Okay, this is my third review after The Miracle and The Works. I rate the songs 1 out of 5 and tell the high or low points of the songs. 1. We Will Rock You - Along with We Are The Champions, probably the most widely recognizable of Queen's songs. Great song. Always brings me joy to hear it during football games. Great opener. 5 stars. 2. We Are The Champions - Also used in connection with sports. Talking about overcoming obstacles to attain victory. Freddie describes it as "a winner's song". Definitely is a winner. 5 stars. 3. Sheer Heart Attack - Sounds like a punk rock song to me. Hard rocking but weak lyrics and has that annoying ringing sound in the middle. One of Roger's worst (see track 6) 2 stars. 4. All Dead, All Dead - A beautiul song dealing with a loss of someone special (although later I found out it was about Brian's cat). Still, it's a very touching ballad. 4 stars. 5. Spread Your Wings - Another moving ballad written by John. Great lyrics. John's best song. 4 stars. 6. Fight From The Inside - Possibly the weakest song by Roger. Althogh it's kinda catchy at first listen. Not much to it though. 2 stars. 7. Get Down, Make Love - Terrible song. Sounds like something written for a badly scripted porno. Freddie's worst by far. 1 star 8. Sleeping On The Sidewalk - Great up-tempo song by Brian with great guitar work as well. 3 stars. 9. Who Needs You - Has a catchy rhythm to it although the lyrics are weak. Still, Freddie tries hard as usual. 2 stars. 10. It's Late - My most sought after song when looking for live versions. Great song by Brian with great lyrics and vocals. 5 stars. 11. My Melancholy Blues - Great song to close the album. Dealing with being dumped by someone and feeling blue, this has great lyrics. "Don't expect me to behave perfectly and wear that sunny smile, my guess is I'm in for a cloudy and overcast." 5 stars. Overall I give this album 6 out of 10. Not the best but still great. |

Lyrics aside, Get Down Make Love is an incredibly creative song, musically. Revolutionary stuff, and Brian May has received little commercial recognition for the sounds he was the first to create. You're not giving them any credit for how stylistically diverse this album is. Just count all the different styles of music on this disc, as well as the three albums before it: Bring Back That Leroy Brown Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon '39 Seaside Rendezvous Good Company Bohemian Rhapsody The Millionaire Waltz Somebody To Love Sheer Heart Attack Sleeping On The Sidewalk Who Needs You My Melancholy Blues Who else has a catalogue like that? |

I'm not bashing the album. I said it was good but I personally only think it rates a 6 out of 10. That's better than other albums I'm going to rate. |

"3. Sheer Heart Attack - Sounds like a punk rock song to me. Hard rocking but weak lyrics and has that annoying ringing sound in the middle. One of Roger's worst (see track 6) 2 stars." I have to disagree. On ADATR, we had a severe shortage of hard rock. Sheer heart Attack is great, fast-paced rock, and is stunning live. |

Indeed, Sheer Heart Attack is great. But the album verion has weak drums, I barely here the snaredrum. I wish the song had as powerful drums as It's Late. But it's certainly not Roger's weakest song. I love to hear the demo with Roger on vocals, it must be great! |

Certainly in my top 3. I wonder why an official live version has never been released? We could do with a reworked version of Live Killers, with the missing tracks included! <font color=green>Rick wrote: Indeed, Sheer Heart Attack is great. I wonder why the drum sound was so inconsistent on some albums? The album version of Breakthru, is another example of weak sounding drums, which is probably why they beefed them up for the remix. |

Fine. I'll give the album a better score. Guess I hit a nerve on this one. I love this album don't get me wrong but I just don't think it's fantastic. |

