Well, here goes a better mix. I picked up some sounds and made them more prominent and fiddled a bit, double tracked the solo a fraction apart to give the old multi layered solo sound from the 70s.. sounds alright to me, comments please. link
Not a bad attempt :)
But some parts are louder than other parts, you should mix that more to the same volume, now it's too obvious where you've added parts :).
Have to agree with what Dan said about the added parts being too obvious. There's one bit just before the guitar solo, where it sounds like a metal dustbin being dropped off a roof! I like the effect you used with the solo, just needed blending in a bit better, also the vocal delay in the first verse was slightly obtrusive, and could have been toned down a bit, but I'm guilty of this myself, as has been said many times on here!
Some nice ideas, and could be a good mix, with some technical tweaking. :) Thanks for sharing!
thanks for the comments. I didnt even touch the vocals. thats just how they came out from the dvd 5 channel rip..Only really thought about it when i had finished. the front channels have the most vocals, and dominated most of the instruments behind in the other channels.
the "dustbin bit" was there all along, just thought about bringing it foward a bit, the same with the guitar, it always seemed distant, so i thought why not bring it foward. one channel, then both, sounds a bit heavier i thought. but i do know what you mean about it having the feeling of a addition. Of course as we are here we are looking and knowledgable of these things. I played it for a few friends, and they didnt notice.
still better than a hollywood remix though. thanks for the comments, im atempting something with Save me. Lord Fickle, if you think you acn do something with what ive started (i like the intro bit) by all means go ahead. competition is the best motivator to do better!!
I've tried Save Me a couple of times before, and nothing really worked out very well - but best of luck with it, and I look forward to hearing what you do.
I must give props where props are due!! Incrediblly tight sounding...even when the guitar goes in and out on the verses, it sounds very original and tight!! Fine mix Darcy, FINE mix!! Give yourself three pats on the fucking back!! One for the idea of doing Hammer to Fall, one for the kick ass intro, and one for the overall quality alone of the song!! KICK ASS dude!!
