On the Queen Greatest Video Hits II bonus features they have live clips from some music festivals. Those songs sound exactly like the origional tracks, there's layered guitar Brian could not have possibly played in one strum, and sometimes Freddie would take his mouth away from the mike and he'd still be singing. Were they FAKING?? And if so, why the HELL did they put it on a damn GVH II?? Please somebody tell me I'm wrong! |
Gunpowder Gelatine 29.12.2004 20:28 |
They actually were lip-synching at the Montreux Festival. I think it was just policy to have any artist appearing lip-synch, but the band wasn't too pleased, which is why Freddie didn't make a huge effort to be convincing. |

Both damnit. It's a disgrace. Why on earth did they put it on a Greatest freaking Video Hits then? But at least I know i'm not crazy now. |

KingMercury wrote: wow tell me how did you realize about it??? its obvious that the band was not playing liveIt's because I'm a musical genius with an amazing sense of intuition... Ok. But really, I thought it was obvious. Then again, I believe I have what you'd call a phonographic memory, kind of like photographic only I can always remember exactly how something sounded or exactly what somebody said. Not too unusual, really. |

Good Old Fashioned Boy on GVH1 was recorded before the show then lip-synched by the band. |

Freddie and lip-synching... that doesn't fit. I hate that video in Montreux. I don't know if all the bands faked their performances there... But I do know that the gigg was shortly after releasing a new album, so maybe Queen wasn't ready to play those songs live. |
Scirocco1977 30.12.2004 05:12 |
AS far as I know, giving bands the opportunity to play life is much more expensive than letting them lip-synching. Queen had to be convinced to do it. And it is soooo obvious they are not trying too hard. And if you listen to the commentaries on both GVH DVDs Roger is telling again and again how boring that is. Didn't he say that telling someone they are good in lip-synching would have to be one of the worst insults? |
The Fairy King 30.12.2004 05:56 |
I think i would make fun of it too. Freddie started off with a mistake and he went with that...ur not foolin anyone why fool urself? He had fun on stage. |

Queen... LIP SINGING??? Yes, you do use your lips to sing. ;P |
Negative Creep 30.12.2004 13:12 |
"Freddie and lip-synching... that doesn't fit." Well.... he lip-synched every freaking promo video |

I get a kick out of John and Brian 'playing' the synthesizers on 'Radio Ga Ga'. I think it's fun, and was included because it hadn't been released anywhere before in its entirety. |

Please explain to me.What I mean was you don't have to copy and paste other people's comments, or whatever you're doing, to your own comment when you want to reply to what they said. I noticed you were doing this and was wondering whether you were doing it on purpose. If you put the quotes in a box (like I did above), people would probably understand you more. To do it, there's 3 boxes above each post, and if you click the one w/ quotes it will do it automatically. I'll feel really dumb if you already knew this but whatever. I'm just anal that way I guess. And as long as I have you, you didn't misunderstand me in that post about Brian May did you? Cause loads of people did. It kind of upset me. I was TRYING to say that some people here should be more respectful and careful of what they say about him, because some people make it SOUND like they're saying he's a loser. Either I should have been clearer, or people didn't bother to read my post all the way through or SOMETHING. Anyways, sorry for the miscommunication! |

I actually enjoyed watching Queen perform at the Montreux Festival....it was funny the way Freddie acted...it was hilarious to watch him be as least convincing as he could...I also noticed that Roger messed up a drum beat in one of the songs..anyway...they appeared to be having a good time....can't take these things too seriously... |
ryancoke 31.12.2004 00:02 |
Unfortunately yes, they were lip-synching. I was shocked myself, but I'm glad to read that they were forced into it and didn't do it by choice. |
Awesome-O _4000 31.12.2004 15:27 |
Yeah, me too. |
Somebody 01.01.2005 07:20 |
Queen didnt want to play at that festival because it they hated not playing live, but the chance to be seen by so many people was too great an opportunity to pass up. Especially when they were trying to gain back fans after the relatively lackluster HOT SPACE. I think it does have a place on GVII. I personally want to see every single piece of recorded Queen performance. Its a chance to see other footage to their songs. |

This is another of these topics that makes me wonder why I bother to come to this siter anymore - why are there so many sad individuals who have lowered themselves to childish bickering. The subject matter itself is bad enough, I mean, How obvious is it that they are miming - BLATANTLY. As for people being outraged with it - get a life. |
nibznik 01.01.2005 13:57 |
if you watch closely during fat bottomed girls you can see freddie forgetting to "sing" into the microphone the third "yeah" near the end. |

I find that blow up a bit rediculous. We all have our own opinions, and nobody said they were "outraged". If you don't like the subject matter, move on and grace someone else with your presence. |

Just friendly banter. Electric.Fire wrote: makes me wonder why I bother to come to this siter anymoreFunnily enough, we don't care if you never came here again. Infact we'd rather you DID'NT. Sanremo - another lip-sync job. I read that is why they were never asked back there to preform, as Freddie refused to make it look like he was really singing (and it made the producers very angry). Queen hated lip-syncing as they were (and preferred to be) a LIVE band in every aspect. |
Awesome-O _4000 01.01.2005 16:33 |
Lol Dust_biter, I think you said it better than I did. I'm just too nice sometimes and want everyone to get along. And thanks Teddybear, that helps me to feel better. I still wish they had put a better performance on the GVH2 but you can't have everything. And as someone else said, I'd rather have that than nothing. They probably put it on because it was "rare and previously unseen" footage. |
Mrs.Taylor 01.01.2005 16:33 |
At Montreux in 1987 I believe Roger blagged it to perform live with The Cross, on account of the fact that it all had much to do with Jim Beach being a driving force behind the festival. And that same year, Spandau Ballet's tape of "Through The Barricades" slipped during their performance. For another fine piss-taking lip-synching performance, I quite enjoy Las Palabras de Amor on Top of the Pops. Roger looks drunk (and probably is) and Freddie just isn't trying. LOL. |

wats the big deal with the ppl about lip singing... freddie probly started to lip sing with the group during the 80's in montreal to sound better...i mean good gosh they are actually singing the words with the mic on the just have the recording on just incase they forget a few words cuz some of the songs they song they didnt sing until 1981. |
