Magic Johnson, an ex-professional basketball player and now a successful businessman who develops businesses in poverty-ridden urban areas in the USA and has some 20,000 employees, was interviewed on Charlie Rose. He was diagnosed with HIV 15 years ago and is feeling fine. He said at that time the only drug that was helpful was AZT, but now there are about 29 different drugs used in different combinations for HIV/AIDS and its various strains. It made me feel sad that Freddie died 14 years ago, and the drugs to help him weren't developed yet.
Apparently Freddie might have caught the virus while he frequented gay night clubs in New York in the early 80s. That was when HIV started to spread rapidily mostly by promiscuous homosexuals in NY and San Francisco.
It's still unknown if by the time that Freddie knew that he had the virus, he was just simply carrying HIV or he already had full blown AIDS. Since the virus doesn't particularly kill people, but instead destroys the immune system allowing any kind of disease to take over, it was a bronchial pneumonia what ended up killing Freddie, mostly caused by his heavy smoking. God only know how much longer could have Freddie lived if he didn't smoke.
yea i heard Brian say in one interview like i always find myself thinking what if freddie just lasted a few more months and stayed wit his medicine they maybe they would have had the medicine for him. something like that.....
