I haven't read anything in a little while, but I am usually reading Dean Koontz.. Or John Grisholm novels.... I am also trying to write a couple books myself.. a while back I wrote this really good book about Star Trek.. it included some Queen references such as the capt. was Bradley H. May, a direct decendant of Brian.. he had Brians Red Special in a glass case in his ready room.. along with a holo program of every Queen concert in which he could go in and play along.. sadly I didnt have a printer at the time and never gave it any thought until I had a virus that wiped EVERYTHING.. I was crushed.. |

You don't know who I am. But I gave my opinion about the differences between you and Miss James and OOOOOHHHH!!!! now I'm "too politically correct" and I've "sold out to social standards". You really know what you're talking about, Mr. I-Know-Everything-About-Everybody. |

How stupid are you? You did a general remark in answer to my post and you were not talking with me? WOW! I didn't defend the Bible, and I'm not an US citizen or an US politically correctness follower. Read carefully (or just think, you'll discover a brand new experience). |

Where has AC mentioned the Bible? He was defending Miss James' right to have her own opinion without being attacked. I don't give a damn if the book she was talking about was "The Adventures of Winnie The Pooh", she is allowed to feel the way she likes about it, just as you have your own opinions. edit* Incidentally, I don't think you should go around telling people how they feel about things when you don't even know them. You don't want me making generalizations about you, do you? Give others the same courtesy. |
AC 11.12.2004 18:14 |
Again... do you ever think sometimes? I attacked you for attacking Miss James. And not only for this, but also because I don't like you for many other posts. This was just a thing I could not let go. I'm not "politically correct according to US politics, which tend to dominate the world somewhat". Again, you don't know who I am, but you judged me from one post (and you didn't even understand what I said, as shown above), Mr. I-Know-Everything-About-Everybody. |

I attempted to read the whole torah over the summer- in English, of course. I can only sound out Hebrew words if they have the vowels. The actual torah uses tropes, or something. I tried this only out of guilt for not having a Bat Mitzvah. I didn't even get past Genesis. |
veronica58 11.12.2004 22:52 |
Megamike: sometimes, when people write, they employ literary devices such as figurative language, metaphors, etc. and I think that the bible is one of those things that can't be taken literally in every aspect. i guess the problem with christianity is that every denomination can read the bible and decide which part of it is literal and which is exaggerated for the purpose of storytelling. |
Taylor-Mayed 12.12.2004 07:35 |
All I can say is that Miss James is clearly a woman of exquisite literary taste. Myself, I am just finishing reading an anthology called "War of the Worlds: Global Dispatches", edited by Kevin J. Anderson. It's not too bad, but gets a bit repetitive - 1) Famous writer somewhere in the world is faced with the Martian invasion of 1900, 2) They and those around them miraculously manage to destroy one or several Martian war machines, 3) The Martians all die of the common cold, the end, onto the next story... Still, some interesting perspectives on one of the greatest stories ever told. |
Wreckage 12.12.2004 07:51 |
Right now I am reading 'The Fountainhead' by Ayn Rand. Very good conceptually, but her prose is sometimes a little too dense. I've also just finished 'Bush's Brain' By Wayne Slater & James Moore (a fairly objective biography of Karl Rove, provides a really good perspective on the ascendancy of Bush and the GOP and what they are trying to do). And also - on a similar theme - Machiavelli's 'The Prince' (which is still pretty spot-on about the realities of politics). |
Janet 12.12.2004 07:58 |
LOL! Okay, okay, Robert and Amanda, next year I shall order 6 tickets (Can't leave old Tick out, can we?) And as soon as I figure out how to fit a slice of cake into an envelope it will be on its way ;-) (Though Robert could probably use his as a doorstop by the time it arrived ;-) ) Btw, the show was absolutely stunning, I swear they get better every year. |

I have read the Illustrated Children's edition that my grandmother tried to tempt me in Christianity with, however, and by my reckoning that counts ;-) I'm spending this summer by being a complete nerd and I'm making a start on the approximately seven Victorian novels I'm supposed to be reading for one of my uni papers next semester.
