Hey Aussie fans! Just wondering if you ever get annoyed that the media never mention anything about Queen, like the release of On Fire At The Bowl, or whatever. The only thing they ever write about is WWRY the musical and that's usually when it's about Ben Elton! We Aussie Queen fans need to shove it up our media...! |
Shane Jazz 13.11.2004 03:41 |
I'm from America, my friend, and the situation here is basically the same (except they don't even mention Ben Elton!) Rap and hip-hop seem to dominate the airwaves, so a band with true talent and timeless songs doesn't warrant much of a mention. Keep the faith, though. |
iGSM 13.11.2004 04:25 |
G'day mate, I'm from Perth. I hadn't heard a thing about Live at the Bowl. I only managed to pick it up because I happened to be wandering around K-Mart in the electronics section and spied the word 'Queen'. I was suprised, however, that I managed to pick up Live Aid so quickly. Plus I pre-ordered Tommy. Can't wait for that! |
bomber_dan 13.11.2004 18:52 |
iGSM, what's Tommy? And Killaqueen, how old are you? I'm 18. |
iGSM 13.11.2004 22:16 |
Tommy is the movie The Who made based on the album. It has Jack Nicholson in it, The Who themselves and bucket load of other celebrities in it. |
Craig_Aussie 14.11.2004 00:26 |
Yeah your right there's not much publicity for Queen here in Australia but you always here about WWRY the musical. I found out about the new DVD in a JB HI FI catologue so i went out and bought it, and the lady at the counter told me they were selling like hotcakes, so it could be an indication that it might be the top of the music DVD charts in Australia when the charts come out on Monday. If your interested in finding out go to link. |
bomber_dan 14.11.2004 01:14 |
Nope, it's not in the top 40 DVD's! Oh well, Australians don't seem to know too much about music... lol. |
Monte: Liquorice Years 14.11.2004 02:07 |
fuck australia! its crap! they never sell any good music, no decent bands ever tour here (when i say 'decent' i mean, my type bands... other words, classics!!) im hoping this fire bowl thing comes out soon...or i get it soon monte (ps, im from sydney) |
bomber_dan 14.11.2004 02:34 |
How old are ya, Stunning C... I mean Cunning Stunt? ; ) On Fire was released last week in Australia I believe. Anyway, I got both the DVD and CD (in that order) last week in Melbourne (where I'm from). |
Monte: Liquorice Years 14.11.2004 03:37 |
that kicks arse!!!im 15, btw...but i say im 16...that way im legally allowed to have sex...*wink wink* how old are you? |
bomber_dan 14.11.2004 16:11 |
I'm 18. I see your fave member is good ol' Rog too. He inspired me to play the drums (for fun, lol)! |
karen 14.11.2004 19:58 |
Hi Bomber_Dan, I couldn't agree more how Queen are totally ignored here - the Fire DVD is No.1 in the UK charts!!!! I got the DVD last week even tho I already had something similar off E-bay - Freddie is great isn't he?? I am from Melb and hope to go & see the Tribute band Queen Essential this Fri 19th. (I am 30+ by the way so a Queen fan from way back...) I also saw a Queen DVD in the K-Mart catalogue called "Magic Moments", but when I went there they had none!!! What is going on... |
karen 14.11.2004 20:03 |
P.S. It is great to see all you younger guys getting into Queen - keep the legend alive!!!! |
iGSM 14.11.2004 22:24 |
Hi there Karen. Steer clear of Magic Moments. My I.Q dropped nine points. As expected Jet is at the top of the DVD charts. Fair enough. I'm suprised Robbie Williams is still in the top 10 with 'Live at the Albert'. About the 'classics' not touring The Eagles just played over here and it was quite a success. There are more bands/solo acts touring over east than over in W.A. That is a pain. I'm just glad Cold Chisel isn't touring any time soon. Australians unite! |
bomber_dan 15.11.2004 00:26 |
Magic Moments is not THAT bad! |
Lester Burnham 15.11.2004 00:32 |
iGSM wrote: Tommy is the movie The Who made based on the album. It has Jack Nicholson in it, The Who themselves and bucket load of other celebrities in it.I heard that movie's horrible. I still want to see it though. But I don't want to waste my money on it. Conundrum. *steals iGSM's pre-order slip for Tommy* |
