Hmmmm... think about it from his prospective for a moment, you're in this million-selling world reknowned rock band for 20 years of your life. Then your bandmate's song (WWRY) for which he has sole royalty rights to gets his song played more often all over the world then anything you have written and even the musical which has your music in it is titled after "his" song. Would that piss you often just a wee bit now! So you get your song on a Jaguar commercial and even get to rerecord it...mmmm...sounds like the perfect revenge if not lucrative £ wise anyway. And let's face the truth here...Roger made his point known about working with Britney, Pink and Beyonce in a recent interview...and that was on Brian's site...we can only guess what the outspoken drummer really says when he's out-of-sight of Mr. May. Kriz ;o) |

I'm going to have to agree with you here! |
Brandon 12.05.2004 14:06 |
Roger has no reason to be jealous. I'm sure he's getting paid something everytime WWRY is played anywhere. And aside from that, he is the "coolest" member of Queen. |
Krizzy 12.05.2004 14:31 |
That's true although I do not know what "being cool" has to do with the subject. Mind you, Roger is the most opiniated of the group and has at many times expressed himself more vocally that as of late, leaving many Queen admirers to wonder if he has mellowed so much that he has allowed Brian to take the lead role in Queen-related matters, or at least that's how it appears to many. Kriz ;o) |
Daburcor? 12.05.2004 14:35 |
"And aside from that, he is the "coolest" member of Queen." I also have to agree with that! Roger isn't my favorite Queen member, But he sure is the 'coolest'. So lets see.. Freddie was the fruity one, Roger was/is the cool one, John was/is the REALLY quiet one, And Brian was/is... Well, Brian is the curly haired guitar player! DUH! ;) |

I think Roger could care less about cetain things that Brian does care about. Brian said that he welcomes any people to cover a QUeen song and has no problem with it. If i had wrote those songs, i wouldnt have let half the people who have covered them, cover them... Like Wyclef and AOBTD. Lauren Hill and Bohemian Rhapsody. Pepsi Crap. Vanilla Ice. Id' tell them go and find someone else's song to ruin. I think Roger prob thinks abit more like me than Brian. Abit like me in the sense that he doesnt want to be involved in everything anyone wants to do thats related to Queen. I don't think he is jealous, although bri is apparently richer than him. Though having said that with as much money as they much have, i doubt that would matter... |

D.Blythe 12.05.2004 15:58 |
Jealous of Brian? Maybe, maybe not. We will never know. I doubt it,though. If Roger was so consumed with jealousy and position, would he not have his own website to present his case? Why would he let Brian have the only forum? |
RogerTaylorNet 12.05.2004 16:44 |
IMHO there's no reason for Roger being jealous of Brian. Certainly not for being worth 5 Mill. GBP less than Brian. ;-) The musical is a wonderful masterpiece, but it's Brian's "baby". That might be the reason why he's taking a back seat right now. I wished both of them would record original material again. To my mind he wants that. But then what do I know... ;-) |
Brandon 12.05.2004 16:59 |
Krizzy wrote: That's true although I do not know what "being cool" has to do with the subject.Well, it was just to support my point that Roger has no need to be jealous of Brian. Also, I'm not sure how much they're worth but I've always thought the numbers presented by various sources over the years were too low. I think I remember them valued at or around 60 million GBP? While Sir Paul is around 500 million and Elton John is close behind? Too much of a gap regardless of how many "good investments" the latter have made. |
FriedChicken 12.05.2004 17:29 |
no reason to be jealous at all. And be honest. Would 'I'm in love with my car" be a good title for a rock musical? would We will Rock You be a good song for a car commercial? |
Farlander 12.05.2004 17:56 |
Brian and Roger have both said some mind-bogglingly stupid things not related to music in their days, but they both seem pretty on the ball when it comes to musical things. It just seems that Roger is less willing to put up with crap in order to keep Queen in the public eye. Sometimes I think Brian is just a little TOO nice and little TOO humble. Something he just needs to say, "I appreciate the effort, but you suck." So is Roger jealous of Brian? Possibly, but I think it's more likely his priorities are different. |
Daburcor? 12.05.2004 17:58 |

