vanush 02.07.2005 17:09 |
Why did he change the lyrics Bloody hell he butchered it and why the hell wasnt there mics in the crowd? |
DarkQueen 02.07.2005 17:10 |
Eh? What pile of shite? Robbie IS a pile of shite but what's the bugger done now? |
Nuno 02.07.2005 17:15 |
He just sand We Will Rock You at live 8 completly fucked the song up - didn't know the lyrics - to me it sounded like he made them up as he went along SHOCKING |
vanush 02.07.2005 17:18 |
well they did put mics in the crowd but no one said we will rock you DISGRACE |
pma 02.07.2005 18:04 |
He has been singing WWRY in his shows with these "alternate" lyrics for a few years now. He once again simply stole the show and the crowd loved him. Get over it... |
Nuno 02.07.2005 18:11 |
only my (and others) opinion nothing more nothing less ....... I suppose some people just want Confrontations |
Jjeroen 02.07.2005 18:47 |
Hey, I love Robbie, but he sang just awefull! He looked and sounded like he was drunk?! |
Vulcan 02.07.2005 19:15 |
He did look high as a kite!! YOu can tell from the butchered WATC from that film that he's no Fred!! |
flashalive 02.07.2005 19:15 |
Robbie did a crap job of WWRU !! I don't have any bias to him but he really did a poor job of it although he did alot better on his own material. |
Russian Headlong 02.07.2005 19:41 |
the guy is a talentless prick who has been overhyped by clever pr. His cut off mic stand ala freddie was hideously embarassing, he sums up all that mid nineties shit music. |

Thank god that Roger and Brian didn't decide to tour with him, because i know it was discussed. *wipes sweat from forehead* |

Robbie is thankfully hated by Americans. He was to the British what Justin Timberlake is here in the US. Pink Floyd kicked ass at Live 8! |
Grantcdn 02.07.2005 23:30 |
Yeah Pink Floyd was good, The Who was good, Paul McCartney was good...but my favourite was Green Day doing WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS.....just so cool to do that song there....and it's great that they are bringing that song to millions of new fans....cool band doing one of the classics of all time....still if Queen + Paul Rodgers were there...they still would have stolen the show because their music is just too good |
Richard Orchard 03.07.2005 02:14 |
Robbie was awesome!!! He totally out-classed everyone there. It was like he swapped the crowd from being rather sedate, to one that was alive and willing to bounce! I thought the first song, with U2 and McCartney tagging along was totally pointless. I am wondering if u2 were happy with that? |
newcastle 86! 16483 03.07.2005 03:52 |
well said richard! robbie was total class if anyone says otherwise your a loser, he is entertainment you fuckin idiots! that means not only a front man.......a showman too he stole the show with his being and his aura........... GENIUS........................ |
BHM1775 03.07.2005 04:13 |
Robbie raised the concert to a new pitch. He proved he can handle an audience and got them to interact. A true entertainer of the highest degree. Freddie did it last time, Robbie did it this time. |
Serry... 03.07.2005 04:16 |
Agree. Robbie is a good and gifted entertainer... I can't understand this: Darkness love Queen - they're great, Robbie loves Queen - he's a shit. I'm tired of this fuss like: Mr .... from band .... loves Queen and everyone starts to shout 'yeah, yeah, I always loved ..... band!' and then another Mr ...... from another band ..... said that he doesn't like Queen and we get 'he's a fucking moron, someone tell him to go and fuck yourself'. Robbie did a good job on Live 8. That's my opinion. |
D@VID 03.07.2005 05:00 |
Seen Robbie before and he is awesome live, big fan of his.But I have to say "Rock You" was fucking shite.Crowd were clapping and singing but they never had a decent mike on them. His own songs were great and he stole the show but "Rock You" was half-hearted and not very well thought out or executed |

the crowd went crazy when Robbie performed. He gave a good (okay...ego-tripping) show. |

I've made my comments about him over the live 8 thread on the personal boards.... |

If he'd used it all the time like that, then it would've been bad, but I think it was a nice acknowledgement |

