I just got back a few minutes ago and I'm exhausted...the show was absolutely incredible! I think the setlist was the same as New Jersey...with the addition of Slash during Can't Get Enough Of Your Love! The entire band sounded tight and the place was almost completely filled...when I was walking out, I read that there were 16,939 people attending - and the Bowl holds probably 17,000 and change, which I think was an awesome welcome back to Queen after all these years. I'm still in shock, but the highlights for me had to be Love Of My Life (the DVDs don't do nearly enough justice to how great the feeling is of actually being there!), '39 and These Are The Days Of Our Lives with the video of the band in Japan in the background. Also, the disco ball and the background of stars and clouds during Brian's guitar solo was amazing! I hope someone comes up with pictures of that. It was the best...I can't believe it's over. I really hope they come back again...I'm having such Queen withdrawl now! |

Wow! I am watching a documentary on Velvet Revolver this very minute, and then to log on and see that Slash joined the boys tonight! Fantastic! It's a bit odd that he joined in on that song, although it is a killer tune. I thought something along the lines of TYMD or WWRY, but it's exciting news regardless! |

Well I just got back a few minutes ago. What can I say, wow, I'm still floating. There is no way to put into words how amazing this show was. Brian was so awesome, he is truely a god. And Roger, he still sounds amazing as ever if not better. When Slash came out, I was freaking out, I got a couple great pictures of them together on the catwalk. Love of My Life was just amazing, the whole crowd was singing from what I heard. And when Brian did his guitar solo, it was so cool, stunning. They had the disco ball going on and it looked so rad. It was misting, almost raining, almost. Anyways, I'll be putting my pictures up soon. Email me if you have any questions! |

Oh my god, it was soooo good! I was really close but Brian didn't see my shirt I made :-(. Roger was really funny and so was Brian but the people near us were doing weed and they were having an orgy. Brian was so adorable and I keyelling his name when it was over because I really wanted to meet h im, but I didn't. I never will :-(. My sister said that when Bohemian Rhapsody was playing it started raining harder and she thinks its because Freddie was crying from heaven. The whole Slash during Can't Get Enough of Your Love was really random but a cool surprise. It was the greatest concert ever but I want to meet BRIAN AND ROGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I wanted to follow them to their hotel but my mom didn't let me, grrr. |

My wife and I took an assortment of adult relatives with us tonight. All were completely blown away by the whole thing. It was the first time we had seen Queen live in 23 years. The concert brought a flood of memories, and led me to tears on several occasions. The whole thing was masterfully done, as Brian, Roger and Paul were truly exceptional. And the inclusion of All Right Now, an incredibly powerful stadium rock-anthem, in the encore was brilliant. The falling mist during the second half of the concert was nearly unnoticeable as we were so absorbed with the concert. We really enjoyed full participation with the Radio Gaga hand-clapping, and basically sang ourselves hoarse with many other songs. Disappointments with the concert were very very few. The band somehow got out of tune at the end of Bohemian Rhapsody -- I think Spike Edney's synthesizer was mistakenly left tuned a half note higher from a prior song, which then left the guitars on a different pitch. Then it seemed that Paul wasn't sure if he should be singing with the synth or with the guitars. He settled with the synth, and Brian made a masterful switch to a slightly different key to complete the solo at the end of the song. Also, on Show Must Go On, the mixing seemed a bit out of whack, as some of the sound was mushy. Overall I have to give the evening an A++, as I enjoyed listening to my favorite artists, my favorite music, enjoyed the excitement of the entire event, and watched my family get totally blown away by an evening with Queen. My personal emotional fulfilment with the concert is really beyond words. It is always interesting to hear the comments of attendees who hadn't been all that familiar with Queen. On several occasions, during the slow crowded walk to exit the Bowl, I heard comments to the effect...."There IS a God, and his name is Brian May". And Roger, being an incredible machine on the drums, and Paul, with a great voice, drew their fair share of compliments as well. What a great evening. Our drive back to San Diego was filled with superlatives, enthusiasm, and hopes that we won't have to wait another 23 years to see them again. |