bomber_dan 15.11.2004 00:58 |
Karen, where are you from? |
iGSM 15.11.2004 01:03 |
Nah, Magic Moments isn't that bad. Just some of those guys annoy the hell out of me. Tommy has the Who in it..IT HAS to be good. |
iGSM 15.11.2004 01:04 |
Melbourne, by the looks of it.. *does a hook turn* |
bomber_dan 15.11.2004 01:07 |
Yeah, I meant where abouts in Melbourne, if she wishes to disclose that information! ; ) |
Monte: Liquorice Years 15.11.2004 01:18 |
iGSM -- the Eagles are touring in Sydney too, but the tickets were nearly $400 and i dont have money to burn. and i guess the who and the rolling stones toured...but still! they need more coverage!! WOOOO! go Dan!! Roger's great... he inspired me to play the drums too (now all i have to do is get the drum kit, and you know, learn...) but the drums are fun... i have a temper problem, so you know....stress release. and all you Australians (i refuse to say "aussies") email me... or even better, add me to MSN (if you have it) all the Europeans and Americans who add me are never on at night over here.... lil_freya8@hotmail.com wooo! rock on!!! monte |
Lester Burnham 15.11.2004 01:55 |
iGSM wrote: Nah, Magic Moments isn't that bad. Just some of those guys annoy the hell out of me. Tommy has the Who in it..IT HAS to be good.Yeah, but The Kids Are Alright also has The Who in it...AND THAT IS SO MUCH BETTER! /logic |
teddybear 15.11.2004 03:11 |
Well I thought it was pretty cool when "A Current Affair" showed the musical and Brian and Roger performed live in the studio - I LOVED THAT !! And this morning the "Today Show" had a news story on the re-hash of the new "Bandaid" song and Kate Melua said "I remember being about two years old and seeing Queen at live aid".......so they do get a mention, from time to time. |
Monte: Liquorice Years 15.11.2004 03:20 |
yes, they only got a mention on ACA because the musical was opening... and who wrote it? oh! an australian! what a surprise! (Ben Elton is austrlian, btw) i love ben elton, the young ones is a great show, but really... they wouldnt have gotten a mention if it was for ben elton...or perhaps a small mention. thats it monte |
teddybear 15.11.2004 03:26 |
Actually Ben is NOT an Aussie, he is married to an Aussie - so guess you were not paying attention to all his interviews?????? (ROFL). And anyway, I thought it was neat that Bri and Rog were on ACA - one minute you guys complain they are not on TV, then when they are, you still complain !! C'mon - try and beeeeeeee abit happy OK? |
Monte: Liquorice Years 15.11.2004 03:31 |
actually, ben elton IS an australian citizen. he and his children accquired their citizenships not that long ago...so suck on that! he and his children are english and australian and im not complaining that they were on TV, im complaining about that they wouldnt get as much attention if it wasnt for ben elton being australian. and you know, i didnt get to see them monte |
bomber_dan 15.11.2004 03:48 |
Nah, that's ok. Besides, the younger the Queen fan, the better!!! |
Monte: Liquorice Years 15.11.2004 04:08 |
what's your age got to do with anything? if anything, you should be quicker ebcause you have young blood! not slow! |
bomber_dan 15.11.2004 04:42 |
Nah, it's 'coz i asked her her age! |
iGSM 15.11.2004 18:53 |
*stabs Lester in the eye* Shaddddddup. I only know three people that payed for 'ULTIMATE MEGA SUPER DUPER PLATINUM ULTRA EDITION' tickets for The Eagles and these people were die hard fans. Die..Hard..fans. They had a luxurious $3500 night (went to see The Concert [where it rained], got tanked, stayed at the Burswood Casino and gambled to their wallets wept). Good time, I'm assured. Mind you the debt collector had even more fun. |
bomber_dan 15.11.2004 19:35 |
Anyway, the point of this topic was to raise awareness of the lack of mention they get here down under!!! Bastards. The only reason why some people say, "Huh, Queen?" when I tell them my favourite band and they don't approve or don't know too much; is because the f****n media think they're just a few-hit wonder!!! It just makes me angry, I wish we lived in England or somewhere so my family would realise the impact they have! |
