Interesting quote about Queen by John Lydon in this Rolling Stone article. Is he talking about Sheer Heart Attack I wonder? link |
Ori 21.11.2019 12:19 |
There's an interview with Roger claiming they played SHA to Sid Vicious who responded "sounds like The Cortinas" so seems likely. Backing vocals from Lydon though? That would be something to hear. Good link! |

Yeah imagine that, how great would it be a demo turned up? Weirdly I only came across this article after my Wife was telling me how her Never Mind The Bollocks Picture Disc LP was stolen back in the day, she still mourns for it! |

If he did sing backing vocals on a Queen song, my best guess would probably be We Will Rock You. |

(...) Freddie recorded every line separately – sometimes just a word – and then they’d edit them... I thought only "the great pretender' was recorded word for word by Freddie. |

"Freddie recorded every line separately – sometimes just a word – and then they’d edit them" Suitable word required....... BOLLOCKS. |

Love the Sex Pistols and PiL. Not sure about a single line, but I imagine they did do a lot of edits to get the best of the best in the studio while recording. I imagine there were single lines Freddie did over and over to tackle the way he heard it in his head. So fucking time consuming. |

We Will Rock You has been well documented by the band especially by Brian as involving everyone who was available in the studio building to join in with recording the track from the roadies to the tea lady. This wouldn't be unsurprising in a way as it was only Sid Vicious that caused the problems. |

He probably saw Queen had the time and energy to re record things on a multitrack tape (as opposed to him having to get things right in 2 attempts) and in his head was so blown away that he see's it as recording a song word for word. He is still the luckiest person to ever make a living out of the music industry. Devoid of any musical ability whatesoever. Right place, right time, right t-shirt... bit of an attitude. Enjoy your L.A. mansion. |

If you don't like John you can always go listen to Lana Del Rey or Taylor Swift. |

I don’t think it’s far from the truth. Something like death on two legs does sound like its done phrase by phrase. Maximum effort in every breath. |

The lines in DOTL overlap (like KYA) so obviously were sang either line by line or every second line sung |

Sex Pistols, a fake band totally created by a record company to fool dumb punks into thinking they've got something truly anti-establishment to rally behind. And, apparently there were plenty of sufficiently dumb punks, because this punk boyband made it. They could barely play, and all they had to contribute were mindless rage, violence and radical right wing views. And then Holly sneers that if you don't like these idiots, you should hop over to dumb pop-music. Ever heard of The Clash? The Ramones? New York Dolls? Iggy Pop? There's plenty of good punk to be found, just not with the Sex Pistols. They utterly suck, and it's a genuine shame that the asshole John Lydon lives while Joe Strummer is dead. |

" I didn't say there wasn't, so that's a straw man argument. Although personally I think The Clash were a bunch of posers and The Ramones only ever wrote about 5 good songs. As for John, he's a smart guy who sadly in his older years has become a bit of a parody of himself, but that doesn't mean he isn't a punk legend. And as for sneering, when we're talking about punk that's a good attitude to have. |

I'm going to agree with Holly here. The Sex Pistols were an artificial creation just as much as, say, Queen or Bowie were. Different animals sure, but all knew that to survive a certain 'character' had to be created that would appeal to the masses. Created by a record label? Which one? The 2 who dropped them after one single each, or the one that picked up the hollow corpse to release their only album? The difference of course is that it took the Pistols perhaps 18 months from kick off to spectacular implosion. Sadly their reputation was totally ruined by the same people who actually made it all possible. That they couldn't play is a nonsense too. And Rotten's voice while I accept is an acquired taste encapsulates the roar every man should feel at least once in his life. |
dysan 22.11.2019 19:24 |
Fucking hell that's weird. As I typed that BBC4 just mentioned the Sid Vicious / Queen story. |
Negative Creep 22.11.2019 20:47 |
The Pistols were not created by a record company, nor by Malcolm McLaren - what a load of tosh! Never Mind The Bollocks is a classic album and were extremely influential. |
mooghead 22.11.2019 23:22 |
'nor by Malcolm McLaren' Nope. They would have happened without him ;-) (It is a classic album though... the same as Britney Spears or the Spice Girls) One of those ones that people will talk about.... |

"They could barely play"? Are you deaf? Radical right wing views? Huh? Idiots? Have you ever seen / read any interview with somebody else than Sid? The Clash? Brilliant first album, 99% of later stuff sucks. Plus funny you don't mind their left wing views, but you mention "radical right wing views" (whatever it is). The Ramones? The first 2-3 albums are brilliant, and they were amazing live, but most of their music sucks, which make sense since they had 1 good song writer. New York Dolls? They suck. Iggy Pop? Great musician, great performer, not enough good songs and completely insane. The last sentence is just sad. Maybe you should re-think your opinions, I would never say or write write something so awful about anybody |