Just Amazing! The evening could not have been any better. After seeing them in England, this was by far the very best show. Paul Rogers kicked butt. His voice was so on, and he really settled in with his style and took averyone there for a GREAT Ride. Paul took charge and made it special. I loved his walking down the side of the old pool walls, maybe one foot wide, in between all the fans slapping their hands. Very Cool. Brian played beautifully last night. Maybe the misting rain held in the sound so his guitar sang a bit more, or he is just brilliant, take your pick. The visual of him playing with the glass ball spinning, and the lights shooting thru the mist was truely special, and maybe will never be seen again. Roger was smooth as silk last night. Great singing, and was having alot of fun. He told the everyone he thought the Hollywood Bowl was a stadium, not a night club. As he said this one of the waiters walked by the boxes next to the stage, and Roger reached out and asked for one of the beers the person had. Lot's of Fun. Hope all had as much fun as we did. I had the good fortune to go with 11 of my best friends and family. Thanks Again Paul, Brian, and Roger!!! |

Atomic Dog, I couldn't agree with you more on every description. This band knows how to connect with people and they are truly masters at what they do. For the young people out there, you are lucky to witness the end of an era of tru musicianship and showmanship. I believe Paul's range has gotten broader and more powerful since the European tour. He was BELTING out from high to low's on the lyrics. Brian May - I've been listening to all the early Queen stuff (70's) for 15 years now and so to have finally seen him up there shredding live was the thrill of a lifetime. He one time said in an interview that his goal with audiences is to "Leave 'em bleeding" - WELL DONE,BRIAN! It may have been my imagination, but when Slash and Brian came out together just WAILING on the guitar, sooo loud but very clear, Paul just started laughing and gave up trying to sing over them for a few stanzas - they all looked like they were having the time of thier lives, as many people have commented. A query for all of you on the topic of sitting down during a show. I paid almost two weeks salary for my tickets and was lucky enough to have ended up in the first row right at the tip of that catwalk on Brian's side. I believe in my heart that when that kind of magic happens, sitting down is NOT an option. The least I could do was give it up for them for two hours, so I stood up and rocked out for the entire show out of principle. Would any true fan show their respect by sitting down during a two hour show that may n e v e r happen again? I say no, and Brian said "we want you to get up and make noise for us", and Roger Taylor literally walked to the edge of the catwalk, pointed to the two guys next to me sitting down and said "you. up". Well, my husband ended up getting a death threat from a man behind us because he believed I should be sitting down. WRONG - it's a friggin rock concert, not the symphony! It was the night of my life, one rare opportunity of a lifetime, and being there was a gift I will always cherish. I hope they come back - I will be standing right there at that stage to say to the guys, "America loves you, thanks for coming". pics on the way that you will not even believe... |

WRONG - it's a friggin rock concert, not the symphony!Yeah, I agree with this...I was up in one of the Terrace boxes and almost everyone around me was sitting! I was up for the majority of the time, except I felt kind of bad for the guy sitting behind me who probably couldn't see...then again, he looked way too glum to be at a rock concert anyway! I don't get why you're going to pay $350 a seat or something to not even be a part of the concert at all... But anyway, rants aside, I have to add that I have a totally new appreciation for Brian's guitar solo. For awhile, I skipped over it on live DVDs (I know, I'm a bad Queen fan!) but I don't know if it was just the experience or the cool background, but I was just enraptured! There's absolutely nothing like seeing the guys you've idolized for years magnified on a huge video screen, I guess! Loved Roger introducing Brian as Spike's boyfriend also. :) And of course, pointing to Brian during These Are The Days Of Our Lives. It's just great seeing that they still love each other after all these years and everything they've been through, really. |
Atomic Dog 23.10.2005 13:08 |
Wannab! You are right on the money. People sitting for this show should be escorted out, and the seats given to someone that cares. We had the same thing with people next to us that thought the symphony was in full swing. Good for Roger to make a comment to the lumps next to you. We are soooooooooo lucky to get this chance, for it may never come again. Did you love the misty night creating a special mood. This show is one for the books. Maybe hear from you all if they come again. CHEERS |

