I don't know why I am sharing this with the board. I guess because this is a Queen board and it seems an appropriate place. I am 31 years old and until a year ago, I always had a bad relationship with my mother. Yesterday, she fucked things up by sending me an e-mail with an attachment that is fucking pathetic. The attachment pretty much says(something which my mom agrees with) that there was an upcoming gay demonstration/parade in New Orleans this weekend. The point of this shit is that "God fucked up New Orleans to punish gay people for having whatever event this was." My mom actually believes this shit. It is embarrasing to share genetics with someone so homophobic and ignorant. It's more sick that religious fanatics would blame gay people for a destructive natural event. It was ironic that my mom sends me this trash on Mercury's 59th B-day. I just feel like saying, though I am not gay in the slightest, I feel bad for any gay people out there who run into this sort of disgusting, hateful association of homosexuality being linked with evil. I personally find gayness(male at least) a disgusting act, but not only none of my business but also nothing in which I am in any way able to rationally judge or pass any moral opinion on. Gay people need to be left alone to live their lives anyway they want to, so long as they do not affect, harm or otherwise hinder any other human being. My mom comes from an ignorant, backwards upbringing which has tainted her, but I will never judge anyone on their sexual orientation. Sorry for this personal post, I just find myself to be an agnostic whose most faithful thoughts in a god of some kind existing come from the belief that some of the world's beauty seems to amazing to be a part of science or some chaotic accident. The irony is that the top creation that gives me holy thoughts is that of Queen's music. "How could music like Queen's be just a part of a world where all is science and random, godless creation." Her sending me such a hateful e-mail made me feel sad that there are still some twisted fucks out there that not only spread their hate but try and convince themselves, much less us, that there is a god that is willing to destroy a great city just to take out his aggressions against gay people. This kind of shit deserves thought, not because of any realism, but because of the realism that there are sick bastards out there who think this way. Down with organized religion and all people who try and spread this human disease to others. |

You know what, don't pity those people. Despise them. Thoe people have enough pull to affect our laws, our lives, our cultures... Their idiocy keeps us down as a race. I have always looked at religion as the human disease. My favorite quote is from the movie Fearless when Jeff Bridges said, "People don't choose to believe in god so much as they choose not to believe in nothing." I love this statement because it defines this need for god that so many have. I believe there might be something holy, but I choose to not believe what I am told. If the world were more into science, we would be further along as a race and a planet so instead of pitying these people, fight against their pathetic stupidity so that oneday we can explore our world without fear of an invisible man punishing us for not doing as we were told by the greediest and most condescending groups of people that this world contains. |

AmeriQueen wrote: You know what, don't pity those people. Despise them. How many times have you read my signature? It says: Love your enemies. Read deeper into the statement. In a time like this, it can mean your enemies are helping you build tolerance. Don't waste your energy on hatred when it can be used in much more worthwhile places. It's a hard thing to do, and it requires a lot of mental and emotional stamina - but it can be done. I have my issues with religion as well, as I'm sure you've read about on this board in various topics. Personally, I think anyone who can whole-heartedly believe in a theistic God, in this day and age, in this twisted world (understatement), is in a state of delusion. For those of us who are put off by mainstream religion, there are some decent spiritual ideas out there, but in most cases, they're more like philosophy - buddhism is a prime example. I've become acquianted with very positive and rational spiritual ideas written by the Dalai Lama. But there are plenty of seccular philosophy books that can connect with people just as well. Religion, or anything of the like, does not have to be the answer. There will always be someone who is against you on virtually any subject, so it's best not to focus on them, but on more positive things and people. It's usually the harder thing to do, but how often is the easy thing to do the ultimately correct thing to do? Success is measured by how hard you work for something. However you get to that point, if it is your intent, I wish you the best of luck. |

I've been hearing about this for a while. According to Fred Phelps, god (lower-case g) hates gays, America, New Orleans... anyone who agrees with that ought to get a solid kick in the nuts. If god honestly hated homosexuals and other queers, we wouldn't be around today. Think about it. If god honestly hated everyone the Bible claims he hates, why are we here? And even the biggest, right-wing Christian isn't automatically "safe from wrath" because people like Phelps are protesting Matthew Shepard's funeral and high school gay/straight alliances. And then there are those who watch children's programming and wig out because Tinky Winky and Spongebob are gay (My arguement is that they teaches children tolerance). "God is a loving, wonderful creator who has done so much to make humankind and life truly great. He doesn't judge anyone and can forgive anyone because he is so powerful... But us followers of god hate your ass and we're going to blame every bad thing on gays, foreigners and non-Christians!" - The Bible-Beater creed |

Very sad indeed! I notice that particularly in America they use God as a reason for disasters and the lot. My guess is that they need a reason for what I would say was a poor response by the US government to act in time. It seems to be alright for the American government to give a sheer damn about other people except their own. As for gay people I am one of the proudest and I DID NOT CHOOSE TO BE GAY...I WAS BLOODY BORN GAY! Thank you! Cheers, Proud and Gay David |