6/10? Kinda harsh ain't it? I give it 8/10. I rate this album very highly, ok I do admit I don't like Get Down Make Love too much but I recognize that it's very innovative and why guys like Trent Reznor credit it with influencing them. I wish All Dead was sung by Freddie though, I do think the opening piano chords are just awesome, it's great to hear Brian's and Freddie's contrasting styles. 10/10 for the piano 8/10 for the singing. Spread Your Wings - can't believe it didn't chart top 10! It's a great song. I like the entire song through and through and Freddie's voice is very strong on it. Definitely one of John's better songs. 8/10. Though saying that I think "You and I" off A Day At The Races is very underrated/ never mentioned. Fight From The Inside - Yeah weak song, I always skip over it. Not worth rating. Sheer Heart Attack - Doesn't suit Fred's voice. If I wanna hear a fast sort of metally song by Queen I always chuck on Stone Cold Crazy. 4/10. My Melancholy Blues - I like the jazzy sort of piano but Fred's voice is hmmm well sort of weak on it. I wish he didn't sing it in Falsetto, it just doesn't strike me as sung very well. And too that thread previously where someone claimed that he miscues/ muffs a note in this song, that's absolute crap! He hits every note perfectly on pitch. 6/10. Ok song but I don't like his singing style/ sound of his voice. It's Late - I love this song it's awesome, especially the 'just' in "Is it just my sickly pride?" at about 1min 10 (yeah I love the song that much that I listen for this part lol) his voice sounds incredible at that point and that's where you think "yeah this guy has one hell of a voice". 9.5/10. |

Ok song but I don't like his singing style/ sound of his voice.Freddie had to sing it like that, and he did, and he did it class. When you listen to the song, I cannot help but get the image of Freddie and the boys on a stage in a dark and smokey jazz club playing this song at the end of an evening - probably the same idea the boys had when they recorded it. As far as I'm concerned, the song is how it should be. If Fred would have belted this one out, it would have been shit, short and long of it. But I'd hardly call what he does as falsetto on this track, not completely anyway. |

As a guitar player, I have to say I love locking into that groove. And his voice is at it's best. Nice rebellious lyrics from a rich rock star living in tax exile, as well! |

your not the sharpest tool in the shed....Sheer Heart Attack and Fight from the inside are two of rogers best queen songs ever...the lyrics arent weak at all...maybe to intellectual for you...very deep lyrics in SHA....greg brooks thought that FFTI should have been a single.....go listen to see what a fool i've been while reading your review... |

Why do you rate We Will Rock You a 10 and We Are The Champions a 9? They're both equally fantastic imo. |

actually i like champions alittle better than "rock you" but both are tens for longevity alone. |

Hey Jeff! Get your head out of your butt. Too inteligent for me - a Queen fanatic!? Absolutely not. Compare this song with I'm In Love With My Car, Heaven For Everyone, and The Loser In The End and tell me that it's not one of Roger's weakest songs. |

Who made it your job to dictate taste? I think The Loser In The End is one of Rog's better songs. Lyrically it's good, it's got some great guitar work (albeit mostly by Brian) and the drum track is fucking immense. Love it. Fight From The Inside is a nice track, but it is nothing more than that. Tenement Funster, I'm In Love With My Car, Drowse, Loser In The End, Hijack My Heart, Heaven For Everyone etc etc are far superior tracks. |

loser in the end is a horrible song. Yes, musically it has it's merits, but the song itself is horrible, never should have been released on queen2. Loser and more of that jazz are my two least favorite queen songs. |

WATC-5/10- played to death... song itself probably 8... sheer heart attack-5/10- chaotic... all dead - 8/10- lovely! spread your wings-10/10- the best song John ever wrote! fight from the inside-9/10- one of my 2-3 fav Roger songs! get down make love-9/10- I absolutely love it!!! sleeping on the sidewalk-7/10- nice, but nothing special... who needs you-5/10- I admire them being eclectic but that spoils the album... IMO... it's late-10/10- one of my fav Queen tracks of all time!!! melancoly blues-9/10- awesome stuff |
NJQueenFan 09.01.2006 22:37 |
We Will Rock You - 10/10, energizing, solo at the end is my fav guitar solo We Are The Champions - 9/10, maybe I've heard it too many times, still great though Sheer Heart Attack - 8/10, only Queen could make a song like this, this good All Dead, All Dead - 9/10, great one Spread Your Wings - 10/10, awesome Fight From the Inside - 10/10, my favorite Roger-vocal song Get Down, Make Love - 6/10, obviously inspired by Whole Lotta Love by Led Zep, but not very good, what is that crap in the middle? Sleeping on the Sidewalk - 9/10, very raw, nice, can't help but sing along to Who Needs You? - 10/10, love this one It's Late - 10/10, one of Queen's best My Melanchole Blues - 8/10, a little bluesy for my taste, amazing vocal work by Freddie though... 99/110 - 90%, 3rd best Queen album |

I like really loud, heavy, very metal, rock. But I also don´t really like SHA. It´s a bit empty. Loud just to be loud. Strange that some people think it´s Rogers best! The man who wrote Tenement Funster! |
