Are there any other musicians (guitar, piano...) that have doubled their appreciation for Queen by understanding and seeing the complexity of their compositions?
It just seems that, being a guitarist, I don't really like songs that seem too easy... for example, AC/DC songs are cool, but I can't have a total appreciation for them since I know they're a simple progression of power chords.
However, knowing music, I can understand the originality and difficulty of Queen songs, their structures, their chords, and their skill.
It's kind of hard to articulate. Do any other musicians feel the same way?
It can be the other way around as well. Pink Floyd chord progressions are mostly really simple, but it's very difficult to make it sound like Pink Floyd. Trying to recreate David Gilmour's tone gave me a deep, deep respect for the man, even though the music itself isn't very complicated. In the end it's the feeling that a song gives you that counts, and not the chord progression. Nobody croaks them like Bon Scott does!
