For those of you (lucky barsterds!!!) that witnessed this "in my opinion" legendary Queen song live... how was Ogre Battle generally revered amongst the 70s era queen fans? Was it held in the same high regard such as Liar? Was it a song that you looked forward to/missed once it was dropped? or was it just another disposable Queen song that met its fate along with many other Queen songs of the Queen Queen II SHA albums that didn't register a thought when it wasn't played?
Would this song ever been able to be reborn in the 80s along with others that did, such as the 'The Works' tour?
From those Queen fans who watched Queen and this song live, those who were just a little to late to see this song live, Queen fans of the 80s and our generation.... Love to hear your memories and or opinions about this song as a live piece. The life and death of a legendary Queen song OGRE BATTLE
I was thinking about this song today for some reason. I much prefer the BEEB version than the album version. Hate the windy/backwards intro on the album version. Prefer the way he says 'old man told' on the BEEB version too.
i thought i read somewhere they were working on a disco version of ogre battle to rival i was made for loving you by kiss during the game sessions but gave up when deacy laid down the bass line for another one took my lunch. that of course was eventually reworked into another one bites the dust.
There are live versions when the intro goes on too long - seeming to kill the gig dead. But I guess they knew what they were doing by that point.
BBC version for me sounds very limp compared to the studio cut IMO. Love the drama and over-the-top-ness of it. Yes, that intro is annoying sometimes especially when you're riding the volume control.
