I finally got my copy last week in the mail from USA, and I think you guys are a whole bunch of complainers, you lot! I thought the picture quality was very good (except on body language and WWTLF - Ian & Belinda version, the latter by the way which I liked - too bad it doesn't show much of the Queen guys). It's too bad that the David bowie interview wasn't on the disc, but I thought that a lot of the bonus material was excellent. And I thought it was humourous, the Montreux Golden Rose Pop Festival (mimed) performances - they really DO hate miming LOL I would rate this DVD 4.5 out of 5 |

ok. |

4.5 out of 5?? you crazy lad? |
inu-liger 15.12.2003 15:34 |
No, actually, just 4 out of 5, because I forgot about the visual problems with AKOM and HTF (which btw. I know how to correct, but I will need a crack for the MPEG-2 plugin on TMPG Encoder later this week once I am finished moving into my new house today) |
Adam Baboolal 15.12.2003 17:54 |
The only error is with the Hammer to Fall video. The AKOM video will always be played properly, regardless of the tv used, i.e. 16:9 or 4:3. |
Liquid Scream 15.12.2003 18:23 |
Hammer to Fall always had that stretched look, at least on my Classic Queen video and when I have seen it on tv. |
inu-liger 16.12.2003 14:02 |
Well, I think that to correct the HTF video problem, I would have to encode it in a re-sized aspect ration of 2.35:1, which is used on The Matrix movies, the Harry Potter movies, to name a couple of examples. On the other hand, AKOM would have to be cut from that same ratio and be re-encoded and re-sized to the 16:9 aspect ratio (depending on the NTSC or PAL version - I only have the NTSC version naturally since I live in N. America). I would do it, but the problem is that my copy of TMPG Encoder's MPEG-2 plugin has run its 30-day trial a LONG time ago, and I don't know how to reset it. Does anyone know where I can get an MPEG-2 crack for that program? Any help would be appreciated so that I can re-encode the two videos to their proper aspect ratios individually, although I'll still look myself when I have time (still finishing moving into my new house, and just getting settled) |
Guy 16.12.2003 14:41 |
"Does anyone know where I can get an MPEG-2 crack for that program?" Ever heard of.... 1. Buying? 2. Google? |
Adam Baboolal 16.12.2003 17:40 |
HTF is not in 2.35 AS. |
inu-liger 18.12.2003 14:16 |
"HTF is not in 2.35 AS." You're right. I checked and re-sized, and it's actually in 1.85 AS (cs?) |
inu-liger 18.12.2003 14:22 |
But I have a problem! When I try to resize it to 780x344 (which is the correct size for an 1.85:1 AS widescreen video before being re-encoded to 16:9 with the small black bars on top and bottom) from the DVD file (ripped of course), it gets blocky around all the edges and the picture is shite! I'm using TMPG here, and using an MPEG-1 codec with the bitrates used on DVD-Video video files How do I get it to re-size perfectly without getting blocky?! |
Adam Baboolal 18.12.2003 14:58 |
Your answer is that you're using Mpeg-1. It's no good. Mpeg-2 is used on DVDs. |
inu-liger 18.12.2003 16:20 |
Problem solved. (Thanks Adam btw.) I finally found a way to reset the 30-day trial for the MPEG-2 plugin for TMPG. Now tonight I am going to retry this! Btw. Adam, didn't you say something about how if someone could get you the Queen Greatest Flix 2DVD disc set you could use the full frame videos and synch them up to the 4.1/5.1 DTS surround sound mixes from the officially available GVH DVDs and thus make a full screen DVD of Queen's videos with DTS? Cos if that's the case, once I get a job, I'd be willing to help get you a copy of that DVD (GF1&2) so you can do that (and supply Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 encoders as well). But another thing is is that seeing as the GF 2nd disc has the Innuendo videos (the first 4 anyways), there are no surround sound mixes available yet. Would you be doing upmixes yourself, or could I do those upmixes? More questions later - I am tired, but this is getting me really excited! But another question for now: Seeing as opposed to the GVH1 DVD, on the Game DVD-A there are full 5.1 mixes of AOBTD and The Game, would you use those mixes on the videos once they're re-encoded? |
