I know this question has been brought up time and time again, but I will have to ask about this once more. I downloaded a program only minutes ago, which detected 71 spyware files on my computer. Then the damned thing (which announced that it was free) popped up a window which said "in order to delete these files, you have to register your program and pay *insert amount of money I don't recall and certainly don't have*". Annoying at best. Now I want these 71 spyware files off of my computer, I suspect them to be the reason why my otherwise OK machine has been working so poorly recently. So, can you guys quickly list some good and EASY programs which will find the files AND delete them all for free? I have no downloading program such as Kazaa, so I need an internet address to this. Thanks! |

I use Ad-Aware 6 and Spybot. I think these are for free. Just search for the programms and you'll find them. |

Registry - where you delete and add values. Go to Run and type in regedit to get into it. |

the files that are detected from ad aware or other spam scanners can safely be deleted, because they are messing up the "heart" of your computer the registry is the basic administration of a windows computer. No need to be scared about it, like anything, you better leave it alone when you dont know what it is |

I would also recommend SpywareBlaster, which is FREE as well: link It prevents the spywares to get into your computer in first place. |

Well, I downloaded Spybot and I have deleted most of the spyware. However 3 spyware programs keep coming up on every scan and Spybot don't manage to remove them. How can that be and what can I do? |

I used CWSshredder (see below link) to get rid a nasty browser hijacker at work (that Spybot or e-Trust could not get rid of). That trojan is gone thanks to CWSshredder (and it is a "free" download, but a donation to this college student is suggested) link |

A lot of what these programs identify are simply cookies, but if you don't like the idea of such files being added to your computer without your consent, IE has settings which allow you to give permission to only the sites of your choosing. That's the way I do it. Cuts down on the amount of cookies better than Richard Simmons. Go to Tools > Internet Options > Privacy. First click on 'Advanced' and check 'Override Automatic Cookie Handling', select 'block' in both categories, click 'OK'. Then click the 'Edit' button on the same privacy tab to add & remove sites. This might cause you to need to start over and relogin to your favorite sites, and add each one to the list, but it's worth it in my opinion. Occasionally I encounter a new site which requires cookies to work and I'll either add it or just not bother with the site depending on the circumstance. |

Here is a simple solution and it was already recommended: Download SpywareBlaster, it's just fantastic and it's free. Install SpywareBlaster and then remove all spyware with SpyBot search and destroy. SpywareBlaster will then block all new spies from entering your system. I did this and I haven't had a single spyware on my computer ever since. Sometimes you should update the software but that is easily done. I only run SpyBot search and control once in a month now. |

After a while of using SpyBot Search & Destroy my Internet Explorer totally fucked up and even an old backup of my whole registry didn't fix it. I had to reinstall my whole system (which is a very useful thing to do from time to time anyway). AdAware 6 is good. Reinstalling system is also good and if you avoid Kazaa & porn sites, you shouldn't have any troubles with spyware at all. Or start using Mozilla instead of IE. |

I can only recommend it. I know that SpyBot Search and Destroy does not work well with adaware on the same computer but I prefer Spybot any time over adaware. |

Tried to download Adaware but it wouldn't work though I tried twice. Spybot seems to work but can't delete three spyware programs, one of which is called Xupiter and labeled a hijacker (which sounds bad). Another program I tried, showed a whole bunch of spyware which Spybot didn't find, but then when I pressed "remove these files" the program kindly informed me that only the scan itself was for free. Right now there's an ad from Google on this very page - has Queenzone started with ads or is it just another proof that my computer is fucked up? *sighs* Cannot download Kazaa even if I wanted to (I tried once, firewall stopped me), and porn is not a problem, lol. |

Kazaa is a breeding ground for spyware and viruses - just ask my brother and sister. Their kids used Kazaa (without using a firewall or virus checker!!!! Stupid or what!) and ended up with monumental amounts of problems. If you want to use Kazaa, I would reccomend using a friend's pc and keep your own safe ;-) |

The ads on this website are no spyware, Richard has them to help him pay the website. Silje, please follow my advice: Install SpywareBlaster and run SpyBot Search and Destroy, it will surely remove Xupiter which is just a dialler. It's just that the diallers install themselves again all the time and to avoid this you need SpywareBlaster - really. |

Silje, use the program Bazooka. It doesn't remove the spyware, it tells you how to do it yourself, but that isn't hard, so try it! You can find it on download.com And if you guys wanna use Kazaa, use Kazaa Lite. I've used it for 1 and a half year, and I haven't got any viruses or spyware or anything. |

The scan AND the use of the program was free. It got rid of the browser hijacker when other software could identify it but not remove it. Thanks to cwsshredder I can do technical searches of the web at work without getting an endless stream of bogus "search" pages. |
