What does the chorus in the song have anything to do with the verses in WWRY? Am I just missing the meaning of the song? I hear it all the time and I know the chorus is to get a crowd going. But the verses are about a young man growing up and facing the world, at least that's what I think. But then they say he is singing "we will we will rock you" and it doesn't fit to me, unless WWRY has some meaning that I don't know about, besides saying they will put on a good time. That's my take on it, people usually do not talk about this one, they ask what is the meaning about Bohemian Rhapsody and the real meaning behind We are the Champions, but I was wondering if there was any special meaning behind WWRY? |

I think that We Will Rock You could be considered to be going out and facing the world and all that is in it. Just talking about what's out around there and how you have to face it. That's always been my interpretation, though I'm sure Brian May has an entirely different perspective on the matter. |

I don't get that feeling from it at all. It's kind of a 'get out there and face it, or shut the hell up' kind of feeling. Kind of edgy, but in-your-face...about it being a cruel world but you can live with it. "Waving your banner all over the place singing, 'We will, we will rock you'." See, tough world, but you're facing it kind of vibe. |

I like ya'lls interpretation. I've wondered about it myself. |

Great topic. I see it as an anthem of a guy in a shitty world who says "fuck it"... sheer arrogance, no matter what they say. that's my flag, that's MY life, and I'm gonna rock you; no matter what. Throw mud in my face, kick me til my face bleeds, but I am still gonna rock you! |

A very quick music lesson. Up until about 100 years ago, the language of music was always Italian. By the time the great migrations of the early 20th century were over, this language had shifted to the USA. Simple generic musical terms like "Blues" were adopted for "sad" music. "Rhythm and Blues" for sad music with a backbeat or a rhythm. "Spiritual", "Soul" and even "Country" music were just as easy to define and understand. The term "Rock 'n Roll" was always interpreted as a euphemism for the sexual act. (Music to rock - and roll by!). That is one of the reasons why early "Rock and Roll" was viewed as dangerous and of the devil. Not so much for the music itself - but what the music stood for - pre-marital sex and a hedonistic life-style. Thefore to get to the point "Rock" (Carol) is a four letter word spelt - Consonant, Vowel, the letter "C" then the letter "K". Sound familiar? How about "F" - "U" - "C" - "K"? Now - everytime you hear the word "Rock" in a song, just remember that it is primarily a polite substitute for the "F" word. If you are still skeptical try the little test of recognised Song titles below... (Feel free to add your own)... We Will Fuck You Fucking All Over The World The Majesty Of Fuck Crocodile Fuck Fuck Around The Clock Fucking Around The Christmas Tree Any others... |

According to Brian May, WWRY is the circle of life wrapped up in a nice two minute package. I'd say that the first verse is a youngster who sings WWRY for fun, second is someone in the prime of life who is singing it as a threat or statement about changing the world, third is resignation that things didn't quite work out as planned, so you just say fuck it, "I couldn't rock you, but Queen will always rock you." Of course I may be full of shit. |

The meaning of We Will Rock You? I'd be surprised if it had any meaning at all. |
John S Stuart 30.12.2004 13:14 |
Negative Creep: "...I'd be surprised if it had any meaning at all". If modern art is "...to be experienced" - then "We Will Rock You" actually DOES mean something! Even a simplistic Freudian anaylisis would demonstrate that seemingly senseless random words thrown together will still betray some meaning from the subconcious - simply because a sub-conscious choice or selection has taken place. This stands true for even made-up invented silly words! The only way that any art/song could be devoid of any meaning is if it was written using a random selection of machine generated words, and even then (as suggested by Roland Barthes and Susan Sontag) this would still be open to a valid interpreation from the reader. Therefore "We Will Rock You" is FILLED with meaning. Whether we accept that or not - is a very different argument. |

Of course it has a meaning, and the meaning is pretty close to the one I've described. Can't find Brian's quote on it but it was close to the "circle of life" thing I posted. |

I guess the meaning of WWRY is related to some kind of third rate bully, but known in Brian's neighbourhood, who ends his life with nothing. But to the "Rolling Stone" magazine, it has some nazi meanings, which is ridiculous. |

WWRY...view of rock n' roll from the street? WATC...view of rock n' roll from the penthouse? Brian once remarked that the band's breakthrough seemed like pushing a big rock up a hill, which became a giant incandescent ball of flame, rolling downhill faster and faster. Also, WWRY's interesting similarities with "Tear it Up" esp. @ LAWS. |

Get Down Make F*CK Umm, my keyboardist posed this question last night, amid New Year's beers, "what if you add the word 'butt' before the word 'love' in a song title?" LOL! |