I was expecting a big start as it was U2, but Status Quo were a much better at opening the first one than this time. Also, though I thought Bono showed Macca up a bit. PM's vocals aren't that strong really |
maxpower 03.07.2005 14:59 |
take your heads out your arse.... Robbie got the crowd going & built up the atmos, & if you noticed about his peformance he aint done a gig in two years, & very cleverly got the crowd to sing pratically every word... its called being a showman i thought Queen fans would appreciate that & whats wrong in nodding your head to guy that stole the whole show 20 years previously |
Mrs.Taylor 03.07.2005 17:53 |
Totally agree with Richard, maxpower and whoever else said it. I've seen Robbie live, he is a fantastic showman and he knows how to entertain a crowd. He played about with WWRY when he did Knebworth, sang a verse or so and then moved on. And as for imitating Freddie - doesn't the saying go that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery? However good Live8 was as a show, no one really got the crowd going like Robbie did, which is pretty poor when you consider he was one of the last performers. As as for saying it was a good job Brian and Roger weren't involved with Robbie's performance - they WERE involved with the Jubilee concert and although I like Will Young more now, I thought he was shite doing WATC. |
The Real Wizard 03.07.2005 20:56 |
Many people keep complaining about Robbie's ego, and then don't want people to draw comparisons to Freddie Mercury... yet one of the biggest egos in the history of music was Freddie Mercury's. Just read the stories about him behind the scenes. 'Prima donna' and 'baby' are often words used to describe his behaviour. |
Martin Packer 04.07.2005 09:58 |
Wearing blue jeans and a white singlet under his coat and scarf? Anybody else wonder when the coat'd come off? :-) |
Josuè 05.07.2005 18:35 |
I was there and I enjoyed Robbie as hell. It just happens that when he appeared with the WWRY on his hands i just looked at the floor. But when he stopped ruining the song and performed his songs I went totally mad. Just great. I went with 3 friends to see Pink Floyd, but I enjoyed Rob, Sting, Velvet, The Who (they totally rocked!), and of course Pink Floyd was priceless. We hadn't tickets so we managed to get in with a few tricks (and jumps). Just as funny as lucky. :D |
Smartie 05.07.2005 18:49 |
fuck all of you who think robbie is a piece of shit...He's a great entertainer and a quite good singer! so shut the fuck up everyone, his version of We are the champions was also good |
Josuè 05.07.2005 18:53 |
I don't think telling everyone who disagree with you to fuck and to shut the fuck up is a great way to discuss things and to have friends. Just a thought. |
NOTWMEDDLE 05.07.2005 20:10 |
Robbie Williams is a joke here in the US! Thank Christ us Americans know he is shit! He is outside America whhat Justin Timberlake is here in the US, a former teen heart throb from a boy band gone solo sensation! Green Day, those punk phonies, pissed on We Are the Champions. Billy Joel or whatFUCKINGever he calls himself can't sing high notes well and Robbie pissed on Freddie's grave as well! Anyone who hates Paul Rodgers should shut the Hell up! Paul is well respected in the US for his work with Free, Bad Company, The Firm(with Jimmy Page) and on his own! |
Mr.Jingles 05.07.2005 20:24 |
OK... I'm going to try to give a fair observation here. There's no fuckin' way that anyone could say that Robbie Williams singing 'We Will Rock You' was good. Robbie Williams makes himself look like a total fool whenever he tries to become Freddie Mercury. Yet the rest of his performance was somewhat decent. I still don't get what's all the fuss about him in the UK and Europe. I'm not particularly the kind of person who enjoys heartrob pop stars, but still I have to say that George Michael was by miles a far better performer than Robbie Williams. About 'Green Day' I have to say that they've butchered 'We Are The Champions' and I LOVE GREEN DAY, it just doesn't sound good. Billie Joe's vocal range is just too limited for that song. If Green Day ever wanted to do a Queen song, they should do 'Sheer Heart Attack' or 'It's Late'. I however, have to say that I really enjoyed Billie Joe doing that 'Dee-Day-Doh' thing like Freddie. |
Krizzy 06.07.2005 12:43 |
I do not like the man or his music, sorry! Met him once and found that he was just too much bullshit! Like to think he impresses people with that attitude...that is mainly why he has not made it in the US. Even hip-hop artists dont have the shit attitude toward fans that this ass has. Sorry. He's not a smart fellow. |
on my way up 06.07.2005 12:50 |
to me ,it is simple:robbie stole the show!he did it with a song from queen and with acting like freddie(half micstand for example)conclusion:he was the best entertainer of the day but by far not the best singer or musician. Our fabulous freddie and queen did it all. They played their hits, freddie did his typical performance with incredible power and energie and his voice was brillant.this show proves how great queen was! |
Insomni@ 06.07.2005 17:41 |
The show was OK but I hated it when he CHANGED THE WORDS!!!That wasn't good...cause if you want to sing a huge song you just don't change the words! But,the rest of his songs were great-especially Feel. |
doremi 06.07.2005 18:13 |
Bitesthedust said [quote] ''comparing Robbie Williams to Freddie Mercury is like comparing horse manure to ice cream. period'' [quote] LMFAO! I thought it was the best statement on this thread. Succinct and direct to the point! |

