I was thinking the other day about Queen playing Bill Graham's Winterland in San Francisco and wondered if it had possibly been filmed.
It's no secret the Bill made a practise of filming and recording shows that he promoted. There is great footage of Hendrix and the Band of Gypsy's, the Who at the Cow Palace when Moon passes out and Kiss in '74 well before they hit the big time.
It would be nice to have some early black and white footage from the Sheer Heart Attack US tour.

In that case I'll go transfer my full color to black and white, just for you. Don't know why you fancy B/W that much, but hey, we're here to help each other.
That's untrue. Most or all of the footage of Cream / Derek And The Dominoes was destroyed as was Jefferson Airplane and a number of other high profile bands.
It's B/W simply because it was filmed on in-house CCTV cameras and therefore, a very basic, low cost set up, not intended for high quality release at all.
Luckily the audio survived for the Derek and the Dominoes. The two cd set of those shows are excellent.
It is a shame if all that great stuff was destroyed in a fire, what a goldmine Graham had!
Would anyone have a list of the videos that are known to exist?
I have a video recording of a Bob Marley & the Wailers show at the Coliseum in Oakland, CA in 1979. It was also shot by Bill Graham Productions and then the master was damaged in the fire in the 80s unfortunately, too. At least it survived, but the picture is quite unclear and very dark.
The audio masters for the D&D shows didn't sit with Bill Graham - they were retained by the band's management as they were recorderd specifically for the purpose. All of the BGP internally filmed shows have mono soundtracks and it's just a film archive.
As for a list o fwhat is in the archive - who knows. No one from the BGP organisation will speak to ANYONE outside of a band management company.

The fire DID NOT destroy any of the videos. What went up in flames was memorabilia such as posters. This is simply a cover story to prevent endless pestering of those BGP employees who own the videos or copies of the videos. The Cream vids exist as do the Zep vids, but unfortunately you can count on one hand the number of people who have possession of these gems.
Well, you believe what you want to believe and I'll do the same.
I know an archivist who worked for the organisation from '78 - '92 who confirmed that certain parts of the film archive went up in flames.

Oh my dear friend I'd love to chat some more about this topic, but it best be done off forum. Please contact me via e-mail.

Likewise, that's why a dialog could be quite illuminating.
Your e-mail is not listed on your personal info.
Is the Winterland show the one where they sang only 3 songs and then Freddie said he couldn't continue or something like that??? His voice actually sounded pretty damn good although I did notice he lowered a few notes and he struggled on the 3rd song, "Ogre Battle" on the very end where they sing, "uh, uh, uh.....uhhhhhhhhh".
Would love to hear some feedback from some of you folks who might know the real story.
