I got Mr Bad Guy last week. and it set me off thinking, did they remake the right solo songs?
I agree with I was born to love you, with queen's backing, the song has an extra kick to it.
Made in Heaven...Im not so sure of. I know it fits the album, and is the title, but I think there were possibly stronger tracks...but Im not sure.
anyone have any ideas?
I think the Freddie songs they put on the album were absolutely perfect - they even managed to turn 'I Was Born To Love You' into a rock song! Compare Freddie's original 'Made In Heaven' to Queen's version, and there's no contest. Granted, the original was a somewhat decent song to begin with, but it always seemed to me to be more of a Queen song than a Freddie song, even back in 1985.
Brian, Roger, and John turned it into what it should've been: over-the-top, overblown, grandoise, and epic - everything that a great Queen song should be.
I do enjoy the heavy remix of the track Mr Bad Guy. Really good stuff. I believe a Red Special replica was used on it...? (please, correct me if I'm wrong. I'm just guessing)

I agree, it's one of my fav tracks from the box set.

They should not have chosen any at all - that was the most crap thing they ever did when producing a Queen album. I know they were short of material, but they really should have used only Queen related stuff.
IWBTLY and Made In Heaven were two very good pop songs and I'm sure the songs just sounded right for Freddie (otherwise he would not have recorded them). So it was really a disrespect to Freddie to rework them (Freddie would never let them if he would still be alive). Maybe with good intentions (honouring Freddie) ... but the result is still crap. THank god, they didn't release them as a single.
The versions on MIH sound awful....
I love the songs on MIH, and I think they went with them to set an even tone, although it would have been nice to see them take the vocal tracks from some earlier Queen b-sides and re-record all the instruments (like they did with Freddie's songs). Hang on in there, or I go Crazy would have been great.
I prefer the original IWBTLY. To me, it feels better the way Freddie did it alone. The synth (especially the solo in the middle) is very energizing.
But I like the remade 'Made in Heaven' better with Brian's guitar.
I like Queen's version of MIH.
They put one Roger's solo track with Freddie's vocal on it, one Brian's (originally Queen's, but since it was released firstly by Brian it might be called as Brian's solo track), so why they couldn't use Freddie's solo tracks? They sounds okay for me.
well queen stole 2 brian solo tracks for innuendo(headlong/i cant live with you.
its just the way it goes. and they took a Roger Taylor solo track too.
Im glad they didnt take John Deacons no turning back..lol
I think, Peter, you should realise that IWBTLY was never much liked by Freddie. Once it was recorded, he remarked to Brian that he wasn't in love with the song. But Brian had encouraged Freddie that it was a really nice track.
And yes, I love the MIH album overall. The title track sounds great to me.
Peace,
Adam.
yeah but the Freddie solo tracks were already released unlike ICLWY and Headlong, and one of them was a big hit already. and they had been released on a different label so it was very surprising
