Why "Let Me in" not on The Works album? |
Chief Mouse 16.03.2015 13:42 |
It was unfinished. |

Okay, rephrase the question. Why Let Me in wasn't unfinished? |

I'm surprised everyone thinks it's so fantastic. If it were on the The Works album - it would be as memorable as Keep Passing The Open Windows - which isn't a bad song, but is largely forgettable. Right now, everyone still has it fresh in their minds - so it's a standout track. Also, Let Me In Your Heart's sister track is clearly It's A Hard Life. Having both on the same album is redundant... It's A Hard Life is the better of the two. Hmm... let me reinvent the Works: Side A 1. Radio Ga Ga 2. Tear It Up 3. It's A Hard Life 4. Action This Day (with Roger's 84 kit) Side B 1. Let Me Live (reworked without choir) 2. I Want To Break Free 3. Made In Heaven 4. Hammer To Fall 5. Is This The World We Created This would probably have made for a more interesting album. |

I'm sure Let Me In is poppier and more accessible than Open Windows. |

I always thought The Works was a little too short. So there clearly was room for LMIYHA on it. So it would've been for artistic rather than space reasons. So far we have two theories. * Key disagreement (confirmed). * It's too similar to something. To me it's not It's A Hard Life that it's too similar (in places) to but Hammer To Fall. But not so similar that'd be a problem. I'll throw in a potential third reason: * Balance of writing credits As it stands I rather like BOTH versions. Heretical to like the William Orbit version, I know. :-) |

Side A 1. Radio Ga Ga 2. Hammer To Fall 3. It's A Hard Life 4. Is This the World We Created. ..? Side B 1. I Want To Break Free (single version) 2. Machines (or back to humans) 3. There Must Be More To Life Than This (while we're adding OTHER songs) 4. Not Tear It Up....maybe Man On Fire 5. I Go Crazy But I understand that's making an uneven A-B side Btw penetration guru. ... funniest joke of the year so far |

The bigger picture is quite fascinating, and some above posts are very interesting. The tracklisting of this album is a total mistery. From a purely artistic standpoint, even a b-side like I Go Crazy is far more interesting than Tear It Up (simply awful), Man On The Prowl (guys, you already did that. It Was called CLTCL and it was way better. Plus what's the deal with the abrupt ending which cuts the piano run?), and the lamenting ITTWWC. The Let Me In YOur Heart Again case is also of interest, I didn't know about the key disagreement thing, plus the fact that it wasn't finished at the time. But still, if there's one Queen album where I would gladly change the tracklisting, it's The Works. The released version doesn't work at all as an album. |

The final tracklist for 'The Works' album was probably the result of their personal egos/writing credits/money issue. |
tomchristie22 17.03.2015 06:36 |
I'd care more for Jazz being rearranged than The Works - I believe Jazz could be made into a stellar album as a whole (rather than just a bunch of slightly disparate and perhaps poorly mixed stellar tracks). So while The Works' tracklist is probably worse, Jazz's had more potential to be great. Martin Packer has a good point about similarity to Hammer to Fall. The opening isn't identical, but it's rather similar to the point that Let Me In's evoked Hammer to Fall for me the moment I heard it, despite the difference in key. Then there's the fact that Let Me In's guitar solo, particularly in the first bars, sounds a lot like the first section of Hammer to Fall's guitar solo (that is, the whole part which was cut out for the single/video version). I don't know if that solo on Let Me In was recorded in 1984 or 2014 - the former would make more sense, with Brian possibly having recycled certain aspects of the decrepit Let Me In for Hammer to Fall (unless I'm wrong in assuming that the latter's solo was recorded after Let Me In was abandoned). |

Jazz coulda been great just by throwing out Roger's tracks and Leaving Home. Which is exactly what I've done in my iTunes library. |

For me Let Me In didnt make it cos probably Freddie had final word. About the key of the song i dont think Freddie could not pulled it of. In those Works era their egos make that song unfinished and Fred probably said "oo fuck it"..do what you want. |

Mr. Mouth: rocknrolllover used to be a troll and in the times when Rainbow wasn't released he used to do/say nasty things (according to other QZrs). And BTW, correct your signature. It should say this: "Mr. Mouth always say the truth!!" "Such a clean machine." "I'm a cherub." |

As I said before in all my posts. I dont need rudeness and insults in my life. My life was very hard for me. I have34 years lost my wife and kid. I just dont see myself fighting with no one here. I just want all of us Queen Zoners to get along and try to cope in difficulties and to be good with everyone is the key to long friendships. I plea to all of you to overcime hateism to each other(few ones) and try to understand all point of views even if you dont agrre. You all have opinions like I do and that must be cherished. Like Freddie did..he loved and lived life and didnt need to feel to hate and insult anyone. Love you all and bless you all friends. Stay safe all of you. |

Its not a well known fact but apparently after Queen recorded Let Me In and Brian recorded Let Me Out Roger wrote a song called Let Me Shake It All About for a solo project but it was never released. |
