This is a thing I did yesterday for myself, but maybe somebody else will find it interesting too... Short version of what I've done - speed correction - hiss reduction - restoring of distorted parts - click removal - removing of repeating segments Queen Super Bowl, Sun City, Bophuthatswana, South Africa October 19, 1984 This wonderful quality recording has been shared by Anthony (City-in-the-sun) on Queenzone.com in 2 mp3 files, the first one (side A) in 2009 and the second one (side B) in 2015 - a huge thanks for this! However these mp3 files had several problems - the first part played too slow, had a notable amount of background hiss. The second part played too fast, also has a notable amount of background hiss, and has several digital errors - some small gaps (skips) and also some repeating segments, mainly in Hammer To Fall, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Bohemian Rhapsody and most notably Radio Ga Ga (I'm pretty sure everybody noticed "through teeteeteeteenage"). The first part already speed--corrected by Ale Solan and shared in 2009. According to his notes, he took the original mp3 file, corrected the speed in GoldWave, split the tracks and encoded them to FLAC level 8 using Trader's Little Helper. I listened to his version and I liked its speed, but he didn't touch the hiss. I hate hiss. So I took his flac files, made a one huge wav file of them, removed some of the hiss (not all - I am always trying to not deform the sound too much) in Cool Edit Pro and created new wav files from it. The new wav files were encoded in Trader's Little Helper to FLAC level 8. The second side/file was a bigger challange. I had to first correct the speed, then I removed a part of the hiss, everything again in Cool Edit Pro. Last songs are distorted because the tape was probably transferred too loud, thankfully CEP has a nice feature called "restored clipped audio", I really like the results. Then the whole file was split into several files (one file for each song) and in every single track I removed all pops and clicks I was able to find. In various songs, mainly in Hammer To Fall, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Bohemian Rhapsody and Radio Ga Ga I removed all repeated segments. The final wav files were loaded into Trader's Little Helper and encoded to FLAC level 8. So I'm warning you - if you don't like hiss reduction, this is probably not for you. Also, this share is in FLAC, but remember it's mp3-sourced. I have added a little bonus - Marknow shared some time ago an interview from Irish radio from 1986 about Sun City, I have again reduced the hiss and corrected the speed, this interview is added as a bonus to disc 2. Tracklist CD 1 01. Machines (or 'Back To Humans') [tape intro] 02. Tear It Up 03. Tie Your Mother Down 04. Under Pressure 05. Somebody To Love 06. The March of The Black Queen (improvisation) 07. Open the zip file using Windows 8 (probably also 7), WinZip, WinRar, TotalCommander, 7zip - whatever software you have for extracting zip files (if you don't have any download one for free). Torrents - I'm not doing torrents for many reasons but if anybody wants to torrent this I have no objections |

Thanks so much Peter, Anthony & Wendy, Alex and anyone who has helped bringing this concert to us^^ I have a question: in the Sun City interview, Brian mentioned a song that he'd written but Freddie absolutely hated it. It's called st like "Pride". I can't find it in any album. Do you have any idea which song he was talking about? |

Oh I usually download from these sites with download managers (e.g. Free Rapid Downloader). But on 1fichier you need to scroll down, the download button is at the bottom of the page. I don't like mega because - I have to register to upload anything - I have just 50GB of space, which means I have to delete the stuff I uploaded really soon - in the afternoon I get very slow uploads (about 20kbps, 1fichier allows me to upload with ~ 700kBps) I'll try to upload it to mega too, but I'll have to delete the links really soon (I'm using mega for other things) |

OK I have sun_city.z01 and sun_city.zip. How do I unpack them? If I double click on the .zip file I see all the filenames in CD1 and CD2 but trying to copy them out all the CD1 files give an error. I'm using Vista which my laptop came with. I've tried a command line unzip.exe and unrar.exe that I have and neither of them does any better. What format is this please and what software is capable of unpacking it? (This is why I prefer torrents, they just work.) |

