JJ Jackson, remembered as one of the first faces of MTV, died Wednesday night in Los Angeles of an apparent heart attack, according to friends and former ... link
I'm shocked.
I remember watching MTV, when it had videos, and I always liked him.
He also interviewed Brian Roger and John during the MTV Live Aid coverage.
He was so smooth, and very knowledgeable about music.
RIP
That's sad :( I still remember finding MTV on their first weekend and staying glued to it as much as possible for the next 5 years or so.. ironically, as these original guys began to leave, MTV gradually turned into the shitheap it is today.
Last time I saw Mark Goodman he was hosting the Illinois State Lottery TV show and of course Martha Quinn turns up in all sorts of places. Nina Blackwood was selling 80s music collections on TV a few years back, and as for Alan Hunter.. no clue.
Edit: here's an article on Hunter: link
DeaconFan, I feel the same way. I just happened to watch the very first moment that MTV came on the air. We had just hooked up our first cable box. Dad turned on the tv to see what we would get and it was the old MTV promo with the astronaut and the MTV flag on the moon and I believe it was Alan Hunter who came on and said that MTV would be a new channel and a new era in music. It was and is. The first video was "Video Killed the Radio Star" by Buggles and it was like a revelation. We were transfixed and I still do not know how my sister and I got to watch so much MTV with our parents always around. I also remember that J.J. would always say "double Duran" instead of "Duran Duran".
I also remember that J.J. would always say "double Duran" instead of "Duran Duran".
and J.J. Jackson was always affectionately referred to as Triple J ..RIP
RIP JJ
He was a terrif DJ on WBCN here in Boston before he became a VJ on the new MTV. He was a young man...sorely missed but always remembered.
