Paul brings a new take to alot of them.'We will Rock You' is a prime example. Although not my favourite version,it is different,in a good way. I know hes not everyones cup of tea, but he tries. As for any fave version. There on a par with each other. |

Compared to studio versions - none. But this live version of I Want It All is undoubtedly much better than it would have been with Freddie. |

I also think the same about The Show Must go On as he sings it AMAZINGLY. Yes- IWIA is awesome. I also love Fat Bottomed Girls- very, very ballsy :) |

I don't know how well Freddie would have sung the ''new'' stuff live and unfortunately we will never find out but I really found these live versions butt kicking. |

Not even Queen in the "Q" part of this group. Can't have "Return of the Champions" when the champion himself is missing. All good things come to an end and for Queen it was on Nov 24, 1991. This group will be on a great rock concert, I'm sure.Is this Queen? Nope. |

Mr. Scully wrote: ...But this live version of I Want It All is undoubtedly much better than it would have been with Freddie.??? C´mon Martin... a statement like this is absolutely rediculous! I´d say this live version of I Want It All is undoubtedly much better than it would have been with John Deacon on bass! :-) PS: ...of course I´ll have to admit that the operatic section of BoRhap was up to Freddie´s standards! ;-) ...and never forget... "Queen in Concert" wasn´t just Freddie hitting all the high notes... it was more his showmanship than anything else!!! Brian May + Roger Taylor + the rest of the backing musicians 2005 is more about making money than anything else... in my opinion still enjoyable, but somehow very sad! |

Sharon G. wrote: No means NO. True I have not seen Q+PR,but have Heard them. Not Queen. Sorry. The question was whether or not certain Q+PR renditions were better than Queen's renditions, not whether or not this was Queen. Bottom line: you and many others here are far too closed-minded to even entertain the possibility of Queen 2K+ being better in any way, or even having different positive qualities than the old Queen. With that in mind, you will never gain any respect here from people other than those who are completely like-minded as you. People like you are Freddie fans, not Queen fans, or even music fans. If you were, then you would be open-minded to new directions music can take. Fenderek, you saved me from having to go on one rant, but I just had to go on another one, anyway! :P Right, so... songs that I think Paul sings better live than Freddie live: I Want To Break Free, and A Kind Of Magic. His ending of Break Free, and also BoRhap... chills up the spine. He just gives a different flavour to the Queen classics, and it's brilliant. Brian plays I'm In Love With My Car with many more of those little details now than he did in Queen, because he has Jamie doing rhythm guitar. Brian sounded incredibly strong singing I Want It All at Brixton, and I wish he would have continued singing this song throughout the tour - although Paul does do a fine job on this one as well. And I have to agree, Paul puts a unique spin on WWRY and WATC with his bluesy-style vocals. He also does a fantastic job on The Show Must Go On. Paul definitely has a better vocal range than Freddie did on stage. Too bad so few people have a true appreciation for this man and what he does. But of course, nobody will ever have the stage presence that our beloved FM had. But that isn't what Paul is. Paul is being Paul, not trying to emulate FM, and that's why I like him as well. |

In my opinion TSMGO would have been better sung by freddie than paul... And i want to add that the greatest part of the songs are better sung by freddie, no doubt about. I'm not saying Paul was bad, i actually think he did a good job. the songs that fits his voice very good are for me fat bottomed girls, we will rock you i want to break free(but freddie gave something more in it) and his songs. not sure about i want it all, i have to listen it again... though talking about the "new queen stuff" we're just using fantasy. |
Zephyr 31.08.2005 13:43 |
Ther is no Queen song sung better by Paul then sung by Freddie. |