Did they let you guys take in cameras? Hopefully they did so when they come back this spring Ill take one. |
Ga-Ga 23.10.2005 14:42 |
I was lucky. Yesterday at 10 AM, I had pair of free tickets tossed in my lap. Terrace level, five rows up from the mixer, and the "other two" people in our box no showed. How can it get any better than that? I and still trying to decide if Queen picked up an adequate singer, or if Paul Rogders landed the best backup band since Sammy Hagar. I wish they could have found somebody more vocally similar to Freddie. (Yes, yes, yes, I know that NO ONE sounds like Freddie, but no one sounds like Steve Perry either, and Journey managed to do it.) I also wonder what is up with John Deacon? Did he have a falling out? Forgive me if this is a lame question, but I have not been actively following them. Oh well, half the lineup is better than nothing at all. As far as the set-list goes, I was impressed. The first time I saw Queen, in '76, they opened with "Tie Your Mother Down", which they did last night. I would not have minded a tip of the hat to Bad Company, but I felt they overshot the mark and included too many BC songs. (Although, "All Right Now" hit the perfect note in the encore. I was glad that there was more than just a "Queen's Greatest Hits" feel to set-list. Especially the inclusion of '39, which is just about my favorite Queen song of all time. Was that a guitar rendition of "The Profits Song" that Brian May did in his solo? The two songs I wished for but didn't get were "It's Late" and "Spread to Your Wings". I did notice that they botched the sound couple of times, nothing to drastic though. What was the title of the homage to Freddie that Roger Taylor sang? ("Say It Isn't So", is that it?) Overall feel of the show, poignant at times, nostalgic, but still raucous. Ga-Ga EDIT TO REPLY TO POSTER BELOW: Yes, that was a film of Freddie on the big screen, and the spotlight was shining at *but just below* the vidio of Freddie. Very Effective. |
breakfree 23.10.2005 14:44 |
I have seen every So. Calif concert of Queen. They are such a part of my life, I wouldn't have missed this concert for the world. Brian and Roger were absolutely amazing. I always thought drum and guitar solos were pure vanity at other concerts, but those two really had something to say with there solo's. During Bohemian Rhaposidy at the very beginning there was a spotlight on the piano on stage and I leaned over to my daughter and said "OH MY GOD!!! IT'S FREDDIE!!!!! Was that a projection of some sort? Then they showed some actual film of Freddie singing the song. I was crying. Now for the not so good part. Paul Rogers does have an excellent voice and can sing most of the songs very well. But he has zero stage precence. He just kind of stood around for most of the show. And even though Roger and Brian sat or just stood during there singing, you couldn't take your eyes of them. I hope that Paul works on that some. That being said, I wouldn't have missed this concert for the world and Queen still rocks. |
shootingstar 23.10.2005 15:55 |
Hmmmm... I know this forum is meant strictly for reviews of the Hollywood Bowl show, but I feel compelled to disagree with a few of the comments. In reference to Ga Ga's post, the title of this entire project is Queen + Paul Rodgers--relatively equal billing. If any argument about the setlist is to be made, I think it shortsides Paul Rodgers a bit. Granted, there are more members of Queen when juxtaposed with Paul, but I don't think 5 songs (roughly a fifth of a given setlist [and sometimes even less])is by any stretch of the imagination too much of his material. Secondly, I disagree with breakfree's comment about Paul's stage presence. You are most likely more enamored with Roger and Brian because you are more of a Queen fan than one of Paul Rodgers. From an objective standpoint, I see Roger's and Brian's stage presence to be quite inferior to a guy who can just about get the audienced engaged for the better part of each show. This was evident at the New Jersey show I attended. That is not to say that Brian or Roger have no stage presence--quite the contrary. Still, I think his presence is better than a good number of rock musicians. If you couldn't tell, I am a big-time fan of Paul's. I generally don't like to disagree, but I at least wanted to throw my opinion out there. |
