...Queen get very little or no recognition in comparison to other bands (e.g. Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Beatles)? If WWRY never came to Australia, the last thing written about Queen in Australia would have been: "Mercury's Dead", and I'm sure there was a reluctance to write that amongst the Aussie media!!!
Any fellow Australians share my disgust?
I'm pissed too..and I don't even remember seeing an article on Freddie dieing..granted I was 5 but that's not the point. I was especially suprised when WWRY came to Perth after it came to Melbourne. I was expecting for WWRY to be in Melbourne for 100 years then the head of Brian May and Roger Taylor (and Freddies' DNA re-constituted into an turtle) decide to send WWRY to the remenants of Perth.
I'll have to go to our newspaper archive up in Perth to see how much coverage Freddstleburger and his death got in W.A. Probably more coverage on the formation of the West Coast Eagles.
Well Dan, you Essendon supporter (I'm only assuming based on the name), they do say it's a hard life and nothing really matters!
I've only managed to find 4 vinyls over here in Perth and an Asian guy who did an awesome sketch of Freddie (which I have hanging on my wall now). I guess what I'm trying to say is, it sucks ass over here too...although they did play in Perth in...75, I think? Anyone confirm that..or did I make it up?
I live in Perth, and i think it is *great* that the musical is coming here. You don't have to watch it.
Freddie's passing was in the newspapers and all over the tv. So was his funeral.
Bo Rhap does consistently well in the "best songs ever" and i seem to hear quite a bit of Queen on the radio. It isn't that much different elsewhere in the world in my opinion. There are a lot of artists, bands that are still around that take up the media airwaves.
Holy crap?! You don't happen to have those videos on your computer...some how..yeah..that made a lot of sense.
I've have to visit Batty Hall (apparently that's what it is called). They have archives of the newspaper. I'll have to check that out..or I could contact the West Australian/Sunday Times and see if they can send out a copy of Freddie's death/his AIDS announcement.
Hey Richard, we should organise something for the WWRY premiere..I think a couple of my friends are going so we should sit around and talk about when I was the 6th member of Queen..then I steal what memorabilia you have.
Over the last couple of days I've heard Bohemian Rhapsody three times, Radio Ga-ga once, You're My Best Friend once, Crazy Little Thing Called Love twice and I want to Break Free (on Nova, none the less!) once.
Awesome! Keep me updated on the VHS-CD status.
My excellent grammar was to blame for the 'that made sense' comment.. I withdraw it like an Eric Ripper apology.
To be honest dan i agree with you. while the musical got the band some media attention, there has been virtually no mention or reviews of the recent dvd releases.Of the 3 dvd's released in the last couple of years, i have seen only 1 review(forGH2)n a local mag or paper.obviously it's possible i may have just missed them but it does seem strange when i see the Herald Sun raving about Duran Duran supporting Robby Williams for 3 weeks in a row.