Why should we compare? It is just a new era for Brian and Roger.Unfortunately Freddie passed to another stage, dimension or whatever and we are deeply sorry for that.I am sure many of us still do not or can not digest or accept that sad fact.I think Brian and Roger are struggling to overcome that situation (they refused lots of gigs in the past since Freddie was not in this world anymore...) and they are just doing what they know and enjoy: music.I thank them for sharing their art with us fans and I am very happy for they found someone with such a long experience as a singer, with his own style, to get together onstage and keep on rocking us.They are friends and get along great, they are having fun and being productive, they aro so positive and creative, they are alive... so that is what counts, doesn't it? I know opinions are so subjective, so I can only repeat, thank you Brian, Roger and Paul. And dear Freddie, you were so special for all of us and you will always be in our hearts. Peace and whole lotta love. |

I prefer Paul's Fat Bottomed Girls and Tie Your Mother Down to Freddie's. |

I don't know about songs played better than by Queen. They are quite different and I really like some of the Q+PR renditions. I had no idea Paul Rodgers could do justice to songs like TSMGO. |
Freddie's #1 Fan Forever 31.08.2005 14:49 |
As I have pointed out in previous threads, it is pretty obvious to most Americans that Freddie Mercury was defining element/star of Queen. In other bands, such as AC/DC, Van Halen or Led Zeppelin, the guitarists are as well or better known than the lead singers. This is not the case with Queen. Even in the UK, it appears that people regard Freddie as the really important member of the band. For instance, Freddie figured prominently in the Millenium Poll a few years ago, in which 600,000 English people voted for their favorite musicians, songwriters, etc. Freddie was ranked pretty highly as a vocalist, a musician and as a songwriter. The only other member of the band who made it into the poll at all was Brian, who was was at #90 (or something like that) as a songwriter. Unlike Freddie, he was not voted as one of the top musicians. I find it intersting that, on this very web site (link one year ago, a poll was done in which Freddie was overwhelmingly voted as the best songwriter. Furthermore, although John and Roger also got a chuck of the minority vote, it is fairly well documented that they received a lot of help from Freddie when they wrote their songs. In fact, Roger even admits that Freddie basically re-wrote both "A Kind of Magic" as well as "Radio Ga Ga". If you watch the "Magic Years" video, you can see evidence of Freddie basically dictating to Brian and Roger how to play (in this case, I think that it was "One Vision"). The other members of the band are very talented guys and they did in fact contribute a lot to Queen as well. However, when Kurt Cobain died, the other members of his band had the courtesy to change their name over to "Foo Fighters". Maybe they had legal rights to the name, but they still decided to do the respectful thing. If Brian and Roger are really such extraordinary musicians, then they, like the Foo Fighters, should have no problem attaining success under a new, more appropriate name. I don't think that there is anything really wrong about going to the Queen + Paul Rodgers shows. Although it would be terribly depressing for me, other people might really enjoy it. On the other hand, I really question the loyalty of the "Queen fans" on this web site who are going around saying that Paul Rodgers is a "better singer" than Freddie. In fact, I find these people infinitely more offensive than the religious fanatics who are writing posts about how Freddie is "burning in hell". My final point is that I feel that it disrespectful of Roger and Brian to continue to use the name "Queen" in order to sell themselves. |

tiffmoab why don't you try and actually express yourself without copying and pasting the exact same post over and over and over and over and over in different threads. |

loyalty?? it's not a question of loyalty it's having the right to listen and enjoy good music and the music right now is Queen + Paul Rodgers....Freddie was amazing but he's not here now so I'm enjoying Queen + Paul Rodgers and Paul IS doing a fantastic job and MORE IMPORTANTLY Brian and Roger who are two very important members of my favourite band of all time are ALSO ENJOYING THEMSELVES and being able to do things like they did before such as play HUGE stadiums, have BIG light shows etc.... as for the songs... I'm really enjoying Paul's version of We are the Champions and We Will Rock You - also Show Must Go On...(although we'll never know if Freddie would have done it better) same with I Want It All....in all I really like the song choices in this tour....I'd still rather have some rare stuff just like any die-hard fan...but I like the fact that this tour ROCKS more than the Magic tour did....(just meaning heavier songs and/or heavier versions of songs).... I still dislike the opening keyboard bit of I want to break free but it's good once it gets going |