And actually, it's the last version of Windows where "Classic" desktop style actually does what it says on the tin, so I quite like it. Windows 7 at work drives me nuts, I hate the new style Start menu. What people don't realise is Vista and Win7 are basically the same operating system. Why people hate Vista and love Windows 7 is a mystery to me, they're essentially the same. Microsoft just put a few tweaks onto Vista, called it Windows 7 and relaunched it and this time people liked it. Very strange. |

Hmm, the transfer of disc 1 is rather better. A lot of disc 2 has mains hum on it, which is a shame. And the audio fidelity of disc 2 isn't as good as disc 1 either. I'm grateful for what we have, but I really hope the plan to get the tapes to Brian's Wig eventually happens. He did a great job on transferring my tapes and I'm sure he can do quite a lot better than this. |

I always thought Windows Vista was released after Windows XP ... but Ale has edumacated me. Not everyone can spend lavishly on a new computer and a new operating system - Not everyone is rich My younger son's old computer was running XP until a few weeks ago until my older son installed Windows 10 for free (using a Windows 10 developer pack). Where I work, I was using Windows XP until a year or so ago when my work laptop went kaput. I am now on Windows 7 on a new work laptop. Where I work, they skip operating system upgrades (skipped Vista and Windows 8). I agree with this skipping policy, as updating every time a new operating system comes out is a waste of money. That said, I will likely update my home computer from Windows 7 to 10 for free soon (after it is released and after a service pack is issued). |

Panchgani wrote: I hoped that you were kidding, but you actually are a pirating douchebag. How many official Queen products have you actually purchased? The piracy in Argentina and South America is common, due to the high prices of the software and the taxes of the imported products in comparison to our salary, or in comparison to the common sense. Buying an operative system is like buying a new video module in Argentina (the NVIDIA or AMD ones), excepting if you are kinda' rich or you give a shit about money. And even the rich buy computers with a pirate software, as people in Spain. |

What a load of shite - never mind the fact that you chose to reference a 12 year old article. The average artist on a major label makes less than 3 cents on every dollar of revenue. The business takes in the rest. The statement is a red herring, as the overwhelming majority of artists today are not interested in pursuing major label deals solely for the reason that they don't want to see someone else making the money from their music. There is no shortage of internet radio stations, festivals and other live music venues for artists to create a fanbase. You do not need a "commercial hit" to do well in the music industry today. There are literally millions of bands out there who are making a living, compared to a few hundred artists on the radio. The music business is struggling, but those who create music are doing just fine. Video games have eclipsed the music business in revenues. Why? Because they have figured out how to create games that can ONLY be consumed by purchasing them online. The music business had their chance to create this kind of model about 15 years ago, but the dinosaurs at the record labels resisted the shift to digital. And now they're paying the price. Millions of people download music without the slightest sense of guilt. And they support the ARTISTS by going to the show and buying the t-shirt. As for software companies, and countless other business ventures - one of the best ways to make money today is to do a crowd funding campaign BEFORE you release the product. Video games have made hundreds of millions of dollars with this method. In fact, the biggest crowd funding campaign ever (with second place nowhere in sight) was a video game. They have created the example everyone else should be following - evolve your business model with the times and you will do just fine. |

Some of my friends work for Frontier on Elite Dangerous, and the crowd funding model is working very well for them and their company. Profits forecast for this year was increased recently. | ||

"Right on Commander!" every 256 kills :) Every subsequent version of Elite was rubbish. Now I'm in my mid forties I just know that this new version (which looks pretty damn good to me), will be too modern. ie, too complicated and way too fast paced for me to keep up and I'll be dead within minutes. Probably a good thing anyway as I don't have time to waste on computer games anymore :( |

Well I guess I will be flying to Mexico to sneak into a concert and buy counterfeit merchandise just to make sure the musicians are cheated out receiving any revenue for the music. :) |
