But if it meant life or death for me, and I had to make out a list FREDDIE WOULD BE MIGHTY HIGH ON MY LIST but I have so many favorite singers, I couldnt choose!!! |

I would definatley say Freddie has one of the greatest live voices, now days there are too many mimers because they are crap live, not Freddie, he was great |
rosedewitt 29.04.2006 06:22 |
no he isn't. the greatest singer's ever are the tenors luciano pavarotti, jose carreras and placido domingo, and sopranos maria callas and montserrat caballe. |

Yes he was. |

Another thing to add: Like I said before, its impossible to have "a greatest singer"...but one thing about Fred's voice is that I never get tired of it...some artist that I listen to, after a while, their voice gets very annoying...but I swear, his voice is soooooo soothing, you never get tired of it....THATS THE TRUTH AT LEAST FROM MY POINT OF VIEW!!! |
Rick 29.04.2006 07:55 |
No, the Crazy Frog is. Pity for Freddie, cause the Crazy Frog uses condoms. |

It's all opinion. If you were asking me personally, a hesitation in my answering a straight up yes would be due to some vocal hinderance, certainly not any debate. I approve of PR singing for Queen for many reasons, but the two main ones that come to mind are: A.) The best Freddie imitation out there(possibly George Michaels) at best will be a close imitation, not possibly as good, and nowhere in the laws of the universe better. B.) considering A, they not only went for an alternate style, but chose a guy who is to me probably around #5 all time rock vocalists, which puts him way behind, but at least with Paul the new stlye makes them better than any other band ever, except of course the original Queen. |

I would have to say yes he was I'm much older then most of you im sure and I listen to all sorts of music. There was a show on the history channel about singers and Freddie Mercury came in at #1 due to the fact of his range and being a guy not many guys hit even 2.5 on range. Plus when I met him he was a great guy as well. |

No-one can say if Freddie was the greatest singer ever, not even us, as Queen fans, but here is my list (not particular order): Frank Sinatra. Dean Martin. Ian Gillan. Roger Daltrey. Freddie Mercury. Robert Plant. |

IMO, is/was extremely overrated. |

Okay...time to get some flack ! I have to say - I kind of think Paul Rodgers is up there as the top singers of rock as well. In my own opinion, I think he is more polished than Freddie was - on stage, thinking SPECIFICALLY about the vocal style's of the two. Freddie had alot more power in his voice and was a more flamboyant showman - YES - But if we're talking finesse, the I think Paul Rodgers may slightly edge out Freddie in that front. If we're talking overal musicality of the voice alone - not considering who could put off the better show - then in my view, Paul has it. I mean, in my view he know how to craft his voice slightly better than Freddie. NOT talking power, but talking control and finesse. That's my view. |
rosedewitt 29.04.2006 16:32 |
he is the best singer in rock music (for me), yeah, but in the opera the are voices which are much better than freddies of course. so i think it's impossible to chose a singer as the "best singer ever", you can't compare classical music with rock/pop music, it's too different. |

What? I thought I was the greatest singer ever! |
tnjiric 29.04.2006 16:39 |
For me he is...But Is it the matter of taste..For me freddie is the greatest singer in the world because i like his color of voice the most...and one thing that I didn't notice with any other singers..and I even listened 3 tenors and Montserrat caballe live in pula...croatia..Freddie could sing amazingy high for a man...there are other singers who could sing high..lest say singer of the group "europe" for example The final coundown...but everyone exept freddie had the same problem...they would sing nice..and when they would start to sing higher notes their voice would be thiner and squikier(sorry for mi english) and freddie's voice wold stay extremly hard, loud and powerful no matter what note was he singing..and that is AMAZING!!!for me he is FOREVER! |

Freddie definitely had a beautifull voice he had a range of four octaves, which is quite amazing. he put his heart and soul into a song, in my opinion i believe he had one of the best rock voices as i never tire of him singing. |

I think you might also be surprised to hear his versions of "All the Way", "A Cottage for Sale", and the September of My Years album. As I said before, it is only my opinion, and I wouldn't put anyone down for liking Sinatra - millions of people do. However, I don't enjoy his music and don't see him as the 'greatest' singer. I feel like if you've heard one song of his, you've heard another because all he's offering is his voice. Freddie, on the other hand, puts emotion into his singing. Again, and always - IMO. "Freddie" comes through, not just Freddie's voice. Does that make sense? I love other singers as well for the same reason. That's why I agreed with Dean Martin being good. When he sings, you can hear his smile. Louis Armstrong - same thing. Personality. Barbra Streisand - power, range, emotion. Even some Linda Ronstadt. And Elvis - there was almost always a hint of playfulness to his voice. I'm sure there are others, but their names aren't coming to me now. What makes a singer great for me is one whose singing moves me. Whether I laugh, tear up, get mad or think, doesn't matter. A beautiful voice alone doesn't do it - I want to FEEL something when I hear it. |