goinback 23.10.2005 16:06 |
Before the show we were sitting there, and the people behind us were talking about how they hoped people wouldn't be standing up in front of them the whole time. I still don't understand that mentality...it's a Queen concert, they're a METAL band! My mom and dad said they experienced this at a Neil Diamond concert a couple months ago too...people on his message boards didn't think people should sit either, because it's rude to sit like a lump when an artist is on stage giving their all. But anywayz, I saw them in 1980 at age 7 with my mom, and I didn't know then how long it would be until I could see them again. When "Tie Your Mother Down" (my favorite live Queen song) came on at the beginning, and I saw Brian again for the first time in 25 years, I was out of my seat dancing away in front of the people behind us (who apparently didn't know the song). My friend thought it was hilarious...I said, "I've waited 25 years to see this song live again and I'm not sitting!" Of course the show ended up being so much better than most people expected, so most of the crowd (including those behind us) ended up being on their feet most of the time anyway. It was great clincher when Brian talked about how they liked people to get excited ;) They didn't even need to stand at the Bowl, because you could still see pretty well since the seats arc up...but they still stood. I could hear a LOT of people singing with "Love Of My Life". There was one line where Brian stopped and let the audience sing themselves, but then I think he got nervous about it and came back in. I think he could have let everyone do the chorus themselves actually. My mom (who lives across country) always loved this song and I remember it at the 1980 show with her, so I called her and recorded it on her voice mail while it was playing. The crowd seemed a little quiet on some of the lesser-known numbers (like "I'm In Love With My Car"), so I was worried they weren't into it. But then I'd hear people whispering about how good it was so maybe they were just taking it all in. Of course I would have liked even more obscure songs, but I don't know if I would have had the balls to even try "Love Of My Life", "'39", and "I'm In Love With My Car" in front of a US audience of 17,000...good for Brian and Roger for doing this for us. The only parts they could improve on I think would be to throw "Under Pressure" in the middle of some of the lesser-known songs...I have no idea why in the world they would drop that for the US, since it's got to be one of their most popular ones here. And on WWRY, the background singers sang the chorus the whole time instead of just letting the crowd sing it which I thought was odd. But when I have to nitpick little things like this, you can tell it must have been pretty good :) There were some actual Paul Rodgers fans around us who went nuts on his songs (as well as the rest of the crowd), so I think the combination of his songs to replace some of the lost US popularity of a few Queen numbers ends up being a great balanced 2+ hour show for everyone. I think Queen really knew what they were doing when they decided to use him...not only for his ability to pull off the metal parts onstage (which I can't see George Michael doing), but also because of his back-catalog of songs. To me he seemed to be moving around quite a bit, but of course I was watching Brian and Roger. I was glad they got someone that didn't just stand there in one place with a stationary mic stand the whole time, which he definitely didn't do, and one of the reasons Queen stood out from other bands for me in the '70s. Everyone afterwards was in a great mood going on and on about how great the whole thing was. I am so glad I got to go to this.... |

