Thanks to Sikke for the excellent source. You can view it here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7dzhGdxgJ0 I reduced a great amount of small dust spots and scratches and run some general 'anti-compression' scripts (like I usually do for compressed videos). I didn't get rid of the occasional big scratches (like fat lines over the screen) because it would take too much time to manually correct them all, it would be frame by frame painting work. I haven't got as much time unfortunately. I tried to do something similar, but your work is better ;-) Thanks, anyway, Sikke wrote me a PM and said me that he will upload a UHD transfer of his reel. Thanks again |
Nitroboy 13.02.2015 14:36 |
Amazing, and thanks to Sikke for sharing it! If I remember correctly, the video was shot on regular tape right? Either way, storing it on 16mm would make sense no matter what. |
Chief Mouse 13.02.2015 14:48 |
^ I'd say it's definitely film. No way a tape looks like this. |
peckery 13.02.2015 16:44 |
You're a genius, Chief ! This is better than the promo. Many thanks. Love the close-ups on Brian's genius playing ! >>Queen were my fave band in 76 and 77. Seeing Bo Rap on Top Of The Pops got me into pop/rock music (I was so impressed). I taped the Ham Odeon 75 gig on BBC radio (may have been the repeat in 76) and played a lot - still my fave gig by Queen>>> |

Great share! |

You are a genius chief! I wish you could work with QP in the restoration of some videos like "Another one bites the dust" for example. Thanks a lot for sharing this video in such quality. It really is amazing what you do to these videos. |
GinjaNinja 13.02.2015 18:49 |
This is wonderful! Definitely shot on film originally :) |

Would you consider 'cleaning up' the damaged frames by using the corresponding pixels from adjacent frames? Or would that stray too much into revisionism for you? |
musicland munich 13.02.2015 23:35 |
Danke ! And again a very good and usefull upgrade. Thanks to both of you. |

Bob, Do you think your 8mm master of Montreal '77 would benefit from restoration by Chief Mouse? -Fred's bell end |

Hello people While we wait for a better copy, and the excellent work of Chief I made a video remastering from video's Chief, I'm not a professional, but I share what I worked, I hope you like it. Chief Mouse 18.02.2015 16:30 |
^ thanks! Looks good from screenshots. Maybe the colours are bit too orange in the 2nd comparison. Viewing it from phone though - might look different on PC. |
Barry Durex 18.02.2015 16:31 |
We have another genius in the camp. Thanks for sharing your work, but why the conversion to NTSC? |
Chief Mouse 18.02.2015 16:43 |
Can't watch it at the moment. Will do tomorrow. Did you do this by taking a neighbour frame and masking the defect or manual painting work in Photoshop? I had an idea of morphing the before and after frames (around the damaged one) thus recreating the damaged frame and masking out the defect from the damaged one, replacing the defect part with a mask from the morphed result. This only works if the scene doesn't start with a damaged frame though. |
Carlos Rivera 18.02.2015 16:55 |
Yes it's Photoshop frame to frame, you know it's very hard to do, taking small parts from here and there. And masking sometimes. Colours...mm I took the Official dvd reference, and maybe it's little yellow. And I rendered it in ntsc. beacause I'm from South America. If you want it, I can change it. Regards |
BETA215 18.02.2015 17:06 |
^ Which DVD? Greatest Flix I & II DVD or Greatest Video Hits? Because the second is pure bullshit (puta mierda). The first one is almost a straight copy of the masters, when the last has some "color correction" (mierda). |
Chief Mouse 18.02.2015 17:08 |
Thanks for investing time into this. I didn't think it was worth it since it's a youtube rip anyway but it's great that you did it. I'm always struggling with spare time :P Painting job like that would have taken me ages. |

Great work, Carlos Rivera. |
alberbal12 19.02.2015 12:29 |
Amazing work, Carlos Rivera. The only 2 mistakes i see are: the sound is "digitalished" (distorted) compared to Chief Mouse work. Also i don't like the orange tone you have added to the image, it seems unreal, i prefer original. Apartly from that, the image treatment is stunning, congratulations! |
Carlos Rivera 19.02.2015 14:01 |
Yes Thank you for your advice, Yes, it is a little orange, I did an upgrade if they want to replace it. This is a more realistic color. https://www.dropbox.com/s/11qjfkqaylg8n73/Don%27t%20Stop%20Me%20Now%20-%2016%20mm%20transfer%20%28processed%29%20REMASTER%20updated.mpg?dl=0 The audio is from remaster 2011. alberbal12 wrote: Amazing work, Carlos Rivera. The only 2 mistakes i see are: the sound is "digitalished" (distorted) compared to Chief Mouse work. That is because the audio was shrinked to run faster (in order to be in sync). I also did this and realised it sounded weird hence I just left the original audio. Also, Carlos, I assume you edited in Sony Vegas. You probably didn't go to video Properties to Disable Resample? I can see that familiar small motion blur that Vegas resampling creates :-) All videos are set to "Smart Resample" by default in Vegas and it makes the videos look slightly motion blurry. This is just for your information. Anyway, thanks for the effort! It can also be due to conversion to 29.970 FPS. What settings did you set for the encoding? |
Barry Durex 20.02.2015 07:25 |
Thanks again Carlos. So this update has the audio from the original file now? Also, still not sure why it's NTSC? |
Chief Mouse 20.02.2015 08:12 |
As far as I'm aware the new file only has a bit changed colours. Audio didn't sound like the original to me. |
BETA215 21.02.2015 23:38 |
Carlos, have you changed the speed of the video? Have you tried to correct it? 'Cause when I mux (merge) the original audio (I mean the original 16mm YouTube audio) to the 2nd version of your corrected video it starts out of time, and even if I delay the audio 800ms it stills go out of sync. I don't understand. |
