This is an article from a Tampa newspaper. I think they did a great job- IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However...... the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct! " crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of America being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language! "In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan.. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture. If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so! But once you are done complaining....... whining..... and griping....... about our flag....... our pledge...... our national motto........or our way of life...I highly encourage you to take advantage of one other Great American Freedom....... THE RIGHT TO LEAVE. - Now, I think the American public's real problem is Assimilation. Most all Americans are descended from immigrants somewhere, I am too, nothing wrong with that. Now, I have German heritage, as does most of Sheboygan, but what do I show for it? Beer, Bratwurst (wurst city in the world BTW), Oktober Fest and Brat Days. I do not hang a German flag on my house. My parents do not refuse to teach me English. I dont walk around claiming how the USA is terrible and I support my German pride If you look over the past 20-30 years, the Hmong and other Asian cultures have assimilated very well in the USA. Now the Hmong community is getting what they deserve, the Hmong Memorial for their service during the Secret War. In our press, we're having a 9 part story that started Sunday about their services that damn well needs to be told and they need to be honored for what they did. Now, I know this newspaper article has come so many times "Look at <insert race here> you should see how many they cram into one house and you should see what they eat they smell wierd blahblahblah"- Our teacher showed us one about Germans from 1915. Its hilarious considering Sheboygan's german population. To the current issue, there is nothing wrong with coming to the USA in search of a better life. We cant deny that immigration has contributed to the economy. I dont know about the rest of you but I like payin |

This is a hot button issue that won't go away any time soon. Immigrants - legal immigrants - should indeed learn the language. English first in this country. Sadly, it's more like English only for most of us. But when the discussion turns to 'culture', we must acknowledge that "American Culture" is a combination of cultures. There wouldn't be American culture as we know it without the influx of immigrants. I'm all for legal immigration. I love the melding of traditions, the diversity in foods, religious beliefs, clothing, etc. Illegal immigration is another story. It is, after all, illegal. IMO, there's nothing more to say about it. |

One musn't forget, however, that a big part of our American culture is liberalism. We all share the right to left, and this is a core tenet of our culture. |

I just want to point out that there are two different definitions of "gangbang." Apparently, my mind went to the one that Rip *did not* mean. |

I wish it was the other gangbang. My eldest son will be attending high school in Aurora IL (gangland #2 in IL behind Chicago) in four years ... and there is no sign of a new high school being built. When we moved to the town of NORTH Aurora in mid 2000, illegal immigration was much less of a problem. Unfortunately, the gang bangers (get your mind out of the gutter LOL) have started pushing their weight around in North Aurora in the last year or so: Two shootings ... the criminals had hispanic names A burrito shop was closed down because the hard working owners were caught selling drugs. A local bar/restaurant two miles from my did have some gang problems a few years ago, but that has seem to go away with police enforcement and a "no hats allowed" policy. |
Erin 21.06.2006 14:08 |
Aurora is home of Wayne's World....EXCELLENT! ;-) |

What is the definition of gangbang that doesn't involve a woman engaging in sexual intercourse with numerous men? Pardon my poor slang vocabulary. |
Saint Jiub 21.06.2006 18:50 |
From dictionary.com: Slang. To participate in violent gang-related activities. |

Rip Van Winkle wrote: 11 million people willing to work ... and sell drugs, gangbang, get free health care & free education ... and keep wages lowGotta love generalizations. As far as I'm concerned, selling drugs is not related exclusively to illegal immigration and neither is gang violence. Illegal immigrants can't get free health care and free education for the simple reason that they don't even have social security. Even poor American citizens can get a decent health care. ...and that whole gang bang thing. That just made me laugh my ass off. |

Illegals can get free health care. All they have to do is show up at a hospital ER. They are not allowed to refuse service to any human. As long as it is illegal to be an illegal imigrant, I am happy. Prosecution seems obvious to me. We should be able to punish criminals such as illegals just like a foreign country would punish an American for commiting an overseas crime. There is plenty of work in the gulf coast. Perhaps there could be a temporary program to exchange labor and shelter for citizenship over a period of time. If someone really wants a job, we ought to be able to help them out. America is a team affair. You should be helping us out "taxes, accountability" while you reap the benefits of our society "wages, education, healthcare, stability". "I'm proud to be an American. Where at least I know I'm free. And I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me" Mike |

Personally I don't think there's anything wrong with providing medical attention towards people who are illegal as long as they report their status as required by law. $1 billion going towards hospitals who give services to illegal immigrants is by far better than the $290 billion (and counting) that have been spent on a phony war. |