inu-liger 18.12.2003 16:29 |
And actually, I just got an even better idea. Seeing as Rien has a whole crap lot (not literally crap :) of rare Queen videos, maybe he could help out and pitch in unreleased versions of Queen videos and performances as a bonus for this DVD set. Once again, I am giddy with excitement! |
Adam Baboolal 18.12.2003 18:37 |
That was my original idea, because there were a bunch of complainers hounding Queen's 16:9 efforts. So I offered that compr... in fact, that would be their dream 4:3 with surround. But if I handle this project, I do ALL audio because I'm a pro. So, yes, I would be interested. Peace, Adam. |
Biggest Band On The Planet 20.12.2003 10:07 |
I think their is already a full screen GH2 DVD with surround sound ceck out this link link |
Adam Baboolal 20.12.2003 12:06 |
This bootleg lies. It's from Brazil for goodness sake. |
inu-liger 22.12.2003 14:24 |
All right, so it's settled. Assuming that I get a new job within a few weeks, I'll try and get a copy to you a.s.a.p. so you can make a new DVD, and maybe, like I suggested already, have Rien send some rare Queen vids, and then you can get the new DVD done, and send me back the original Flix DVDs :) |
inu-liger 23.12.2003 13:44 |
That Brazillian bootleg probably has an upmixed 5.1 track. No way QP would have let them release THAT |
inu-liger 23.12.2003 13:45 |
And those bootleg DVDs cost $89.99 Canadian dollars to buy at HMV here!!! And that's not without the 7% GST tax added afterwards too! I WOULD have bought the Brazillian 'Wembley' DVD if it wasn't that bloody much too! |
inu-liger 23.12.2003 13:46 |
Oh, and Adam, it doesn't work any differently to resize the video using MPEG-2 either. It's STILL blocky!! |
Lester Burnham 23.12.2003 13:50 |
Is it just my imagination, or do Canadians not say 'bloody' unless they're describing a rather unfortunate accident or trying to be British? |
inu-liger 23.12.2003 13:53 |
Yeah, I just say that when I talk about something frustrating :P No way I'd try to pull off something just to try and be British |
inu-liger 23.12.2003 13:55 |
(EDIT) But then again, my dad's side of the family is a little bit British (cos we're partially Irish and Scottish) 'f course, I'm not trying to be British |
Penis - Vagina 23.12.2003 14:39 |
"That Brazillian bootleg probably has an upmixed 5.1 track. No way QP would have let them release THAT" Indeed.. on both Flix 1 & 2, it's just basically a lot of sound from every channel, no nice effects or anything. And on Flix 2 about halfway through their channels begin to go out of sync, resulting in doubled-up sound which is really horrible. Fortunately they include the original stereo tracks too. And Flix 1 is the North American version which is missing Bicycle Race. Other than that, they did a really good job. LOL Jeffrey |
Adam Baboolal 23.12.2003 19:05 |
"Oh, and Adam, it doesn't work any differently to resize the video using MPEG-2 either. It's STILL blocky!!" You're only as good as your source material. What was the original stuff you used? |
inu-liger 29.12.2003 14:47 |
Never mind. Found an MPEG-2 VFP plug-in for TMPGEnc! (Ironically on a CD I had since last spring 2003!) It works fine now! |
DudleyFufkin 29.12.2003 18:04 |
You mong, I thought you didnt understand irony. |
inu-liger 30.12.2003 16:20 |
You'd be surprised, Fudley-Dufkins. Even though I am legally disabled mentally, I can still find irony in certain situations, I just don't talk about it really, unless I find it humourous or funny. I can also pick up on sarcasm (not necessarily here, btw.), and I am getting better at that. I still don't pick up on subtle sarcasm though, that's my problem most of the time |
inu-liger 30.12.2003 16:21 |
Btw., what does "mong" mean? (just out of curiosity) |
inu-liger 30.12.2003 17:39 |
Oic. Thanx Barry. Not that I took offense, but I'm not going to say anything else either |
MexQueenFM 30.12.2003 17:39 |
lol |
