Well, I finished this song today. This would be an alternative version with guitars but the official solo. You can notice the changes very easily I think. Despite we have the multitracks, it was a really hard task to make it sound like this. Starting with the drums, which were really broken and needed a real clean. I love the bass, the sound is so deep in this recordings. Oh, and now you can hear the hi-hat. In a few days: 'Fat Bottomed Girls' Enjoy! . |

Cheers, Matt. Thank you ;) I'll take a listen this evening. |

Wow, the snare sounds like a snare again! Though it feels a little bit unusual to have the bass drum so strong and the snare so low (treble wise), because it makes the 1 & 3 sound a bit stronger than the 2 & 4. One thing I like about the original mix is its emphasis on the snare hits. Just my two cents. :) |

Great work incorporating the solo into the long lost guitar version. It sounds like a live performance. Thanks for sharing this wonderful work, Matt! |

Bravo Matt, bravo ! keep 'em coming !! thanks a lot ! |

It's a nice version, but I agree about the snare being slightly low on treble. When I did a mix of this, I found that bringing the 'room' drums up a bit brightened the snare nicely. I also seem to remember the 'lost' guitar being slightly more raised in the original mix - there's a nice little twiddle at 1.21 which is barely audible here. Just a further thought, perhaps for a 'bonus' track, how about trying to extend the guitar solo using the alternative solo as well as the original? :) |

Thank you all for your nice words! As always, a pleasure to share this mixes and listen your suggestions. This song is simply spectacular, it's a shame that what maybe should have been the most explosive album in the entire Queen discography sounds so unbalanced and weak. I'll do my best to fix that, and these are the first steps. Good observations, but I wouldn't touch the snare because I thought the same too the first times, but then I understood that it's not that the snare is low in trebles, but the original snare is just pure treble and we are used to that particular sound (at least to me lol). I could play a bit more with the drums room and the snare wire. I'll do four versions: with guitars with the album solo (this one) - with guitars with the discarded solo - without guitars with album solo - without guitars with the discarded solo. I've managed to reduce a bit the difference between both guitar takes in the album solo so it gives the illusion that is one take. That guitar draw at 1:21 is beautiful. I raised up a bit the guitars volume now when the action starts. There are two guitars playing together, I was thinking to put one of them in stereo and the other one centered. I'll check that later to see if it works. Now I let you with FBG. Enjoy! . |

Great, Thanks! |

Maybe you can just raise the snare overall a little bit then? I just feel that the snare is much more sunken into the mix. The backbeat is rather important in this song IMO, it drives it forward. Fat Bottomed Girl sounds awesome, though the famous "big man of me" drum fill could be louder. Just minor suggestions, overall it's amazing as per usual. :) |

Done! I changed a bit DSMN drums. I'm working with 'Jealousy', 'Put Out the Fire' and 'I Want it All' right now, but with slooooooooow progress. Anyway, I like how it's sounding. As soon as I finish one of them I'll start uploading. Cheers! |

I'm really looking forward to see what you can do with Dead On Time And Let Me Entertain You. Two songs that really suffer badly from their bad mixes, especially considering all those gorgeous snare fills gone to waste. |
C_Matt 02.01.2016 19:59 |
True. Both of them will be a real challenge. I managed to almost isolate the complete guitar track of LMEY once, I'll try to do it again to work more comfortably. |

I just have to bump this and ask if there's been any more work done on this? It was very promising. |

Sorry hahahahaIt seems to me the account was deleted... :( Calm down and check my profile. You'll see that, using that reasoning, my account it's also deleted. It's only a QueenZone bug, that's why I'm laughing at it. He's surely buried of work, and has no time to check the forum. Also, if his account was deleted, we wouldn't be able to read his posts. We would just be able to read the answers to it. Another weird QueenZone bug. |

What's your process for separating the elements of the audio files for re-EQing and mixing, Matt? |
