I've read the debates throughout Queenzone and other sites over packaging the eventual boxed sets etc. and the number of discs involved.
I believe the following is the best compromise, what does everyone else think?
Release a 2-4 disc set with the best unreleased stuff by the band as this will not be too expensive and would lend itself to being brought by more casual fans/listeners
and;
through Queenonline.com release the other stuff as legal downloads that are good but would only really appeal to the dedicated fan and would only bog down any compilation that they would be released on (for evidence of "bogging down" refer to the various outtakes that appeared on the FM Boxed set or look at the John Lennon and Nirvana boxed set releases).
That sounds like a good idea, although I would prefer a larger box set with all the unreleased stuff in it, and maybe a smaller one for the more casual listeners, like you suggested. Except then some people (probably including me) would want to buy both of them just to have the complete set.
I would also like to see, quite soon, a picture of what the proposed singles box set will look like. What do you think they'll put on the front?
Or even a slight tweak to this idea...
What if you bought that small cd set and then you could do what you said, i.e. buy downloads online. Now, here's a slight alteration. The cd set you bought has a fold out area for additional discs that you burn yourself. So, they'd put up the tracks for download and also the artwork.
Now, on top of that, would be a purist's approach. I.E. you could buy the additional discs you need, all manufactured by QP, instead of made from your downloads and home printed artwork.
Peace,
Adam.
P.S. But wouldn't this be even more costly in the long run?
That's not a compromise position, unless the argument was between the people wanting a small box and the people wanting a big box.
The issue is that one side plans to release it in 3010, the other side wants it yesterday. So the "compromise" position would be to release it next June or something.
Greg should just put the whole stuff on the www for free...hahaha...everything from the past he can get his hands on, then WE will make our own choices of what we want to put on discs, and design our very personal artworks to it ourselves........then we have exactly all we want, we choose, we deside what it should look like....think that's the very best idea so far.....?
