Hello everybody! I am going to see Elton in Milan on December 16. I've already bought the tickets. In the morning I have to go to the university to accept the mark of the differential calculus exam and also to sit for the chemistry exam! Then I will rush to Milan with a friend-singer. I hope not to find queues or jams. Gates open at 18.00.
I hope he plays Funeral For a Friend, Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters, and maybe The Show Must Go On, as he did in his '92 tour... I will let you know.
Has anybody attended any date of Elton's present tour?
not attended any shows, but I do know to tell you that TSMGO has not been on the set since 1994 I believe. And Mona Lisas isn't on the current list either so you're out of luck ;-)
Check the tour dates for reports
at link you get to see
the current list (it really does not varie at all hardly from date to date). The shows do seem to have
6 rockers in a row in most cases which sounds more than interesting.
I hosted a art show here in the States w/ a local artist, Claude Barnardin in my gallery back in June. He is a HUGE Elton fan. So much so he wrote a book called "Rocket Man" I have seen it in all the major book stores for several years. Back in his younger years he toured all over Europe during one of Elton's tours. Got to meet him several times, showed me the copy of his book autographed by Elton, & many photos w/ him. They have done certain Charity events for AIDS. Elton commissioned him to paint watercolors for him & the charities. He also collects Claude's art work.
Anyway, I just wanted to say he knows that every night just before Elton takes the stage he says a prayer for Freddie. The man is class. Enjoy the show!!!! I also hope you hear him perform The Show Must Go On. Let us all know!
Great news, MercuryArts!
But the portrait on the cover of The Big Picture album is not his, is it?
Thanks for your wishes!
Ok, maybe he won't perform The Show, but at least I hope Mona Lisas Part One (that is a great song). Part Two is crap.
Anyway thank you for the link, pma!
Saw Elton twice... one was really bad experience and the other was one of the best concerts i've seen.
The first time I saw Elton I drove to a shitty town called Trenton in NJ. I almost couldn't find a place to park my car and I was scared that when I came back my car wasn't going to be there. I was charged $70 for a seat that was all the way down in the back. Elton didn't play with a band, but it was just him on the piano. Somehow Elton made the mistake a lot of legendary artists make of choosing mostly songs that are not very well known on the set-list. That made the concert really bad, and there were times I was bored out of my mind.
The next time I saw Elton, not only he made up for those badly spent $70 bucks. I saw him with Billy Joel and just imagine how great that was. I payed $50 and I got to see them from the second level, right next to the stage. Both of them played the best of their catalogue, and both Billy and Elton made all these silly jokes which made the concert more than just an awesome musical experience. The concert lasted for 3 hours and 15 minutes, and I'm guessing they played around 30 songs. Can't get any better than that!!

I'd rather have that over the usual
greatest hits setlist anyday. The boots of his solo tour gigs I've heard have mainly given me the impression that the crowd has been loving it and especially the non-single songs getting played is what makes the day for any hardcore fan out there. Of course for the average "greatest hits/very best of" listener a gig containing classic treats might be 'boring' and 'bad' as you described it.
Their loss...
yeah their loss...i wish i could see Elton again but last time i saw him was with Billy Joel back in Feb but i would love to see Elton do a show with his band of course Elton is my fav along with Queen so i digress lol but i agree with PMA

Well, I hoped for The One, some Lion King tracks, Mona Lisas, Carla Etude...
But I am satisfied anyway, and I can't wait to see him.
I would go even if he played the Smurfs soundtrack, just to see LIVE the person who wrote so many GREAT GREAT songs...
Actually according to that site
the last shows have featured
'Harmony' before the medley of 6 of the rockier tunes. I reckon 'Tiny Dancer' and 'Levon' will be played on some nights (either of them) and no 'Harmony' etc and that's about the only variation... :-/
Can't wait to hear bootlegsss...
The concert I saw yesterday was great, probably the best concert I ever attended. The sound was wonderful and better than any cd played on a hi-fi system! And Elton was great. I especially liked Funeral For A Friend, which was a lovely striking intro. Rocket Man was extended with a great piano impromptu and the delay on Elton's voices...
But my favourite moment of the whole show was the intro to Take Me To The Pilot. It was a wonderful unique piano impromptu, like a sort of classic, then ragtime, then blues, and then again classic sonata... He is a genius, he can make you feel a lot of feelings and emotions with his piano...
As to gear and crew, he played a true miked Yamaha black grandpiano. Davey Johnstone at the guitars, electric mandolin on The Boy In The Red Shoes, and vocals. Bob Birch at the bass and vocals. Guy Babilon at the keyboards. And then two drummers, an old one on drums and a young one on percussions. All the band sang, and some songs had wonderful vocal harmonies, especially the new ones (This Train Don't Stop Here Anymore, The Boy In The Red Shoes, The Wasteland) but also the old ones.
I had a chemistry exam in the morning and I had planned to go there with my car, but just while I was driving to the highway to Milan my car decided to go on strike (probably it's a problem of battery or sparking plugs), so we had to leave the car on the edge of the road and hitchhike to the nearest railway station. We arrived at the venue when there was already a lot of queue, but in the end we managed to get a good place quite near the stage on the lateral ring, that is good if you consider that the parterre in front of the stage was reserved only for vips and Elton's fan club members, while all the ones of the queue could only take place in the lateral rings. So we had some problems and accidents, but in the end we managed to see the Guy live and the night will be unforgettable. Great sound. Great songs. Great impromptu. Great band. Great Elton!!!