I never saw the whole show, but I've just heard WWRY, and that was truly horrible. Shake my head, that was bad. |
Michael Allred 07.07.2005 19:10 |
In the past I've been a Robbie defender on these boards. After reading various opinions on his WWRY cover at Live 8, I DL'd the video from AOL to see for myself. Folks, it was awful, from beginning to end. I can't speak for the rest of his set as I didn't watch it but WWRY was about as botched as it could get. Messed up lyrics, limited vocal range, weak drumming, no guitar solo. I can now say I am pleased beyond belief that Queen went with Paul Rodgers and not Williams. |
Boy Thomas Raker 08.07.2005 09:49 |
I think that people who defend Robbie Williams just don't understand music. He's a good singer, serviceable to very good at times. Not much of a writer. Very good showman, but he tries wayyyyyy to hard. He's a media savvy showman, who looks like he's studied Freddie, Elvis, Frank sinatra & George Michael, and taken all of those elements and made Robbie. I don't think the guy has a bit of originality, and totally understand the person who said he's just like Justin Timberlake, a good looking boy band celebrity who loves the spotlight more than music. The fact that some people thought he stole the show the way that Freddie did at Live Aid shows how far standards have fallen in 20 years. He's a hack. |

With trying too hard is soi true, never noticed that... |
Queen Maeve 10.07.2005 14:33 |
Yea I think Robbie was terrible when performing WWRY. His own songs were really good though. It just proves that he is best at doing his own thing. He couldn't pull off WWRY because he's not Freddie. He is better off singing his own songs and not trying to imitate Freddie Mercury. |
Boy Thomas Raker 11.07.2005 08:57 |
And that's the rub, Queen Maeve. Robbie Williams is a fine performer when he performs as Robbie Williams. But for people to compare him to Freddie Mercury is like comparing Roger Taylor's guitar skills to Jimi Hendrix's. Freddie Mercury ARGUABLY had the greatest voice in rock history. He ARGUABLY was the greatest frontman in rock history. He ARGUABLY wrote the greatest song in rock history, and he ARGUABLY belongs with Lennon/McCartney, Jagger/Richards et al as one of rock's greatest songwriters. Robbie Williams? Can ARGUABLY carry a tune live, and is UNARGUABLY a great, albeit 100% contrived, live entertainer. How people can mention his talent in the same breath as Freddie Mercury's is mind boggling. |
Little Queenie6 11.07.2005 14:31 |
I saw the performance and was not impressed. I'm not a fan of or follower of Robbie Williams' work, so forgive me if this has been covered already, but what's up with the lyrics to WWRY? |
Mr.Jingles 11.07.2005 15:02 |
I have to admit that Robbie is a good singer for a teen pop star, but seriously, he's just another disposable pop star. He might be a huge star now, but in 10 years he'll be forgotten. In the late 80s George Michael was a far bigger star than Robbie, and now George has pretty much been left in the past. Keep in mind that George Michael was much more talented than Robbie. |