It hit me though at the end during WWRY/WATC/GSTQ that I *could* have been witnessing the last performance of those ever at a Queen concert. On the way out, we were talking about how hopefully a full US tour would occur next year, and we realized we may have just seen the last Queen show. Judging by the response I'm sure they'll probably tour again, but you never know.... |

Oh, GOD, I envy each and every one of you who were lucky enough to go! It sounded better than the New Jersey show. A few friends of mine got to attend both and I envy them too because they saw both shows and could compare. I know NJ wasn't sold out, did the Bowl come close? It sounded like it was! And please don't think it's the last one for the US...it's a beginning! 2006 will see Q + PR multiple times and hopefully in a wide range of venues. I'm very much looking forward to it! |

Deacons 1st Choice 23.10.2005 17:23 |
I'm always hearing that the Meadowlands was not sold out.... It WAS!! Why is it i still hear otherwise? It WAS a sell out...all tickets were sold. The ones released those few days before the show were ex-guest/vip/press tickets. Whatever was left was surely snapped up the day of the show. I think it's awesome that the venues were packed full. This is a real tribute to the band we know ( or knew, depending on some of your views) and certainly from this point on we will be hearing some more from them down the road when it comes to live opportunities. I'm SOOooooo glad this did'nt turn into the same type of thing Brian's solo tour did here in 93'. Those shows were poorly advertised and your average fan had no clue he was even in town to perform...it was THAT sad! Even Brian went home a little down about it...not to mention his Band! This Q+PR combo has produced the goods and it's wonderful to sit here right now knowing in my gut that surely this won't be the last we see of them. Surely they will take some time off after Japan and in the New Year make plans for the NEXT conquest on our shores. That will be my New Years' toast....i'm betting! :) |

I have nothing but fond, fond memories of last night's show ( my first Queen show ever ). Everyone has said all of the excellent things I would say myself so I'll mention another thing that hasn't been mentioned. Hammer to Fall. Did they get completely get lost in that song. I believe Paul Rodgers came in singing the wrong part and threw everyone off and it took about a full 45 seconds for everyone to get back into the groove of the song. And poor brian and his out of tune guitar on Love of My Life! You could see it on his face that he was displeased with what the moist atmosphere had done to the tuning. He did an incredible job on compensating though until he got to a point in the song where he could discreetly tune the rouge string. But these two comments are by no means me disrespecting the incredible concert. It was easily the best concert experience that I've ever had. - Deej |

Do you think writing Brian and Roger and asking them "will you consider coming to (fill in your city here) in 2006" would get noticed...or, like other touring groups, go to the big venues in the big cities only (like Paul McCartney and U2, amongst others)? For the enjoyment of playing for old and new fans or to get the greenbacks? Nice thing they did for one concert on each coast for the fans in each half of the States to get the chance to see them. I just hope they repeat it next year! |

Well yeah...we were all incredibly lucky to have been able to experience these shows. I mean, usually the US is totally overlooked when it comes to anything related to Queen in a live sense...( the exception being Brian's solo tour). I'm thrilled that they took the chance, and came on over here not really knowing what to expect. That took balls....and Paul must have the biggest. For him to decide to front a band with Brian May and Roger Taylor in it takes balls, and i say bless him! We are indeed extremly lucky to have witnessed this....and it's a amazing feeling from a fan standpoint. I sincerely hope that in some way, the Band all came away from the US feeling numb with awe and are anxious to return in the future. I was feeling that from them in NJ...how could you not?...and from what i've heard it was the same in LA. Rock on!!! With that said, i do feel that when they DO come back they may opt to do smaller venues. Not that this is bad...it's just that i think for the fans, seeing them in a intimate setting would be even more incredible. Perhaps the Band may feel this way too? I know some of the members commented on how they would have liked to have had the audience closer to them in a sense. A theatre-style venue would be ideal. I'm sure we can all recall our local favourite locations where Q+PR could easily pull off a gig. Here in Boston, it's the Orpheum Theatre. It's the perfect spot! In Ny, we have the Beacon. I'm looking forward to whatever surprises we may see in the New Year! |
Whatinthewhatthe? 23.10.2005 21:11 |
Then what about ticket prices fluctuating between big halls and smaller venues? Probably wouldn't affect the attendance, hopefully. Say they begin touring in March and start in the east and gradually work their way west, even north to Canada which would make some friends very happy! I am wondering if they will be selective in the cities, if they remember where they toured (as Queen) and return to those venues. That would be nice! And you can say Paul passed the test and has been accepted, which is great, since some fans were skeptical in the beginning. |

I was right at the stage and it was absolutely mind freaking blowing!!! I screamed and sang so loud that I lost my voice half way through the show. I got some great pics of the show which I will post shortly. I managed to sneak backstage by bribing a security guy for a 20. I was waiting around in the first room (with the blue lights) and ended up just outside of Roger's dressing room when his security guy came up and asked me for my pass.(doh!) I could actually hear Roger talking inside the room...I was so bummed but I said "Sorry...don't have one" and then the security guy was very polite and said I would have to leave...which I did. It was awesome...the crowd went nuts! I met Trip Kalhaf and Danny Miranda backstage...which was very cool. Atomic Dog wrote: Just Amazing! Thanks Again Paul, Brian, and Roger!!!Yes- Truly an amazing show--I was in the Pool Seats--almost an out of body experience!! Paul was really spit spot and very sexy LOL. The mist, lighting for the show, sound etc. were incredible . By far the best QPR show I have experienced. Here's hopn they come back in the spring. |

