The worst of a very few bad attitudes I accuse Brian is to include TMLWKY in the BTTL album after Freddie recorded this song for a future album that would be released only 3 years after.
So he tried to oversell this song at the cost of reduce the impact of the Freddie's version when it get released.
He shouldn't have included this song in his solist album. Or as a variant, it shouldn't have appeared on the MIH album; It would be perfect for a future Queen release. Just imagine how would we enjoy this song if we took knowledge of it around this time. I don't mean a whole album. Just as a single release for this song would've been a great surprise.
Have BM or QP ever give any explanation or at least a small comment about this matter?
Freddie recorded Too Much Love Will Kill You for The Miracle, but for legal reasons, it didn't make it on. It was Brian's song in the first place, so why shouldn't he be allowed to re-record it for his own solo album? Brian also probably wasn't thinking about future Queen releases, namely Made In Heaven, when Back To The Light was released.
Was it a mistake for Brian to sing TMLWKY at the FM Tribute concert?
Certain criticisms of Brian I can understand where people are coming from but this...
...Not to mention that Brian first recorded the song in 1986, years before THE MIRACLE SESSIONS. Then, Freddie recorded just two takes in November 1988, so I guess he was not very fond of the song. After all, it is Brian's baby, it is about his personal feelings about his own life. I guess we cannot criticize him for re-recording it for his solo album.
By the way, Brian announced that a QUEEN version existed when he was here in Argentina in 1992. And I remember that the announcement caused quite a sensation!

C'mon....
First: Freedie recorded the song for the miracle, all of us surely have the demo. But that version isn't the one that appears in MIH, it was re-recorded in 1991.
Second: Brian wrote the song. So what? He also wrote Sail away sweet sister and it didn't appear in starfleet. Roger wrote Action this day and it didn't appear in Fun in space. Freddie wrote It's a hard life and it didn't appear in Mr. bad guy....
Third: No he didn't know that the name of the album would be Made in heaven, but he knew that if they recorded some songs, they were to be released.
"But that version isn't the one that appears in MIH, it was re-recorded in 1991."
Er...actually, as Wilki already said, Freddie recorded takes during the MIRACLE sessions. NOT the MIH sessions in 91.
Also, Brian wrote and recorded a version (demo or otherwise) before bringing it to Queen. On top of this, the Queen version wasn't released because of the multiple writers of the track. Legal problems.
Sometime after getting the legalities out of the way (post-1993?), Brian was happy to be able to finally release it. And the idea for the MIH re-recorded version came about.
Peace,
Adam.
There was no 1991 Too Much Love Will Kill you recording session with Freddie. David Richards himself commented on the song being and 'old analog recording'. The 'demo' we all have has some stuff different from the album version because it comes from a different take, but both are from November 1988.
When they choosed which songs re-work in 1994, they decided to include it. And I agree with the inclusion. By the way, the album title was first proposed in 1991 (but they initially discarded it).
Finally, I do not understand your point in your 'x wrote y' comment. Freddie wrote There Must Be More To Life Than This and Man Made Paradise, QUEEN recorded them, but they are on MR. BAD GUY. Roger wrote New Dark Ages for QUEEN and In Charge Of My Heart comes from the Stealin' QUEEN jam session, but they are both on recordings by THE CROSS... And these are just a few examples. Who knows what songs recorded both by QUEEN as a groups and by its members for solo projects remain unreleased (as was Love Makin' Love until the FM SOLO COLLECTION)?

Wilki said it all perfectly.
I couldn't think of a more pointless complaint.
It's a song about Bri's personal experiences after all...
