I work in an elementary school and today our 5th graders graduated to go on to middle school. As they walked in to take their seats for the ceremony to start, "We Are The Champions" was played. I was quite pleased to hear my favorite band being played at work.
Queen songs I heard at my work:
I Want to break free
A Kind of magic
Heaven for Everyone
A Winters Tale
Invisible Man
Bohemian Rhapsody
The Show must go on
Too much love will kill you (bri)
Driven by you
In the 1.5 month I've been working there
Really, do we all have to open a new topic for everytime we hear a Queen song on the radio? *sigh*
Um terribly sorry I bothered you with my topic. You see I work at a school so it's not that often that I hear Queen here, infact I've never heard Queen here and I've been here 4 years, so maybe you can see the excitement. Besides I thought it to be very neat that our 5th graders are moving on to a bigger school, a milestone in their lives that has been marked with a little of Queen.
I won't open a new topic anymore like this since it's bothered you so.
sheesh.
FriedChicken, that wasn't very nice. :-(
Lisser-- how exciting! It's always fun when such a great band is acknowledged in a place you normally wouldn't hear it!
Cool Lisser!!
NIce to see that, young people need Queen! :D
and I always get excited when I hear Queen anywhere, even my parents tell me if they heard Queen in the tv or radio
I agree, the kids should be introduced to Queen. They absolutely loved it too. After the graduation was over they all went down the hallways singing WATC. It was way cool to hear them.
However-- it's not cool when you're discussing Queen with people and someone jumps in and asks if Queen are the people who did that 'mamma mia' song... I wanted to bury my head in my hands. Instead, I gave her a thin smile and nodded.
Dumbasses. >:O
I teach Religious Education at a Secondary School (11 - 18) in england. I've often played queen songs as part of my lesson.
A few weeks ago i taught a lesson entitled "Facing death" focusing on Freddie and Bill Bixby (my fav. actor) comparing and contrasted the way both men were diagnosed with a terminal illness and how they coped.
the lesson involved me showing the kids the video for Days of our lives and other songs.
thats cool at my school the teachers would rather die then even mention they have even remotely heard of queen but my religion teacher does enjoy telling us about the time he took some acid (he was at am alice cooper concert) and the trip was terrible and everything would happen over and over
Woohoo! Bruce Banner!
I heard Bohemian Rhapsody and Radio Ga-ga at a casino on Thursday..mind you that IS where they have the Musical at the moment so it seems sort of logical to have it playing.
The USA is almost a Queen desert. Queen are just another 70's band. It is not cool to be a Queen fan, and the USA's tendency toward homophobia does not help make Queen fashionable.
In the USA, you almost have a better chance of winning the Lotto than hearing a Queen song on the radio.
I was slightly exaggerating. Some Chicago area stations do play occasionally in a low key way.
You never hear promotional lines like -
Queen is played here!
Instead you hear -
Journey, Styx, boston, the Rolling Stones, AC-DC, Aerosmith, etc is played here ...
but never Queen.
I listen to Arrow 93.1 (I live in California) and if they play Queen, they always play We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions or Bohemian Rhapsody. I once heard Fat Bottomed Girls, though.
Then again, not a day goes by that I don't hear You Can't Always Get What You Want or Layla. With all the great classic rock out there, they still overplay everything!
Queen Songs I heard at my work (in bath):
Dragon Attack
Sheer Heart Attack
It's Late
The Show Must Go On
A Kind Of Magic
Spread Your Wings
A Winter´s Tale
The Invisible Man
Too Much Love Will Kill U (Brian)
Killer Queen
I fell the glory there, well for two reasons :)
If my boss is listening to his radio when I'm at work (I'm a part-timer) and Queen comes on he'll yell at me to come in.
Nice really. Since the other people who work in my office prefer hip-hop bollocks and student radio. :-)

Teaching at a school, i see kids on a regular basis. all of them seem to know at least 5 queen songs... Bho Rap, AOBTD, Break Free, Ga Ga, and of course WWRY and champions.
theres not many bands (of yesteryear) that can claim that.
I mean - how many Beatle songs could most kids name?
Well, I'm in Canada and we have that same Queen desert up here too. We get WWRY/WATC and FBG, and occasionally BoRhap if the station is feeling spunky.
The worst is, along the lines of what stations advertise they play, there's a commercial for Y108 that advertises a whole bunch of bands they play and not one is Queen--yet they play WWRY throughout the commercial! What a shafting.

You are absolutely right! About 2 days ago I was listening to the radio (for the first time in YEARS) and accidentally stumbled upon WWRY and WATC. I know those two songs are way too overplayed (for Queen, anyways) but I still couldn't move! Yet I was angry that they didn't play any other Queen songs.
Then, today, I went to the bank (they usually play soft jazz/classic/old pop) and there you go! The very faint, instrumental version (assuming so because I could hear the instruments but not vocal) of You're My Best Friend! I was just very shocked but so happy that I almost sang aloud with the music :D I'm still not sure what version it is that they played though (they had the volume really tiny).
