Any pics or anything about John last years. From normal point of view is John Deacon good guy? He might at least say hello to us(fans) |

Not much apart from the sextape in January, but it's blocked on most sites now though. :( |

I was so very lucky to bump into him in October of this year!! I didn't gush or try to appear startled.....not easy!!! I asked him how he was doing and how much I appreciated is work. He seemed very genuine and we even had a smoke together whilst we chatted (read-not friends but talking small talk) Sadly I didn't bombard him with 'why not's or wherefores'! He is happy and healthy (sic smoking) All in all I sensed a man who was content and with no regrets with his life-choices? This was quite a massive moment in my life BUT.....I wanted to play down my euphoria. I think it may have worked? I spent about 5 mins talking shit about my life and just plain 'waffle' but I did sense that he appreciated it? (Maybe I'm deluded???) To me, he came across as just an ok guy. Sure he's aged but he did have this natural 'aire' to him. Christ almighty....I'm greying and older too! I thanked him very much and he wished me well!!!! Lifetime memory. You bet!!!!! |

It was Richard! Totally unfounded and just one of those 'fuck!!!!' moments. It never entered my mind to crack out a camera or become obtrusive. Just wish I had a friend who knew Wayne Sleep?? ;-) |
The King Of Rhye 17.12.2014 17:23 |
Now that is pretty damn cool!!!! I'd be afraid that if something like that ever happened to me I'd be like Chris Farley in that old Saturday Night Live bit...... "Remember when you played that bassline in such-and-such? That was awesome!" |
ludwigs 17.12.2014 17:27 |
Trust me.....inside I was a complete fuck-wit!!! Out side I was.....a quivering Fuck-wit. I only took solace that I played it quite cool and nonchalant. ( I hoped) I'm hoping that it was the better way to confront him.....or even any other celeb? |
tomchristie22 17.12.2014 19:55 |
Wow, nice. I didn't expect anyone would actually be able to say yes to the question. I'd say you handled it the right way - made a good impression and had meaningful interaction rather than just trying to get information out of him. |

I got to meet them what was basically two days in a row, first day being at a convention, and was fortuitously lucky to meet them again when they arrived for sound check thanks to arriving at Irving Plaza pretty early. Either I didn't think to ask to take a photo with them, or I may have been too shy to ask, can't quite remember now, but I thanked them for the autographs the day before and what not, they were very nice. Just like your experience, it was very quick small talk. I also met one member from the local opening acts for that same show, Echostream without knowing who he was (or the band for that matter at the time), but in hindsight that was fairly cool too :) I think he might have been the guitarist? Either way we definitely talked more than I did with P.A. Good times :) |

For real? Did you ask him if he received my multitudinous messages on Queenzone about his basses? (*give me one if you're not using em) ;-) Ah. Gotta love John Deacon and his work. That would be great to meet him. |

He was very cool and very appreciative. The whole meeting lasted about 2 mins... Had the same opportunity to speak with Roger about 3 years later, Now that WAS COOL.... what a rock star |

I figured he probably doesn't want recent photos of himself going up on the net what with being so private (going by his face in that last pic, he doesn't look too happy about being photographed). In saying that, I saw it posted on a Queen page on Facebook, where hundreds had liked the pic already. So it probably won't make much odds now if it's on here anyway. |

John doesn't look that old in this picture, I mean, he doesn't look older than he should. I think he looks good, healthy, middle aged - yes, but, why not? It's nice to see him actually. Without turning this into a Lambert hating thread, part of me wishes he had found it in himself to stay in Queen and keep the band underpinned with his legendary bass lines. I mean, I think Queen plus Adam Lambert sound very good, but there is a certain amount of class lacking in the mix without John. In fact if they were going to make another album, they'd really need John to add the real pop sensibility that was inherent in the old Queen sound. |
The King Of Rhye 02.01.2015 14:59 |
Totally agree! That was one of the things I found lacking about The Cosmos Rocks - an actual bass player, let alone one as good as John! They could have at least had Danny Miranda or someone..... |
miraclesteinway 02.01.2015 16:53 |
In the Cosmos Rocks I felt they were over compensating with a dominant drum sound, and over-Queened guitars to compensate, like saying 'This is a Queen album, honest!' It's not that it was a bad album, but it sort of sounded like a Roger/Brian solo album combined into one, with a guest singer. Funny that..... Brian May's solo projects always sounded a bit more like Queen than Queen did, although Roger's didn't so much. |

