After a few years of wanting to get some of their music and putting it off for something else everytime, I see now they were WELL worth the wait. I picked up the album "P.S. A Toad Retrospective" last night, a hits compilation, And I loved all the songs on it. Not JUST the ones I had heard on the radio. So, It appears that I WILL have to get more of their stuff. THEY ROCK! :D So, Anyone else here like them?
I love them :) I'd recommend getting 'Dulcinea' and 'Fear' next. Not a bad song on either IMO.
"Something's Always Wrong" is a fave of mine, and you need 'Dulcinea' for the full-length version. :)
Last I heard they were thinking of getting back together for some shows. Don't know if it ever happened or not. Too lazy to check.
I second Fear as the next album to get. That was their second album, I believe, and their breakthru CD.
Walk on the Ocean and All I Want were a couple big hits off that CD, but I loved Hold Her Down. I actually heard that on the radio several times when it came out, and once you hear the lyrics, you'll understand why that's odd.
That's one of their most misunderstood songs. There are explanations of the true meaning on some websites.
It's about a woman whom the writer saw being attacked.. but not raped as most assume, and it in no way advocates such behavior. It's an angry song about how horrible the act was. I'll try to find a link...
They're good. About as close to alternative music as I get. I would recommend hearing some of their stuff before buying a CD, though. Not sure if they are everyone's taste.
Fear is one of the few CDs that immediately takes me to a particular place in my life. One of those CDs you always associate with a memory.
"I don't think I've heard of them before."
I can almost guarantee you that you have heard one of their songs on the radio. They used to get a ton of airplay.
I've spent most of the evening listening to a couple of live Toad boots, and I'd forgotten how great their songs are. These are the first boots I've heard, and while you can tell they are smaller scale shows than what Queen fans are used to, it's a great performance. Now I have to track down a couple of their older CDs I got packed away somewhere.
Toad is a taper/trader friendly band, and if you get the opportunity to hear some of this stuff, I recommend it.