shootingstar wrote: Hmmmm... I generally don't like to disagree, but I at least wanted to throw my opinion out there.Right ON!!! Most folks these days are quite boring-Paul is Fab, sexy, wears nice clothes, belts out tunes, makes an effort to make eye contact with those in the crowd-he's not going to prance around like Freddie..no do brian and roger want that. It was very evident to me that something"clicks" between the three of them by watching their facial expressions between each other---Yes I was that close..Brian apologized to at the end of All right now (he botched the beginning) Brian said " sorry I f***** up" Brian was watching Paul- filled with pride, relaxed and happy---I have seen crabby pants Brian MANY times on stage. This is a great lineuup that I hope we get to see more of in 2006. |

First off, to the parents of the kids that yacked and yacked until I finally had to turn around and give them my best, "Keep talking and i'm going to disembowel you with a wooden cooking spoon."=look, please think about pulling out your wallet and getting a fucking babysitter next time! Now my thoughts on Hollywood go as follows: Negative: 1.) American Queen audiences(especially in California) really suck! It started by the piss poor non-reaction to Freddie's voice on the opening 'It's a beautiful day intro'. There was no singing along really with 'Love of my Life', which I for one enjoyed being able to hear Brian do so much of it himself + the scattered 10 or 12 of us Queen fans, mostly from out of town, coming to L.A. just to see them. The fan stupidity peaked with 'Bohemian Rhapsody' in 2 things. First, they didn't respond to hearing Freddie's voice until the video cuts to the close up of his face. Secondly, the audience "Nothing Really Matters" part of the song the audience is supposed to carry, turned into scattered gibberish. I gotta say, the british audience in Birmingham kicked our asses as an audience! 2.) Roger's voice was shot. Very raw, you could hear him conceding in ways to sing his material, and barely able to pull off the songs he could. He did manage to belt out considerably well, considering the physical limitations of a voice in need of rest. 3.) Roger did a drum solo that was great, but was only about 45% as long as his usual. 4.) Queen did the same exact set list, nothing new. Positives: 1.)BRIAN FUCKING MAY!!!!!!!!!!! INCREDIBLE, let me repeat, INCREDIBLE performance. He played what I consider to be the best '39' and 'Love of my Life' versions of the tour. He glitched a couple of times, like on 'I'm In Love With My Car', but all and all, he was strong on Saturday. Amazing job of 'I Want It All'. What made the show for me though was -- 2.) BRIGHTON ROCK SOLO!!! -- Brian was in a zone, the sound was real cracled in a way that was reminiscent of the early albums(I wonder if he used a Greg Fryer Ringmaster or something for that solo). He was truly incredible! 3.) They did the PR stuff quite well. I particularly enjoyed 'Rock N' Roll Fantasy'. Paul in general, did a great job in L.A. Overall, the weakest post Brixton opening show I have heard of the 4 shows I downloaded, Sheffield show I bought, and Birmingham show I went to. It was great, worth every penny, but I was very bitter by the idiot children behind me and the shitty American audience. I wish we could have shown more enthusiasm. Maybe then Queen would feel better about doing a full tour. |

I know no-one's asked this but...don't you wish they'd done this several years ago? Do you think they're suffering pangs of regret after seeing the good response from old and new fans? Paul's been accepted and now everyone's wanting more. I hope 2006 sees some new material released, it's been asked-for for so long now! |

