Sorry if it's been posted previously, it's just crazy. It gives the glimpse of what a gay man in the USA thought when he saw those music videos back in the 80's... he also mentions they were played on MTV quite a bit.
"Watching them today, they wrench me back to 1985 and dump me back into the shame, paranoia, and terror I felt at the possibility that I was gay, and, because of that possibility, that I would die of AIDS. Every shot of Mercury’s hairy chest, every queer innuendo reminded me that I will die of AIDS if I’m gay. “I Want to Break Free” includes a raunchy homoerotic modern dance sequence, while “Radio Gaga” includes a terrifying scene of wartime destruction. Death and gay desire, all mixed up. Worst-case scenarios. Watching these videos made me queasy and paralyzed with fear."
"Mercury had too much body hair, too many muscles, and too much leather."
"Then Mercury dives into a big pile of grapes surrounded by the naked-looking dancers. Yes, grapes. He’s lying on his stomach going after the grapes with his mouth with his eyes closed, evoking oral sex. As a kid, I remember thinking that this must be what gay sex looks like. Obviously the fruit is a thinly veiled sexual metaphor."
Read the whole thing, it's interesting. link
I can kind of understand some of what he said, but I think he dug too deep, but either way, they were his thoughts.
I mean, the ballet scene in 'I Want To Break Free' ... wowzuhhhh
