The Government decided to levy a congestion charge of 5 pounds on vehicles to enter the centre of London, as a way of reducing the obvious problem of daily gridlock and to encoutage more people to use public transport. Recently they increased that charge by 60%, to 8 pounds, as they are money grabbing bastards.
Now they tell us that because so many people will be using the trains by 2010 that they will have to introduce a train congestion charge.
Fucking unbelievable.
GAAAAAH. I have a cold right now, so seeing the word "congestion" makes me immediately curl up like a boiled shrimp.
How is it that we have a variety of pills and medications available that help 90-year-old men have sex, but we have not yet discovered a nasal decongestant that actually works?
Sorry to change the topic.

Hijack..Lol I actually thought that's what this thread would be about!
Hope you get well and feel better. Eat Chicken soup & toast.
I hate to say it, but I think it might be a good thing . . . obviously, not being in the situation myself, it's easier for me to see the good side of it, but I actually think they should do something like that for Toronto to.
Way too many people in this world overlook simple, easy things like public transport and carpooling for no good reason, and then just destroy our planet for the selfishness of personal convenience. Clearly, public transport is not practical in every situation, but I think a lot more people could put it to good use, and at least your government is actively encouraging it. Maybe I'm just being a naiive, idealistic, and cheesy environmentalist (which I'm not, usually), and maybe the government is not actually doing this for environmental reasons, but it will, nevertheless be beneficial in the big picture. I think it's important to keep in mind that our planet is worth far more than our money.
The point is though - they are encouraging people to use public transport and then penalising them by introducing an extra charge for doing it. As it is, our trains are crap, they smell, they are notorious for breaking down, the tracks need replacing, delays are commonplace and the fares are rediculous on some routes.
If the Government are going to force us off the roads, at least have a decent public transport infrastructure in place.
Wait - are they actually going to implement a train congestion charge?
Sorry, I thought that was a joke! Wow, ok, in that case, forget what I said. That is REALLY stupid.
I live in Maryland USA and every job, thus commuter traffic I have had is local.
But I thought that in parts of Washington DC & Virginia in certain lanes of the Highway, they not only charge you, then fine you fir being in a commuter lane if you are the sole passenger in your car, something like that.
Anybody who lives in this area know for certain?
