I was in New York over break and had the excellent fortune of seeing this musical on Broadway from a floor seat (which is probably why my ticket cost so damn much).
After getting out, I can say that I have no trouble understanding why this is sold out for the next two years. This was the most amazing thing I have ever seen that has yet to be named a wonder of the natural world. "Defying Gravity" (song) made me sob. Shoshana Bean is an amazing singer. The set was like nothing I'd ever seen. Shoshana Bean is bloody fantastic. The cast was pretty much unbeatable - if I could be in a production with half that talent, I would die a happy woman. And did I mention that Shoshana Bean is incredible?
If you are ever in the New York area, I urge you to camp out in a box office line for the next three years so that you can get a seat. Or at the very least, to buy the soundtrack.
My girlfriend wants to see 'Wicked' but she hasn't done it yet even though she has the privilege of having Broadway 30 minutes from her by train. She got the book for Christmas and she loved it.
Btw, Mandy where else did you go when you came here to NY?

Well, I also saw both All Shook Up and Spamalot (which starred Tim Curry, the love of my life). Both were immensely entertaining - Spamalot was fall-out-of-your-chair funny - but the producers of ASU are probably feeling a bit depressed right now.
Most of what we did was just browse. I'm not much of a shopper. I did meet Jane Fonda, though.
It's coming to Chicago at the end of April, and I'm planning on seeing it.
I actually just "Les Miz" the other day with a few friends, which was awesome.