Are you kidding me? Did you see that house Roger used to own? Jealous?....of??.....I would imagine that Mr. Taylor has had more quality "tail" than any member. Let's see..... Filthy Rich Good Looking Filthy Rich Rock Star Beautiful women for 30+ Years Filthy Rich Wrote a few hit songs Filthy Rich Nothing to be jealous of! |
Oberon 13.05.2004 04:59 |
I wouldn't have thought Roger was jealous at all. Ok, so the musical was named after Brian's song and has been used countless of times and re-recorded etc. But his comments on that (especially the Pepsi fiasco) tend to indicate that he doesn't think it's necessarily a good thing. And although he was involved in the musical, it's obvious that Brian's the main driving force behind it. In my opinion I think Roger's solo material is better overall than Brian's, and that's coming from someone who loves the heavy stuff which Brian does so well. I think that musically and lyrically Roger writes better songs more consistently, at least in solo terms. Both seemed to write much better songs within the Queen unit (competition and influence probably played a part here), but outside of Queen I rate Roger over Brian. The exception to this would be Furia (never heard the McBeth score). Can't see Roger doing something like that, and Brian is very good at that (Flash, Highlander and Furia). He should probably do more soundtrack type stuff (i.e. minimal lyrics. The Call anyone?) |
Pim Derks 13.05.2004 06:23 |
"i.e. minimal lyrics. The Call anyone?" Doctor, oh doctor my world needs attention got sickness and poverty just too much to mention or something :D I'd love an instrumental album by Brian, with stuff like Furia Theme, Last Horizon etc etc. |
Joma 13.05.2004 06:44 |
Oh don't be rediculous! |
FriedChicken 13.05.2004 06:51 |
I think the call has great lyrics, Really makes you think. I prefer Brian weakest lyric (Sweet Lady) over 70% of the Roger songs "We don't make ships and we don't make cars But we look real good hangin' out in bars " *yawn* |

Mmm. Don't think I meant "minimal lyrics" in my post!! Kinda get your point on that snippet from Roger's song, but that's Nation of Haircuts isn't it, which I actually listened to properly and I actually think it's a good song and the lyrics say something. I don't tend to analyse lyrics as a rule to be honest, but that set me off thinking about Roger's stuff and it occured to me that while Queen always said they were political, Roger is to some degree in his solo stuff (Nazis, Dear Mr Murdoch, Haircuts etc). Then you think about Brian's White Man, which I had never bothered to interpret before and then read something on his site about his thoughts on the native Americans and then it all clicked. I might have to revisit the songs and listen closer!!! But I still stand by my point. Love Token, China Belle and Cyborg were always tracks that I loved for the music, but didn't think much of lyrically. As for Sweet Lady, there was an other discussion on here about that I think (or might have been on QMS) where someone pointed out that the song was probably a two way conversation and again, I'd never seen it that way before. So I disagree that Sweet Lady is his worst/one of his worst lyrics |

I think Roger gets a lot less attention than Brian now. Brian is still seen as a god and Rog is basically just "a chubby old man" to most folk... But then, a friend of mine has met Roger at an SAS gig and she says he's really friendly and all that, just a bit less "in your face" than Brian. |
FriedChicken 13.05.2004 10:05 |
Maybe because Rogers drumming sucks so much these days, He really needs more excersice. And don't say he is still a wonderful drummer. Cause he isn't. He's just a good drummer now, nothing more....maybe if he got some more excersise |
Oberon 13.05.2004 10:40 |
Exercise and practice! I imagine he hardly touches a drum kit from day to day. Why would he? If they were recording or playing regularly then he'd have a reason, but he's been doing all his life, so is it surprising that he doesn't practice? That's life I suppose! |
RogerTaylorNet 13.05.2004 11:24 |
Like someone said earlier Brian is still seen as a god Roger is considered to be a chubby old man who's drumming sucks. Seems like Brian is allowed to get older and Roger isn't... He didn't practice in the 80's, he was playing the rythm guitar in his own band! I think this makes it clear that he thinks of himself as a musican and not just a drummer. And then: How much stamina does it take to play the guitar? And as far as songwriting is considered: I have a lot more fun listening to Roger's solo material than Brian's because I think it's more complex. And I don't even want to start a discussion about the singing voices. Clearly I think Roger has not one reason to be jealous of Brian! ;-) |
Kuku 14.05.2004 00:28 |
.. while it is true that they are getting kind of distant lately. But I don't think one is jealous of another. |
QueenSite 14.05.2004 09:16 |
Roger's solo works are better than Brian's and even Freddie's. Brian is certainly the driving force of the musical and of the various Queen related activities (reissues, dvds, boxset etc.) but I don't think Roger is jealous of this. I think he is happy to have more time to rest than his colleague. I just hope he will record another solo album soon, but it's very unlikely...The Queen flag attracts more people |
akindofmagic 14.05.2004 23:19 |
«And don't say he is still a wonderful drummer. Cause he isn't. He's just a good drummer now, nothing more....maybe if he got some more excersise » Why in this world would Roger do excersise to become the fantastic drummer is always was? Cant you see that he is not a drummer anymore? He is a musician,a songwriter and ... a singer. If he need to do a hard drum he gets a second drummer like all vet drummer of big old Bands do. |
jeff payne 1680 15.05.2004 07:15 |
As Roger said at the SAS gig in Alton in 99 "I'm just a fucking drummer" before ripping in to a fab version of rock and roll |
Hitman 16.05.2004 04:39 |
The problem for Roger is that he is a bit lazy..he admits it in Drowse... ;) so Brian works and earn something more than him. Then being a famous guitarist is better than being a famous drummer, everybody knows it :) |
