This is part 2 of 2 pieces of info i found in 2 differant papers on two consecutive days.
This one is entitled 'Are these the greatest gigs acts ever?'
It is the top 50 greatest gigs ever voted for by Q magazine readers and writers. Queen were in it twice (Only Queen and radio head are in it more than once).
Queen came in at 36 with their Knebworth concert on August 9th 1986 and then at number 9 with their Live Aid stint. The top 10 were...
10. Pink Floyd, Earls Court, 4th August 1980
9. Queen, Live Aid,Wembley Stadium, 13th July 1985
8. R.E.M, Trafalgar Square, 29 April 2001
7. The Beatles,Apple HQ rooftop, 30th January 1969
6. Madonna, Earls Court, 7th July 2001
5. Brian Wilson, Royal Festival Hall, 26 Feb 2004
4. Coldplay, V2003, 17th August 2003
3. Oasis, Knebworth, 10th-11th August 1996
2. Nirvana, Reading festival, 30th August 1992
1. Radiohead, Glastonbury, 28th June 1997
Radiohead seem to have been overinflated by the press since the release of Hail to the Theif... I can't remember them being too big in the 90's with OK Computer...
I read that list in the paper too today, and Knebworth 86 was also in there! Can't remember where!
I don't see Dark Angel's performance at the North Star Pub 29/7/81 in the list - what a crap list! Okay, so the band I was in only did one song (in the interval of the house band) but we were shit hot that night!!!
Nirvana are so goddamn overrated and annoy the HELL out of me. What was so great about them anyway? I don't mean to be cynical but enough with the Kurt Cobain love this year. Yes, I know, it's 10 years since he died and we should all mourn but he died rather selfishly by killing himself. I don't know... I'm just plain sick of seeing Nirvana at the top of all these countdown lists and such. >:[
Where the fuck is The Who?
Live at Leeds University February 14. 19-mother fucking-70!
Well..it wasn't actually mother fucking...just put that in there for dramatic climatism..
Yeah, climatism. I made it up.
just cuz a concert is really huge, it doesn't mean that the band was any good. it just means that the audience were lacking any taste, and gobbled up anything some druggies could throw at them.
In addition to Queen, I'm a fan of Coldplay, and I have the DVD of that 2003 show. And while it's good, lemme tell you...it's no Live Aid. I think it's quite interesting that a 20-minute performance by Queen is better than the vast majority of 1.5 hour shows by other bands/artists. Truth is stranger than fiction, I guess.
And where is U2 on this list?