Just arrived home after a 7 hour drive back to Arizona. I'm really enjoying being able to read everyone's feedback. Did anyone see my Jeep on the road with "RETURN OF THE CHAMPIONS" Taped in block letters to my rear window?? Anyways...my review is that it was wonderful. I thought the vocals were terrific from all 3. The sound mix was the best I've ever heard in an outdoor amphitheatre... heard all the vocals and all the instruments... it was loud but not over-loud in my section in the Terrace boxes. I am feeling very fond of PR... so glad he had the balls to do the tour - I thought he did a terrific job, voice was excellent, sang with confidence - not imitating Freddie and singing with his own style, but not detracting from the Queen music we love. Glad we got lots of Brian & Roger solos - their voices sounded great - IMHO, better than on the DVDs I have. I loved all the moments that everyone has already mentioned but my favorite was when Brian and Slash were just WAILING, at one point, cheek to cheek, and you could see a BIG smile all over Brian's face with whatever Slash was saying to him. I couldn't hear the audience much. Now and then I'd try to come back from my Queen place and look around behind me and then I saw many happy faces and people who looked like they really were enjoying it. But outside like that, you just don't hear the roar that you do in a covered arena. I also think there were many fans like me who brought friends or family with them who were not necessary big Queen fans - so didn't know all the songs -- like I'm in Love with my Car, '39 and such. I was sad '39 was cut short, but very glad to have heard it. Regrets....well, I wish I could have been much closer. I couldn't find the right mix of looking through my binoculars for close ups and seeing the whole stage. I wish it didn't go by so fast! Maybe I wish I hadn't listened to the CD before the show so that each song would have been a wonderful surprise. I'm so glad I finally got to hear this wonderful music played by the masters! Personally, I'd be very surprised if they come back for a full US tour, though we can hope! |

Yeah I was singing/shouting along with the Beautiful Day intro! A lot of big Queen fans from the '70s probably wouldn't even be very familiar with that though so that didn't really bother me. I did find it odd when Bo Rhap started that it took so long for a reaction...I thought there'd be a big roar from the crowd immediately. I think people didn't quite recognize it at first because the live version cuts off the beginning. Something I worry about, because of the compilations using too many pop songs instead of hard rock songs, is that a lot of people in the US might think of Queen as a pop band now instead of a hard-rock band, which would explain why they expected to just sit there and listen rather than get too energetic. It seemed to get through to them by the end though :) |

I don't diss Axl, simply because of how much he worships Queen. I laugh when I hear about all the guitarists going into the studios with him to jam, and coming out bitching that nothing pleases him. The one who didn't was Brian. He said that Axl was fine with everything. No shit, I would imagine. |

And the concert was amazing. Second time seeing them and knocked me out. Paul ROdgers was the right man for the job. Which is not to say there might not have been other singers who would also have been right too, but Paul really stepped in and stepped up and got the job more than done. I'll be sad if they don't come back next year, but even if they don't, I feel incredibly lucky to have been a witness to something that, even 5 years ago, seemed about as likely as Elvis or Hendrix going back on the road. Whoever complimented Brian, Roger and Paul on the size of their testicles was exactly right. Doing what they did was risky and took great big balls, and they not only pulled it off, but pulled it off in style and with a ton of class. |

AmeriQueen 26.10.2005 21:52 |
I don't think it took balls, it took brains. B and R were smart enough to not compromise the band's integrity by trying to re-live the past. They went on with their careers and when a grand opportunity was presented for them to revive Queen with a new twist, they took it. There are a few singers(George Michael for instance) out there that could fit in for Freddie more accurately than Paul, but that's not what they were looking for. With PR, they have made their music fresh and new and brought it back with the help of Free and Bad Company's legacy. What amazes me the most is that when I compare this show with other Queen shows, it actually holds it's own. PR is no Freddie, not by a longshot. But it's so cool to see a well thought out, theatricaly sound show with lots of Brian, lots of Roger, and tracks like 'I Want It All' and 'These Are The Days of Our Lives' included. Bravo Queen! |

You are surely not a member of the Official Queen Club then, where the tour's been discussed on the daily basis with reviews and photos. There's no trolling there either as you'd have to pay to be a member (hardcore!!!). Also, Japan trip was organised by Jacky, who's been running the club for over 40 years! So, some lucky UK Queen fans (and some European) met up with Japanese fans. There were so many stories and photos you missed. |
