Wow. Probably stopped at his door front. Sucks for him: BUT at the same time..... NOT BAD for 20 years of retirement! still getting the attention! If I were to get his autograph I'd be sure it was personalized so there'd BE NO CHANCE OF SELLING it :) He deserves better; But I guess it's making someone else happy |

It's an assumption that this is outside JD's house, on his door step. What it does seem to show is that he appears to be quite approachable and willing to sign autographs which maybe at odds with the common held belief (by some) that he has turned into some kind of raving nutter locked behind his door afraid to come face to face with anyone in the outside world. |
Nitroboy 09.09.2016 10:10 |
Yeah. My impression is that he withdrew from the MUSIC world/scene. Not society altogether, as some people make it out to be. I'm sure he knows that fans still hold him in high esteem, and as such he's still willing to sign stuff and greet people if they recognise him. But other than this he's most likely just living a normal laid-back life :) |

John will all ways have time for his fans,Queen have done forever. He just wants to live an ordinary life,as he NEVER got over the death of Freddie, neither did most of us 'oldies' on here.Great to see that he is still alive,I am sure his family keep him busy! xx |

Then again, I don't know him so no idea, but as far as the evidence tells us, he'd grown disinterested before Freddie's death and had no problem in participating in some projects after that happened anyway. So I don't think that was that strong a factor. He even appeared as 'Queen' (with Roger) in the early 90's and then with Maylor a couple of times after 'Made in Heaven'. So it's simply a matter of personal choice. Some people (like Brian and Roger) are delighted at the thought of being rock stars in their sixties. John clearly wasn't. That's all. No extended psychological analysis necessary, nothing to do with still mourning someone who died nearly a quarter of a century ago, nothing to do with allegedly being a sociopath or a recluse hermit with severe Hikikomori syndrome, just someone who chose to gradually withdraw from the public eye. |
andyb1968 10.09.2016 07:22 |
Yep the passion of being a rock star waned for John years before Freddie died, he is a very shy retiring bloke, hated the limelight, he would have left Queen regardless ! |

This idea that John is somehow still so troubled by Freddie's death that he's chosen to lock himself away because of it, is fictitious. It's romantic, in a very sappy sort of way, but it's not true. He probably did take his death badly, but I don't think more so than his fellow bandmates. People die. Our grandparents die, our parents die, and sometimes our own children die before us too - the latter obviously being the hardest to deal with. If a great friend of yours dies, you'll mourn him for a few months, and miss him maybe for the rest of your life. But you won't take it so badly that you choose to completely stop your career because of it. I don't know John either, but I think he was never the rockstar type. He looks in fact like quite an unlikely guy to be part of one of the biggest musical groups of all time. He did his bit, which lasted around 20 years, give or take, that last few years of which were in semi-retirement, and that was more than enough for him. |

I think he even said in an interview once (written) that he never really thought seriously about being in the band long-term. He thought they would play for a couple of months (or years?), and then split up - because it was only a part-time thing. It only struck him that Queen was a serious thing once their album was released. I'm sure someone else has read this, and will remember it too, or even link it :) |

Didn't look like a recluse to me, especially after his "appearance" at the Daily Mail last year. He seems to be a regular bloke who doesn't mind being greeted by a fan and signing albums. Regarding what Nitroboy said, I also remember him saying something like that. Can't remember if it's from DOOL or Rags to Rhapsody though. That aside. I wonder how are his basses lately? ;) |

I did meet him in London while he was shopping with his wife probably back in 95-96, he was indeed very shy and didnt really want to talk, I simply said hello John and told him I was a massive fan of his work, he thanked me shock my hand and went on his way, I think he was greatful I wasn't asking for autographs or wanting photos, he was possibly a little embaressed to to spotted but seem greatful to have been thanked without fuss. Roger on the other hand was very happy to chat when I met him, a real gent and top bloke. |
Vocal harmony 12.09.2016 08:54 |
I think John a has always been like that. I met him in 1979 I did as for an autograph, but those days are long gone and I wouldn't approach anyone now as that much of a fan. He was very polite signed what I gave him and added Queen Brighton 79 then said sorry is that ok?! He came across as being very unassuming and not a rock star. |
. 12.09.2016 11:34 |
I have met him completely by chance - twice! On both occasions he was very relaxed and polite. Here is a little story I posted in my album section at the Traders den a while back. I bumped into John Deacon in 1976 in Hamleys Toy Shop in Regent St. London. By a sheer coincidence I had purchased a Queen poster earlier in the day and asked him if he would sign it. Poor chap must have wondered how I already had a Queen poster under my arm as I proceeded to unravel it, but he duly signed it. Next thing he was inundated with autograph requests (sorry John!) Years later I bumped in to him again outside the ''Break Free'' video shoot when he asked me if I had a cigarette. I explained that my girlfriend (now my wife) and I had got there late for the filming and the doors were locked. I also reminded him about that Hamleys incident ten years earlier and apologised, but he had no memory of it LOL! Being the nice chap he is he escorted my girlfriend and I inside so we could watch the filming. I even got to stand next to Freddie when he had a break, and got autographs from all of the band. Yeah, how lucky is it to turn up late, get locked out and then have that happen? Hamley's is also bonkers the more I think about it, I'm wandering around and then he just appears in front of me! I was 15 at the time, so not quite as reserved as I am now. It's all fate man. |

This thread makes me all kinds of sad. Clearly these vultures waiting outside his doorstep were just off to make a quick buck, and aren't actually fans of his work. But in the event that they are - if this man is so rarely seen in public and you get 30 seconds with him, and you'd rather have him sign goods instead of actually engaging in some kind of meaningful conversation ... what a fool you are. |

cool.cat 50802 29.09.2016 15:04 |
I saw John Deacon at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn't want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, "Oh, like you're doing now?" I was taken aback, and all I could say was "Huh?" but he kept cutting me off and going "huh? huh? huh?" and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw John trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like "Sir, you need to pay for those first." At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually "to prevent any electrical infetterence," and then turned around and winked at me. I don't even think that's a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly. |

Great to see him still signing autographs, but as The Real Wizzard said, its kind of sad people trying to make a quick buck ( its no news people do this, but still...). I guess they are not even fans. As also mentioned, i would be sure to make it personalized, because when he use his time to sign these things, then we should show him the mutual respect. Anyways, great to see him still doing these things. Great story Kurgan, appreciated :) |