Brian May's solo projects always sounded a bit more like Queen than Queen did, although Roger's didn't so much.No two peopLe hear things the same way but TCR sounded like a mix that was missing at least a fourth element. I want to say a third element because the vocals were pretty uninspired. The lyrics were almost trash on the actual GOOD songs (musically SURFS UP SCHOOLS OUT is the best on the album, but with the current lyrics it's trash, second is TIME TO SHINE. .. those lyrics were written by Ralph Wiggum after listening to HOLY DIVER (*the SONG not the album) goddawful Where were we? Oh yes. An actual bass player would have balanced the ELEMENTS MISSING IN THE MIX like anybody else. (Unless he'd merely been paid and told to stfu whenever a thoughtful concern occurred) the bass is lacking Moreso than on metallica's album AND JUSTICE FOR ALL. This time an entire VOICE is missing. I dare you to listen to TIME TO SHINE and imagine a bass line in the chorus. Go listen to VOODOO and imagine what a rhythmically ACUTE bass player could have added to rhythm and attack. The album was rushed as hell and deserving of its MOR rock space in a WAL-MART Midwestern shop. Still. ... I regret seeing Q+ PR... Adam Lambert was more than underwhelming. His Rock bits are shameful. He doesn't deserve the space and his wearing a crown is like sacrilege. Surprised they let him do that. From a marketing perspective though. ... (dot dot dot) Children to put through college! Those last editions of compilations didn't sell so well either! Lifestyle to maintain. NEVER going to release that BOXED set. .. etc etc. Etc. Anyways, since I'm done rambling. I LOVE John Deacon. Jimminy jillickers. He's the best |

7thStranger wrote: The other part of me is disturbed by people ignoring his requests for anonymity and privacy. But has he actually made a formal request like this? miraclesteinway 04.01.2015 15:02 |
Yeah, he hasn't actually said he wants privacy - in fact he wasn't ever really stalked by the press like the others were, probably because he was married and didn't get up to much, apart from that indiscretion 20 years ago in Stringfellows or wherever it was - he didn't say he wanted privacy, he just kind of disappeared! |
7thStranger 04.01.2015 16:13 |
I think it's easy to read between the lines. He was in an amazing and beloved, globally-recognized rock band and then intentionally hid himself away. I don't think it's takes a genius to figure out he wants his privacy. I think that he views Queen the same way one might view college or a first job. You look back fondly, but you don't want to relive it or try to go back. That's just my opinion. Regardless, taking pictures on the street and of him in his car... I don't like that. I think people who work as a Paparazzo are morally disturbed. But like I said... another part of me is relieved to see Deacon looking healthy and normal. |
miraclesteinway 05.01.2015 04:07 |
You are of course right about the Paparazzi, but it is a risk of being part of a globally recognised band, or a film star, or whatever. Of course, John Deacon is more of a speciality celebrity these days, recognised by a few (well, a sizeable number) fans, and not even by many 'casual' Queen fans. In order to spot John Deacon out, you'd have to be deliberately looking for him (as a paparazzo I mean - which rhymes with cazzo, strangely enough.....), knowing who you were looking for and where to look. In fact you'd pretty much have to be stalking. I can't imagine a picture of John Deacon being worth all that much to someone like the Sun or a gossip magazine, even Smash Hits. He's more Classic Rock than Smash Hits, and Classic Rock don't tend to, as far as I know, buy Paparazzi shots. His kids probably all have Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc, so it really can't be that difficult to tweet one of them 'hey, how's your dad, we love Queen, thanks for the music' or something, and possibly get a nice response (or no response, fine too). No, in order to get these pictures, it must have been someone with an agenda trying to get a story of some sorts. Or at least, construct a story of some sorts. |
