrett died in his home on July 7th, 2006. Diabetes related. |
Jjeroen 11.07.2006 10:19 |
Yes, I'm afraid he is, Mathias. Died at home at 60 years... Official announcement just made by management. I'm shocked and sad... Only this Friday we went to see Roger Waters and we aloud discussed how we thought Syd would be doing. No one had heard anything of him anymore for a long long time... Now, I learned that Syd already died on that very same day. Shine on you crazy diamond! May you now find the peace you never found here on earth. ---------------- Oh where are you now pussy willow that smiled on this leaf? When I was alone you promised the stone from your heart my head kissed the ground I was half the way down, treading the sand please, please, lift a hand I'm only a person whose armbands beat on his hands, hang tall won't you miss me? Wouldn't you miss me at all? The poppy birds way swing twigs coffee brands around brandish her wand with a feathery tongue my head kissed the ground I was half the way down, treading the sand please, please, please lift the hand I'm only a person with eskimo chain I tattooed my brain all the way... Won't you miss me? Wouldn't you miss me at all ------------------------- R.I.P |

Yes.. interesting that the news wasn't confirmed until the 'Pulse' DVD came out today huh? ;) Sorry to hear he's gone, but the guy apparently had a very troubled life even without the diabetes. I still can't help but find the timing rather amusing. This Pulse DVD is long-awaited and oft-delayed. |

I'm not a fan of Pink Floyd but still... R.I.P dude!!!!!!!! |
Mr.Jingles 11.07.2006 12:13 |
What a coincidence, the exact same day we were going to buy our Pink Floyd Pulse DVDs. I know this sounds cruel, but Syd was lucky he made it this far. He was a brilliant musician, but his heavy drug use destroyed his music career, and left him in a quite possibly irreversible physical and mental state. R.I.P. Syd Barrett |

I just heard about this on the radio, very sad. He was a legend. RIP Syd. |

I heard on the radio as well. My poor Syd. A lovely man, though a very fragile one. After he retired, I heard that he liked to paint, garden, and listen to classical music. I hope he is at peace now... I love you, Syd :( |

...I wonder if Syd ever met the Queenies? Does anyone know what kind of relationship PF and Queen had/have? I know Roger Waters has said that he ranks only John Lennon and Freddie above himself lyricist wise (gee, what ego!). |

I'm devestated...Sid was a great musician and composer/songwriter. His life was not as it should've been, but his art lives on in every Pink Floyd song, both the ones he worked on and the ones he didn't. |
