Nummer2 14.11.2005 12:20 |
Thank you for the files! I like the song very much. A pity it never was released on an album. What was the exact recording date? Is it a queen song or does it date from earlier (e.g. Wreckage)? Who wrote it? Bye, Nummer2 |
The Visible Man 14.11.2005 12:30 |
The song is written by Tim Staffell and was recorded in 1971 during the sessions for the first queen album. |
Nummer2 14.11.2005 13:44 |
Thank you for the info so far! Of course it's a Queen song – what I meant is what roots it has. But since Tim Staffell wrote the lyrics, I assume it comes from Smile (or at least that period), am I right? |

Great recording. Sound on 2 is almost excellent. Thanks a lot Great drums also, the end of the song could´ve been the start of a classic. Anybody got more info about this recording session? |

thanks Kurgan! boy, 2005... when we thought this was from 1971 or 1972 when in facrt it's from the NOTW sessions, 1977 |

I remember paying 35 euros (or maybe it was even longer ago and it was guilders) for a CD-R with Silver Salmon to Sikke. Surprised that this still hasn't been released, as it is definitely one of the better unreleased tracks in my opinion. |

Here is the best version, number 4 with speed corrected |

^ Those four versions of Silver Salmon come from the internet bootleg 'The Vaults'. I think that all of them are fakes, excepting the last one. And, that last one, must come from a lossless source. Which I hope somebody shares at some point in the time. PS: Can you hear the Seven Seas Of Rhye intro at the end of the version posted by Ale? Maybe the song it's actually from 72'-74'. |

The first version I had it labeled as Feelings (which's just an improv before SS, yeah). The second version it's supposed to be recorded from a convention as the first version, but with a so weird reverberation and resonance that makes me think (and cringe, LOL) about the authenticity of the state of this audio tracks. The third version it's just an incomplete and saturated version of the song. The fourth and last version contains the song in it's integrity and its the commonly known best version. Cleaning that aspect, the song was (surely) recorded in rehearsal times for the NOTW tour - maybe that's why SSOR sounds at the end, given that the compilation setlist is this one: "CD1 (1971-1974): 1. Silver Salmon (unreleased demo - version #1 - as said on the tape) 2. Silver Salmon (unreleased demo - version #2 - as said on the tape) 3. Silver Salmon (unreleased demo - version #3 - unknown source) 4. Silver Salmon (unreleased demo - version #4 - remastered) 5. Polar Bear (Queen studio demo version - unknown source) 6. Keep Yourself Alive (acetate - Short Re-take - vinyl source) [...]" |

Barry Durex is right - editing an mp3 and resampling it as a new mp3 will further degrade its quality. "mp3 already lost its quality" is a weird statement. As if an audio file either has "quality", or hasn't, heh. |
Barry Durex 03.07.2016 16:17 |
Yes, I thought so. Thanks for confirming. |

How did you edit the original mp3? |