karen 15.11.2004 23:13 |
Hey Bomber_Dan, I live in the Dandenongs - way out east. My 8 year old daughter loves Queen. She sang "Crazy little thing called Love" at Karaoke, has been to see WWRY, and Queen "Kinda Magic" - this is how we keep it alive. I have also seen lots of young people at the Queen tribute shows. All you Melb people, there is a picture of Freddie in last Sundays Sun Herald (in the article about Bob Geldolf and Band Aid etc...). Also a pic of Brian May in IE in the same paper. WOW - 2 Queen pics in one week!!!! Also - I just got the "Magic Moments" DVD today - will let you know what I think - any Queen must be good Queen eh? |
bomber_dan 15.11.2004 23:51 |
Yeah thanks Karen... I live in Moonee Ponds... Do you know where that is? I've been to see "It's A Kinda Magic" tribute band as well in August, and I've got both Magic Moments and Becoming Queen unauthorised documentaries. I wish more people and youngsters could realise the magic of Queen... My brother (who turns 17 on Nov. 24th : ( ) and family just need to be a bit more informed. Yeah, I saw those pics of Freddie and Brian, but that was only in reference to The Darkness. The Darkness sure look like a bunch of nice young men, who I'm really inspired to listen to their music, now don't they? *Shudders* |
bomber_dan 16.11.2004 03:42 |
Take what just happened to me: my brother said he was going to some rebel punk shitty music festival, and I said, "I'm glad I'm not a young punky rebel!" And he said "At least it's not like all the Queen people who stroke each other's nipples!" FUCK THAT INFURIATES ME!!! |
bomber_dan 16.11.2004 17:02 |
They need to stop having a love affair with the Rolling Bones! |
karen 16.11.2004 18:28 |
Bomber_Dan - Keep the faith - just keep listening to Queen and sooner or later someone will say, "Hey what's that great music you're listening to..." If your brother likes punk (HBTY) play him "Sheer Heart Attack", or maybe "Stone COld Crazy" eh? I LOVE the "Its a Kinda Magic" show - I went 8 times in all (flew to Perth for it!!). I have their poster up at work etc... I also have "Becoming Queen" which I got off e-bay - then last month I saw it in the shops here!!! (That must be good - it means people ARE buying Queen) By the way, you may want to live in Japan - they are crazy about Queen over there - I think almost all their albums are in the top 200. This is almost worth a new topic isn't it? |
bomber_dan 16.11.2004 18:32 |
Yeah, he just dismisses Queen! And what do u mean by (HBTY)? Thanks. |
iGSM 16.11.2004 20:47 |
Karen, you didn't happen to see Queen when there were in Adelaide in ... '85 I think it was? I know I certainly didn't...not being conceived and all. Most of my friends like at least one Queen song and I've managed to convert a couplee but alas it's still usually Top 30 stuff. Sigh. |
bomber_dan 16.11.2004 20:48 |
How old are you again, iGSM? I'm 18, nearly 19. |
karen 16.11.2004 21:40 |
Bomber_Dan, For your brother, HBTY = Happy Birthday to You! iGSM, no I missed Queen, (yes, it was '85). I regret it so much because I WAS old enough then, and could have seen them in Melbourne. Although I read that it wasn't a great concert because they had no proper lighting and it rained! |
bomber_dan 16.11.2004 22:11 |
Nah, he doesn't deserve to be wished a happy b'day (we hate each other because of our music tastes!)! |

Craig_Aussie 18.11.2004 00:13 |
Okay Queen On Fire is number 13 on the DVD charts which im quite surprised with, i thought it would be a lot higher but there you go... Also Live Aid is number 2 maybe when they see Queens performance, well Freddie in particularly they'll go out and buy the On Fire DVD. |
bomber_dan 19.11.2004 02:23 |
Hi Natisse! |
Pax 19.11.2004 04:20 |
bomber_dan, rock on! You're so right, the Australian media sucks crap. Just look at the major review of we will rock you, the guy had no idea and heaped shit on it, what a turd! Queen deserves so much more coverage and support from the media, but no, they're crap. |
Pax 19.11.2004 04:26 |
I meant the media's crap, not Queen by the way..... |
Monte: Liquorice Years 19.11.2004 22:34 |
