There is some legends about the fifth Beatle... Then WHO is the fifth Queen member ? Jim Beach ? Spike Edney ? Mack ? David Richards ? Crystal ? Morgan Fisher ? Mike Moran ? Roy Thomas Baker ? Tim Staffell ? Other ? I vote for Spike ! |
Gunpowder Gelatine 07.07.2004 18:14 |
All of them! They were just one big happy family! |
Penetration_Guru 07.07.2004 18:17 |
er...they were a four piece band. |
Flashman 07.07.2004 18:18 |
Yes, I've double checked the cover of Greatest Hits and there were definitely only four of them. |
tomnever 07.07.2004 18:19 |
I forgot to say why I vote for Spike. He's the person who helped to brought Queen back to the top with Live Aid, formed a band with RMT, another one with BHM, and keeps in a way the legend alive with his excellent SAS Band. He is a very underestimated man in music, IMO. And if somebody had to replace John, he's the man to do the job. Unfortunaltely, I don't think bass guitar is his most beloved instrument ;-) What do U think ? |
tomnever 07.07.2004 18:23 |
Of course I know there were a 4 piece band. But this is a theorical exercise, people ;-) I guess U know the "legends" about the 5th Beatle Stuart Sutcliffe, even this is very different. |
Flashman 07.07.2004 18:25 |
I always thought gap-toothed funnyman Jimmy Tarbuck was the fifth Beatle. |
iGSM 07.07.2004 20:30 |
Well you'd have to say Spike...and those other two pianists before him. Barry and..Jeff. |
Arnaldo "Ogre-" Silveira 07.07.2004 22:13 |
Spike. In the "also ran" category, or course. :) |
Wilki Amieva 07.07.2004 23:01 |
John Deacon. |
akindofmagic 07.07.2004 23:28 |
What About Mary Austin( this lady got well more prettiest on her mid-age then on her youth)? She was a person around Queen FRom the right beggining till the end! But i think that the outside member that, in just few years(4 or 5) had a highest input on band was Mike Moran. He wrote a fantastic album with Freddie , put a song of his own in a Queen album(quite rare) and gave his music finger to the guys. Spike... well , you know... he is family... |
The Real Wizard 08.07.2004 00:48 |
Roy Thomas Baker - 73-78 Mack 80-82 David Richards 84-95 Production is always something that is extremely underrated. If George Martin is the fifth Beatle (and rightfully so), then these three are the fifth Queenies in their respective time periods. |
Brian_Mays_Wig 08.07.2004 06:28 |
Spike Edney is a very under - estimated man in music. I looked at his bio on a web page a few months back and the amount of stuff he did before he worked with Queen and outside Queen is amazing. But like it was mentioned before, They were all one big happy family!!! They were a 4 piece band, I just double checked my greatest hits LP's to make sure Flashman wasnt lying ;) |
Brian_Mays_Wig 08.07.2004 06:47 |
Wasnt he the pianist in the early 80s??? The one with the fondness for orange??? Strange bloke. Great pianist though! |
Mr. Scully 08.07.2004 07:03 |
Undoubtedly Jim Beach. Spike Edney is called the fifth member of Queen above all because he started calling himself like that. At least that's what some people from the "inner circle" say. I think Queen were a nice boost for Spike's career. But truth is that IF the fifth member of Queen is a musician, it has to be Spike. Who else? |
deleted user 08.07.2004 07:04 |
But in what way was Mike Moran involved in Queen-stuff apart from All God's People , the Tribute and two FC Party-gigs ? |
deleted user 08.07.2004 07:04 |
non-existing post. |
inu-liger 08.07.2004 07:25 |
He co-wrote and played on the Barcelona album with Freddie and Montserrat |
Whatinthewhatthe? 08.07.2004 07:30 |
Jim Jenkins would be a nice mention...and Greg Brooks too. "Fifth Beatle", self-proclaimed, was American disc jockey Murray The K. Though I always thought it was Eppy (Brian Epstein, their manager)... |
deleted user 08.07.2004 07:31 |
I am aware of this, Dark, but that hardly makes him a candidate for "Queen's fifth member". More like Freddie's right hand... |
Arnaldo "Ogre-" Silveira 08.07.2004 13:26 |
LOL Wilky. :D |
queenrocks! 10902 08.07.2004 13:29 |
There were 4 members in Queen. Spike was only the number five when he was on stage helping the other four. He didn't appear on any studio albums. |
Pim Derks 08.07.2004 13:36 |
Spike played some keyboards on the AKOM album. He's even credited. |
Krizzy 08.07.2004 13:56 |
LOL There was no fifth member of Queen. Only four talented men. Mr. Spike Edney while a very talented man himself was not a member of Queen but a musician called upon to lend his talents on the very last tour of Queen. I'm sure he would not be offended by that at all, would you now? Cheers, Krizzy |
Little_Queenie 08.07.2004 15:22 |
Well, the one that was CALLED that way, was Spike... Although, they indeed were one big happy family:) |

I think of Stuart Sutcliffe and Pete Best as the loser Beatles. Although, didn't Sutcliffe die a LONG time ago? Anyway, I feel sorry for Pete Best- THINK OF WHAT HE MISSED OUT ON! |

I agree with production being very underrated. And George Martin is the 5th Beatle - never doubt about this, Lisa. |
Whatinthewhatthe? 08.07.2004 19:26 |
Sir George is a good man, but Fifth Beatle he is not. Maybe it's Yoko then? (LOL) |
SergeantPepperDG 08.07.2004 22:37 |
I thought George Martin was their producer. |

He got the boot in favour of Ringo, and he accepted it. Stu Sutcliffe is the one who couldn't handle it, as he later committed suicide. |

There was no fifth Queen member! There is no and there never will be a fifth Queen member!!!!! Greetz, Nathalie MSN address : brianmayfan@hotmail.com |
Deaky's Middle Nut 09.07.2004 15:08 |
Well, shitballs. I, for some reason, always thought that Queen was a 7 piece band...... Freddie - Piano, Voice Brian - Guitar, Ukelele, Piano, Voice John - Precision Bass, Piano Roger - Drums, Guitar, Voice Roy - Triangle, Bicycle Chimes, Flugel Horn Billy Ray - Steel Guitar (North American Tours Only) Spike - Keyboards, Guitar, Tambourine, Sax, Skin Flute |
Whatinthewhatthe? 09.07.2004 19:35 |
And Billy Squier!! |

And don't forget the mandoline with Spike ! |

it was me i really played the maracas in Who Needs You- then they threw me to the wolfs--thus the real reason why i consistently said its the song I dislike the most.... and there you have it |
