George Michael, good greef no, he can only whisper songs these days, once he might have done OK but I don't think he has the range, besides he is so far up himself that he would get lost trying to find a mirror before he went on.
Elton has great range and would do much better at the 'belt em out stuff'
However I think Paul was/is a good choice, over the past year he has made huge leaps forward and now really nails the songs.
Plus Freddie liked him ;-)
At the tribute concert George Michael was deffinately one of the best there and one of the only ones that came near to the standard the F.M set.
I dont think that anyone could really cover Freddie's songs because they were written for his voice and his style of singing - I think that is why there style changed when freddie became ill because his style of performance changed
Hmmm............................
George Michael - nah can you imagine him singing Boh Rhap? He did somebody to love OK but nothing spectacular.
Elton John did Boh Rhap at the tribute but it was nothing special, his natural singing voice is too deep.
Chris Cornell maybe? Has the range.... prob not, he's too grunge.
After that exhaustive thinking, I'm thinking that the most able person to fit into Freddie's shoes (and literally costumes) is Justin Hawkins. He's got the range, not quite the power but he definitely has the range (his range is ALOT higher than Fred's but he's lacking in power).
Justin could do Boh Rhap, Somebody To Love, We Are The Champions. He would struggle with Another One Bites The Dust admittedly but who wouldn't, that's a super powerful vocal performance. Even Fred couldn't do that good a job on stage with that song.
i think that guy oh fuck i forgot his name but he was a great singer oh and he died of AIDS in like 1991 yea well that guy would be an uncanny leader singer for Queen.
George would be the next best thing to Freddie. Me, I'd rather hear different, than close. One year ago, I would have claimed to be able to name 20 people better than Paul Rodgers. Now, I can't name one. If I had to, Rufus Wainright would be the name I would use.
What makes Brian so smart is that, while we are all looking for someone to pull off a Freddie replacement, Brian was looking, or at least hit with, someone different who could do Queen well in a new way.
Before hiring Hagar, I heard that Eddie Van Halen almost hired the lead singer from Scandal(The Warrior). I thought, how weird, how risky, but how brave. Too bad it didn't happen(not really cuz I like Sammy).
The point is, Queen not only showed the same guts, but they followed through with it. I'm sure if it was all about nostalgia or money, the tour would have happened a while back, probably with George. Instead, they were patient, not determined, and the chance came about for them. Like always, Queen did what they wanted to, took a chance, heard the bullshit I am sure, and it paid off. God bless Paul Rodgers for having the humility to front Queen, and the balls to do it his way. He failed at reproducing Queen, and succeeded to amazing extremes at creating Queen + Paul Rodgers, the greatest alteration of them I could imagine. Strike that, I had to hear it before I knew it. My imagination was too negative to see the amazing results that transpired.

hmm sounds familiar. Do you think he wrote his own songs?
If you watch the Freddie tribute, the one who really stands out and grabs the audience is Gary Cherone. His style would have been a much better fit for Queen than Van Halen.
Guys like Elton and GM would be fantastic on the slower material, but they couldn't rock like Freddie even in their prime.
The most powerful singer I've heard in recent years is Jimmy Gnecco from Ours, who in fact did the song "Someone to Die For" with Brian a couple of years ago for the Spiderman 2 soundtrack. Any doubts about his range and power, download the song "Fallen Souls" by Ours. The ending is unbelievable!

That would be cool, but i think pauls doing a pretty good job.

Well, I don't go too much for the Robert Plant option.
Though I like Led Zep studio recordings, I don't know, Robert Plant usually is not at his best at all when singing live...I have seeing him live and he was quite poor.
And it was not the only time...just think about the live aid DVD for example, he didn't want to be in it because of the poor quality of his performance.
Being Queen such a live band, I think he would not meet the standards.
